hubby and i went to the van's for mother's day this year and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. so much so that we made a commitment to come back when we could order from the open menu.
well, we did and were not happy at all with our meals. i ordered chicken livers and hubby ordered medallions of beef. the tip-off should have been we couldn't tell one plate from the other when geo delivered our meals. as i cut into them, they were cooked to perfection - medium rare with lots of pink. but...the rich gravy was a bit much, as i couldn't taste the flavor of the chicken livers. hubby wasn't thrilled at all w/his beef - saying the gravy was a bit much, as well. since he's a gravy lover, i was surprised to hear this.
interestingly enough, the next day i made a sandwich w/his leftover medallions. they tasted like my chicken livers!!! the chicken livers didn't taste like liver, they tasted like gravy.
my herb rice was a bit too herbed. i couldn't eat it. the broccoli was cooked perfectly, but no seasoning on it.
if the prices weren't SO high i'd give 3 stars, but at these prices, i'm only giving 2 stars since we expected much better.
don't think we'll be back.
