This is the kite-flying Mecca for the East Bay, which tells you something about the weather conditions: usually windy. But gorgeous views of San Francisco, Marin, and the Golden Gate when the fog is burned off. The Marina pier is a nice walk way out onto the Bay. It is not prettified or touristy; you will meet the locals fishing along the sides, and the surface is uneven. Not a boardwalk-type atmosphere. Nearby Cesar Chavez park has an off-leash dog area and a wonderful circular route (about 1.5 miles) that makes a great bayside walk. Restaurants nearby (for example, Skates) are not my favorites, but some people enjoy them, and they do have great views. Excellent place to visit for a weekend outing.
