We wanted a Thai restaurant on the west end of town and selected the Blue Elephant largely by location (across from Cal State campus). Located in a mini-malll, we weren't sure what to expect, but what we were served was quite good. The fried calamari appetizer was very light, without a hint of toughness or grease. We next ordered the green papaya salad which, although thinned with jicama (is green papaya hard to come by in B'field?) was pretty good, and a nice balance with the other dishes. (We had it "very spicy", which was about right if you like moderately spicy food). Finally we shared a Thai Lamb Shank Masaman curry, something we'd never seen on a Thai menu before, It was beautifully prepared, and full of dark curry flavors. Unexpected, but delicious. All in all, a nice place that we would happily enjoy going back to, and order the same things! The prices are a little higher than you might expect for a small strip-mall Thai place, but the presentation and service was far better than most.
