“Homewood Suites Bakersfield - Nice place to be!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2012

Stayed with two teenage kids for two nights early June. Booking was done through 3rd Party website.
Location can't be beat for Bakersfield. Near CSU Bakersfield, Most oil companies offices, and most importantly walking distance from the market place! We used to live in Bakersfield close by, and loves going to Stockdale's Market Place.
Check in was quick and efficient. Front desk was able to find us a room in ground floor - good service!
Room was not very big, but we only use the room to rest and sleep. There's a small but very well equipped kitchenette, fridge, dishwasher and microwave. Sliding door cupboard is hidden behind the full height mirror, and also holds ironing board and iron.
The room has a small sofa so either of the kids can relax or even sleep there. Flat screen TV, and big comfy bed.
Dressing mirror and wash basin is outside of the bathroom; there's no waiting for the bathroom use or cloudy mirror after a shower! The bathroom is of good size, shower and bath quite small.
There's a small gym but only has 2 treadmills, 1 static bike and a few weights.
Breakfast was OK. Quite a lot of choices - cereals, yogurt, fruits. Hot choices usually french fries and omelette. Breakfast area quite large and roomy, overlooking the small pool.
Check out was very fast and efficient.
All in all, this is a nice place to be in Bakersfield either for a short trip or even a longer stay.

I have only stayed a couple of times in Bakersfield and this is a great choice. it's easy to get to, but thankfully not right on the freeway (hwy99).
I was very pleased with the cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms. the kitchenette is great - has a full size refrigerator, microwave and stove. free popcorn (the kids loved that). they offer a free full breakfast in the mornings. free wifi too! it was a very comfortable stay. i would definitely stay there again.

My 2 issues were:
1) upon check-in, we had an issue because we booked a reward stay online for a 1 bedroom suite, but when we arrived, they gave us a studio suite. they said they were fully booked so couldn't accommodate us the 1st night, and had to move us for the 2nd night. there was nothing they could do....

the pool was horribly filthy - it was green, not the clear, blue color that I expect at a hotel to have that has many people & kids swimming in it. we called the front desk to notify them, they said they would contact maintenence, but we were there for 2 days and nothing was ever done. blech...

Our family of four stayed in a one bedroom, 2 queen family room with a small kitchen on the ground floor.
Beds were comfortable and it was nice to have a separate sitting area. The only downside to this room was the shower. It was wheelchair accessable and it was useless. It was a very skinny standup shower with a shower curtain. When you turned on the shower, water went everywhere in the bathroom and the shower hose was difficult to use, especially when you are trying to wash your hair.
Still not sure why we were put into a wheelchair accessable room, particularly when I booked 6 months ago!
The location of the room was situated right near the rear exit door, so it was quite noisy.
Upside was the breakfast the following morning. Great variety and it was located in a lovely sitting area.
All in all, an adequate place for an overnight stay.

Room Tip: avoid the wheelchair accessable room if you do not require it.

The Homewood Suites is the best stay in Bakersfield. Good rooms with little kitchen and fullsized refrigerator. Sofabed and comfortable King. Breakfast has a great selection. After having to stay in Bakersfield for 9 days in different Hotels, we finally were able to come back to homewood suites.

Room Tip: Rooms looking out to the pool are illuminated from the outside at night.

I stayed for a week business trip to my office and really love everything in this hotel. A homy place to choose while you are away from home.

Pros:
1. Great location, within walking distance to shopping center, theater, and -for sure- my office
2. Free wifi and cable Internet - fast -
3. There's a vending machine, coin washroom, mini basketball, swimming pool
4. Complete room: not only TV, Full sized Refrigerator, Full Kitchen sets (Stove, Microwave, etc. Including spoon, and small items you need to survive), Popcorn, tea, coffee, etc are also provided for free.
5. Breakfast is efficient but yummy. Dinner also served for free on weekday.
6. Comfort bed and room; good for family also
7. Business room is free; good choice when you dont bring own laptop
8. Ample free parking
9. Very helpful staff, friendly

Cons:
None

Tips:
1. Ask for Bakersfield city map, guideline from reception or business center
2. Don't miss the theater - or just going around the shopping center -

Room Tip: As near from the lobby if you dont like to walk

My wife and I loved the size and amenities of the one bed suite. It had everything you would want, especially if staying a few days. The room was great, food selection at breakfast was better than average, and all the staff was very friendly which to me, is a sign of a good manager.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2012

We stayed here twice in April. The first time it did not go well, but our second visit was very positive. Both times we stayed in a two bedroom suite. This is a real plus compared to most hotels which do not fit families of 5 very well.

On our first visit, we showed up and were told that they did not have the nonsmoking room that was on our confirmation. We were first told that all the nonsmoking suites had people in them that "had been there for months". Then when asked to see a manager, we were told that, "this hotel puts up people who have been burned out of their homes here in Bakersfield." I think that it is commendable, but the hotel certainly should have called me to tell me that they would not be able to honor my reservation for a nonsmoking room, instead of assuming that putting me wherever they had room was fine. When inquiring further, we were told that it was corporate policy to book in patrons into a room even if the hotel knows they do not have the room. This does not seem likely to be a Hilton policy, so we were surprised. The suite itself was OK for smell, not perfect (especially when running the AC) and the hallways were really smoky smelling on the smoking floor.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), we had to stay here again. The second time we received a non-smoking suite without trouble. I had called earlier in the day to remind them that I wanted a non-smoking suite, not a smoking one. I would recommend this for all travelers to this hotel.

All the suites are appointed nicely, and the breakfast is very nice (though getting a table in peak hours can be very difficult). Having a kitchen in the suite is a great touch, though the 5 AM fire alarm because a soccer player decided to warm his pizza in the oven and then accidentally set it on fire was not a good wake up call.

Room Tip: Make sure you confirm with a phone call earlier on check-in day that you are getting a non-smoking r...
