It was with some anxiety that we booked a hotel in Bakersfield, as our previous experience at a hotel in this town had been less then optimal. However, Bakersfield is a good stopping point on our way to Yosemite/Sequoia/Kings Canyon national Parks. The motel was nice enough. It looks like it has recently been renovated, and there was no carpet on the floors, so a huge plus in terms of cleanliness. The price was good for the quality of the hotel. However, I don't understand why smokers are allowed in non-smoking rooms. Our room, as well as smelling of fresh paint, also smelled of smoke - why allow smoking inside when it reduces the quality of the experience for your next guests? Also, please don't let the cleaners knock on people's doors before checkout - it's really annoying and happened to us TWICE in one morning.
