Owner description: Almost as if we haven't lost a moment of time... Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley is still so reminiscent of the 60's that you will feel as if you have traveled back in time when you visit Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. The shops and eateries are a mix of quintessential hippie-dom mixed with the current U.C. Berkeley modern day student. Both seem to blend together in a medley that makes shopping and eating here almost a cultural or historical trek as well as a great shopping one.

“a nightmare!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Yes..it had it's moment! Unfortunately it is a cesspool of humanity, ex-hippies that think that tatoo parlors and drug paraphernalia stores are "cool". It is disgusting, dirty and full of aggressive homeless. Many empty stores! My family ran out of there as quickly as possible. I hear that it is a group of "progressives" that keep it this way including the local city council rep...whatever, just stay away and go instead to 4th St or to Emeryville!

“Great place to see a bit of the 60's and 70's - great street vendors”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

Telegraph Avenue has an unbelieveable and diverse culture. If music is your thing, Amoeba or Rasputin Records, food galore, excellent Ice Cream, and a wide variety of shops.

There are street vendors up and down Telegraph with a wide selection of merchandise. We always allow atleast a half a day to take it all in. Unfortunately, some of our favorite stores have closed, but new ones have opened in theiir place.

No trip to the area is complete without a cup of specialty coffee from Peet's Coffee.

“college town experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

A great variety of books, music, and cheap food. Lively atmosphere, with a diverse mix of people, including quite a few young people and the occasional old hippy. A nostalgic place for Cal grads.

“Telegraph Avenue”

Nothing special. Lots of shops & restaurants, however. Too many to be worth a trip there. Parking along Telegraph Avenue not convenient.

“A trip.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

Like time traveling back to a slightly updated version of the 1960's. Crowded, can I say unique to wrap it up. If you have never been, it's a must, then you decide if you want to go back. Great for older teenagers, early twenty something.
