“Beautiful oasis high above the city!”

Acres of beautiful gardens-all labeled with amazing views of San Francisco in the distance-lots of birds-and in the winter lots of newts in the Japanese Garden pond!

“A local treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

This relatively compact garden in the hills above the university is a delight. Trails lead through areas including California natives, a redwood forest, and a collection of Mediterranean natives. Walking these trails is a treat, especially for northern California gardeners. A glass house maintains tropical plants in a controlled environment. In a growing shed, one can observe carnivorous plants. In a meeting house, classes and sick plant clinics are held. Public events at the garden include a summer series of music in the redwoods, as well as seasonal plant sales. A shop sells plants and books. When possible, a visitor will decide to follow up more than once.

“Tropicals to high desert plants of all types.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

Easy to get around and lots of well informed docents too. We saw some plants that only flower every 25-50 years. They had some amazing plants
from the rain forests as well as rare plants from western Africa. The setting
is very casual and feels like you are truly in some ones private garden.
A great way to pass an afternoon even if you just want to take a pleasant
walk. Enjoy!
