“FABULOUS: Amazing hosts, amazing food, amazing location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2009

My husband and I spent two nights here for Memorial Weekend. It was fabulous. The hosts are just as friendly as can be and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The room was lovely. The breakfasts were spectacular. The service was amazing. Walking distance to the center of Ben Lomond. I would recommend it to anyone.

We stayed at Fairview Manor 6 or 7 times over the 3 years before we moved to Ben Lomond in April 2008. From the first visit we found it to be a wonderful place to stay. The Inn is comfortable and well maintained, and is surrounded by lovely gardens. Gael and Jack are wonderful hosts whether providing wine and cheese in the afternoon, sharing their considerable knowledge of the area's restaurants and attractions, or serving Jack's phenomenal breakfasts. Gael was always attentive to our dietary restrictions and always helpful and accommodating about our arrival/departure times or other issues. Altogether a lovely inn run by friendly, charming inn keepers.

I stayed here in August and had a wonderful time. Both Jack and Gael were perfect hosts. The breakfast was outstanding.
The room was clean and comfortable.
I would stay here again and I would also recommend this B & B to friends and family.
Don't be discouraged by one bad review, this place has charm and is worth a visit. Sept and OCt are the best months to visit the area!

My husband and I really liked the location of this B & B, the breakfast was amazing, and the hosts were outstanding. The only reason for 4 stars is because I have asthma and had to leave there early. They have rugs throughout the house mixed with the wood settings created an environment that was difficult for my asthma. The host were wonderful and refunded our money for the night we couldn't stay. They really go out of their way for you. Please note if you have breathing concerns, you may have difficulty there. Oh, the porch out back is outstanding! Close to the Red Woods!

  • Liked — The back porch and Hosts!
  • Disliked — The rugs and woods didn't mix to well.

This little B&B is in a charming setting, close to town with the most charming and helpful hosts I have ever found. Gael was incredibly helpful and went as far as to put a glass of milk in the guest frig every night for me. The breakfasts are what B&Bs are about, and this one does NOT disappoint!! We had Eggs Benedict one morning, an egg scramble with Swedish apple pancake the next. All with good coffee and fresh fruit.

We stayed in the Sunflower Room, which has a great bed and plenty of room. The house needs some TLC - plumbing is old and drippy. But Gael and Jack are working on it.

Please stay here and keep this couple of great innkeepers going!
Oh, and the Tyrolean Restaurant around the corner had a good selection of beer on tap and authentic German food. Enjoy!

  • Liked — Great hosts.
  • Disliked — Drippy faucets.

We stayed here as our night after our traditional Ben Lomond Scottish Games the first week of October. We will definitely come here again!

Our hosts were quite congenial - we picked up a lot of tips about our hopefully-planned trip to Ireland next year, and yes, Gael, I'll probably bug you about tips!

The accommodations were fine...some might find them small, but for us they were perfect.....loved the deck and the surrounding woodsy areas, and especially the basketball court in the back :) Breakfast was superb (please let them know of your dietary requirements and they are more than happy to ablige), and we enjoyed the other guests without it being any "forced social" event as you so often find in B&Bs. The best will just let you be, to get what you get from it.

The Santa Cruz Mountains are always a favorite place for us to visit, since I spent a bit of my late-teens there, and since we frequent the Scottish Games in October, I can say with much assurance that we will return here!

Once again we stayed at this amazing Inn - we just had to go back for Jack's breakfasts! We were late and tired after a delayed flight and so Gael served an impromptu light supper and Jack served the wine! Nothing is ever too much trouble, Once again we heartily recommend the Fairview for its accommodation, grounds, resident wildlife and the German apple pancake with fresh raspberries - and that was only a part of the meal! - made by Jack from scratch but most of all its friendly hosts; they have great new decks which still look out onto wonderful woodland and the currently dry riverbed through the trees - we can't wait to visit the inn again.
Thank you

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The House was built in 1923 as a summers home for cousins of the Wilder Family. The Carriage House (now used as a barn) was part of the old Ben Lomond Hotel that was burned down around 1915. Its owner was Fred Cody (cousin of Buffalo Bill Cody). The house was converted to a Bed and Breakfast in 1983. My mother bought the B&B in 1986 and it has been run by the Glasson family ever since. There are five bedrooms, all with private bathrooms. Four of the rooms can be used as two bedroom suites. The River Rock fireplace in the Great Room was made from the rocks found around the San Lorenzo River, which runs through the lower end of the three acre property. The back deck overlooks the river and the great mass of trees. Blackberries line the walkway and in September they are ripe for picking. The redwood grove boasts of a pond leftover from the Hotel and a waterfall has been added. Strolling through the property you will notice many areas available for conversation or merely relaxing. ... more   less
