I am writing about the stretch of Telegraph that abuts the University of California Berkeley. At one end is "People's Park", the abode of drifters and drug dealers. The street is littered with panhandlers and the mentally deranged who regularly accost passers-by. At night it can become dangerous as gangs from south Berkeley and Oakland come to rob and assault the unwary. A walk down Telegraph will show empty stores and abandoned lots. Yet I give it two stars because of such institutions as Moe's bookstore and I dream of the time when the City of Berkeley finally decides to restore this entryway to the University to a vibrant and interesting avenue.
