We had stayed at this BW about five years ago. We liked it then.
We needed a room for one night again this time, so we thought of this BW, after staying at great BWs in Torrey and Springdale, both in Utah.
As we were given the keys to our room, we had to pass a loaded cart of dirty laundry 2 doors away from our room, at 6:30 pm. The room was very close to the laundry and the garbage dump (where the door was wide open with all the garbage smelling). There was garbage in the parking lot and cigrette butts all over on the south side of this hotel.
When we entered the room, the room smelled terrible - no idea what was there.
Here are a few more items:
1. The shower curtain in the tub was the cheapest I have ever seen, about 1/2 inch in the tub. As such all the water was coming in the toilet.
2. The exhaust fan had no power - when we came out after the shower the mirror was fully fogged in.
3. The hooks for hanging the clothes were at 7 feet, difficult to reach.
4. The soap dispenser for the bath soap had very little soap coming out - had a hard time taking shower.
5. Toilet paper holder was on rear wall - what a place to put one ?
6. I wanted to charge my cell phone - but no extra outlet.
We should have known that the property has really gone down in all these years. This was one of the worst BW we have ever stayed. By the way the front desk called and we explained all this to them - no result or action.

Apart from the rude staff in the bar we couldn't fault this place. We found the room cool and clean. Powerful shower, fridge, coffee machine, ironing board and lots of TV stations in room. As mentioned in the title we loved the huge pool and seperate spa, lots of loungers and mountains of towels piled around. Must just mention how polite and helpful the reception staff were.

Helpful, friendly staff. Attractive, comfortable, spotlessly clean room. Excellent internet access, and the cost was lower than I’d expect for such a nice room.

The attached restaurant is an ok, dehydrated potatoes and gravy kind of place. We did not take advantage of the complimentary breakfast, but it would probably suit most people: “Two eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns and toast, Coffee or Tea – no substitutions, no duplications.”

I would strongly recommend NOT staying here. The place is a dump - rooms smell, TVs don't work very well and the place is generally old, noisy, and dirty. Staff are pretty rude and unwelcoming. The restaurant is terrible too!

We stayed here for just one night, should have stayed for two as there is lots to see in Bakersfield. The room was very nice and even though it was located just outside of laundry room very quite. Staff was very nice and meals at restrauant were very good. Breakfast which was included in room was a nice extra as you got to choose from menu and service was also very good. Would stay there again, next time making sure that we visited the Crystal Palace as they have entertainment, and it sounds like it would be fun especially if your like country and western music. Pool area is really nice.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2009

I stayed a night at this hotel during a cross-country trip. Everything about it was great and it exceeded my expectations for the price (about $90/night).

The room was large, clean, and quiet, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast at the nearby restaurant was hot and tasty. I would definitely stay there again.

I should mention that this area of California has a certain odor to it due to the oil processing that goes on in the region, but the smell did not exist inside the hotel, thankfully.
