“A Little Rough”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2008

This is not a nice property. This is one of the only hotels I have ever seen a roach in. The non-smoking room smelled quite smoky and musty. Almost all hotels in West Memphis are on the I-55 frontage road, which doesn't seem safe, and definitely isn't pleasant to the eye. Only stayed here because literally everything in Memphis was booked up. The only good thing was the refrigerator. I wouldn't stay here again if given the choice.

We stayed at the Quality Inn recently on a Saturday night. As other reviewers pointed out, there are no elevators, so you have to walk up two flights of stairs to the second floor. Evidently the hotel management doesn't believe in air conditioning the corridors, so it's a very hot climb:) The room itself was fine. There was a musky smell, but that seems to be typical at lower-end motels in the south. My biggest complaint is that housekeeping wasn't that thorough in cleaning the room. Corners were dirty and there was a urine stain on the toilet bowl. It wasn't a horrible stay, but I wouldn't stay there again. I'd try one of the other new motels along the interstate.

  • Liked — Breakfast had do-it-yourself waffles- the kids loved them!
  • Disliked — Cleanliness, no elevator.

We stayed here just one night on June 24th in route home from a vacation trip. When we arrived we noticed that it seemed very warm and humid with an odd odor...sort of a moldy smell...in the hotel lobby but attributed it to the very warm weather. We checked in and were given a room on the second floor and were directed to a stairway. We were told that there was no elevator in the facility. As we stepped into the stairwell we smelled a very foul odor (an odor that smelled like a mix of mold and urine). This odor continued up the stairs and down the hallway....we were ready to turn around and cancel the stay but decided to go ahead and check out the room. We were very surprised. Once we stepped into the room the foul odor disappeared. In fact the room had a very pleasant clean fresh smell to it. The room was very clean but we did notice several small areas of mold in the corners of the ceiling in the bathroom but no odor of mold, even though you could see the mold. The breakfast was decent and the staff was extremely friendly...especially the lady who was working the desk on Monday morning, the 25th. Because of the odor in the stairs and hallway....and especially because of the lack of elevator...I doubt we will stay there again.

  • Liked — The breakfast and the staff
  • Disliked — The odor!

We needed 2 rooms, the first was clean smelling and nice. The second room was clean, but smelled of mildew. I went to the front desk and was given the only other room available. The rooms still had a funky smell, but it wasn't of mildew. Breakfast was fair. Staff friendly enough.

  • Liked — easy highway access
  • Disliked — room smell and breakfast quality

We rented 7 rooms at this hotel while we were there for my grandmother's funeral. The rooms had a very foul odor and my step-mother had to immediately purchase some febreeze so that we could get rid of the smell. A night clerk was very nasty toward us and when we went to complain to the manager in the morning he was no help. Instead of listening to our problem he kept cutting us off trying to defend the clerk and her reasons for treating us so bad. The manager had a nasty attitude and when brought to his attention he told us that we could have our money back and go to another hotel. I don't recommend anyone stay at this awful, awful hotel.

We stayed at this Quality Inn on the way back from a trip to Texas. The rate was high for the area and hotel but figured it was probably because it was New Year's Eve. The hotel on the outside looked fairly new. It was not on the inside. It had been refurbished but poorly done. The tissue cover in the bathroon was rusty. As far as the room, it smelled bad, very bad. There were used towels left in the room. It listed a fitness center...there were two old style bikes with the fan wheel, two very small stair steppers (the kind you keep in the back of your closet) and a treadmill that was almost big enough for a child. Had the room been fairly priced I would not have had a real problem but given the rate and lack of cleanliness I was severly disappointed.

1st room smelled of urine, mold and mildew. 2nd room only smelled of mold and mildew. Had to buy candles at the Crackerbarrel to mask the smell. Internet didn't work. Told front desk of the problem. They said they had to reset the system. After several interchanges, we gave up (our equipment and ethernet cable worked fine the day before and after). The staff were very nice, but they couldn't fix anything. In a complaint letter to the company, the manager basically said that we were wrong, that we were only smelling the pool and that we should have asked for the phone number (??) that they have for internet problems.

Since we were also scouting for a hotel for other family members to stay in as they travel through Memphis in November and December, we checked on down the road. The West Memphis Holiday Inn looked great, it was the same price (with a $5 coupon for breakfast) and the room that we looked at looked good and didn't smell. If we could have gotten out of our online reservation, we would have gone there.

In case you think that we just complain, our hotels in Little Rock and Martinsburg, West Virginia, with the same hotel parent company, were fine.
