Well, I never thought I would return to my old stomping grounds, Berkeley. Here I am after 38 years (when I worked for the Oakland Tribune) wandering up and down 4th street. Delighted to find it has been completely renovated into an upscale shopping neighborhood.
We started with lunch at “Zut” where you can have Mediterranean food, fun food and salads or, like Cliff had, a hamburger with the best fries ever.
Stopped at Peet’s, at the hub of the neighborhood. People watched. Went to browse book stores. Wanted too many books, bought none.
May go back for the book about “Berkeley at the turn of the century.”
