“beautiful, reasonable price, and a challange”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

This is a beautiful public course that can be played at a reasonable price. It is in the hills so greens are sloped and difficult to read. There are some dramatic changes in elevations so you need to know where to hit the ball. A middle of the fairway drive can leave you rolling into the trees. There were three of us playing and we were joined by a guy who plays the course a lot. He was helpful to say the least. I would play there again.

“Wedding in the park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

A beautiful venue in the park called the Brazilian room served as a wedding site. The ceremony was outdoors and the reception inside. It was wonderful.

“Tilden Park offers a great break from 'city' life...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

As a child, I can recall riding the steam train, playing around the lake, and the carousel. I have brought my children, and now I have brought their children to this marvelous location away from the hurried activities of the city life in the Bay Area. It represents a great place to visit, take time to enjoy nature, and to have some special time. On a clear day, the drive up from behind the Claremont Hotel offers a tremendous view of the Bay- the Bay Bridge, San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, Berkeley Pier.. SUGGESTION: bring sweatshirts, sweaters, or jackets, as it can be much cooler on the train ride, in the park, or on the carousel, and carry water, other beverages, and snacks. Kids get 'hungry' and thirsty in the fresh air... Also, carry some cash for the train ride and the carousel.

“Gorgeous Drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

The drive to the park was as beautiful as the park. We took the route behind CAL, behind The Claremont and we were stunned by the beauty of the drive.

“For carousel lovers!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

The wonderful carousel at Tilden has a century-old history, from being a traveling merry-go-round that moved from town to town, to the 'permanent' carousel that originally sat at Silver Springs section of Griffith Park in Los Angeles, to being the 'permanent' carousel in San Diego,

Sold by the original family who had it built, the carousel was later bought back when the family finally decided to make the merry-go-round 'settle down' in the hills of Berkeley.

Originally a three- lane carousel, this wonderful machine had a fourth lane added between one of its several moves. This lovely mostly-original merry-go-round has 53 animals (horses, a boar, a tiger, a lion, a chicken and a rooster, a pelican, and a gryphonish sea horse, as well as a spinning cup, a rocking boat and two chariots with benches and three child-size horses to keep the little ones from fear-induced panic attacks.

When we were last there, one tiny blonde fairie-girl was in tears at being placed atop what must have seemed to her a monster horse - the music was loud and the bright colors and blazing lights had knocked her right out of her comfort zone. But, like many children first encountering a carousel, by the time the ride was 1/3 over, she was smiling and looking about in wonder, finally able to enjoy herself.

The carousel has a nice sunny lawn around half its space with the parking lot on the other half, and families often come there to picnic.

Tilden also has other attractions, including great hiking trails, a child-scale steam train, Lake Anza, botanic gardens, gorgeous vistas, and wonderful picnic areas.
