“JUST A BAD FISHING DESTINATION”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

went back to Big Game this Summer to try our hand again doing the offshore thing. Well what a dissapointment. The new bahamian guy they have there is a joke, typical bahamian charter boat. cleaner than we imagined but old, slow and just tired. We did catch a few dolphin and a cuda, nothing I would return for considering I can fish out of charleston and do much better on any given summer day. We did meet up with eagle eyed fred and had a great time on the flats with numerous bonefish some on the fly which was a first for us.
The hotel was still clean and nice, service was still overpriced and sub par with staff that seems as if they are doing us a favor by waiting on us, no appreciation at all. I would think for an island to be so dirty and trashed they would be thankful for anyone who comes to spend money there. This was our last try going to Bimini, we are tired of going to the Ghetto and paying for the ritz. Our next trip will be to the Exumas or the DR.

I just have to say I'm sorry for your recent disappointed trip to Bimini and your fishing experience but I am glad that you did have a good time with Eagle Eyed Fred, one of our premier bone fishing guides, and you found some bone fish on your rod.

Thank you for your comments on the cleanliness of the hotel and I am again sorry for your negative experience with our staff members. I will share your comments with our staff members to remind them that each guests experience is important and to show them that we do care that they come here....and pay our salaries....

In regard to the expense...well everything we buy here is imported from the US or abroad with extremely high duties. We try to keep the quality of our food and beverages up to par at the best possible prices...

Thank you again for a fair evaluation of our resort and we hope that you come back again when the island is spruced up more to your liking..

We arrived by boat from Miami. The Hotel has an onsite custom office, which makes arrival and clearance convenient. The immigration office is offsite, basically walk down the street (make a right from the property until you see the a marked police/immigration building on the left). When arriving by boat, only the captain of the vessel is allowed to leave the boat until customs and immigration is cleared. To save yourself hassle, make sure to get the immigration card from the dock master at the hotel - each individual on the boat must complete and sign the form. Fuel is not available onsite, but is just a couple of Marina's away (Current fuel costs were $6.00 per gallon)

The hotel is basic, so the name "Club Resort & Marina" makes it sound a little fancier then it is in reality. However, it is a nice and comfortable place to stay especially for fisherman/boaters arriving from South Florida.

We had a second floor room on the far end of the hotel, which made it a little bit of a hassle to bring the fishing equipment to the room we did not want to store in the open on the boat. The floor is concrete, which was a first for me. However, I can understand that this hotel caters to fisherman so this probably makes sense in trying to keep the floor clean and easy to maintain, which the room was. The bathroom was very basic. The Television was small, with a remote control that did not work properly. However, the bed was very comfortable and it was a nice and comfortable decor. The comfortable bed is really all that mattered to us after a long day in the boat anyway.

The biggest complaint about the room was that the walls are very thin. We could hear the conversation in the next room quite well, but luckily they settled down early enough for us to get a good night rest before fishing the next day. This could, however, cause a potential problem if you have a party crowd in the room next to you and you want to get some sleep, or are an earlier sleeper. As already mentioned in other reviews, many of the rooms face the road but we did not hear any street noise.

The restaurant is very basic, with an open area outside, and an indoor bar. Not much to do around the hotel, with the exception of a few small stores.

The hotel overall is nice, but expect a basic hotel and accommodations. The staff is very friendly and the hotel is very boater friendly.

For boaters there are cleaning tables and big Bull Sharks can be seen swimming around when the fisherman return for the day waiting to eat the cleaned fish that are tossed into the water.

During the day we cruised and fished from our boat, so not much to report there from a hotel perspective (The boating and fishing, however, was outstanding!!!). I did see the small pool, but it seemed cloudy and looked a little dirty.

Now with that being said, I would return but set my expectations lower then those I initially had before arriving.

Dear Tom

Thank you for a very informative and through review that you obviously took time to prepare to outline your recent experiences at Bimini Big Game Club Resort and Marina. We certainly appreciate your candor and your very kind remarks about the comfort, cleanliness and non pretentious atmosphere that is present at our resort. We are very pleased to have the Bimini Customs office located at the resort and they are open until 7 PM nightly.

The resort was renovated 4 years ago which brought in new beds, flat screen TV's, new furniture and décor along with a brushed concrete flooring and bathroom renovations in the guest rooms. Our beds are known to be very comfortable, we have a full assortment of in room amenities including coffee, shampoo, conditioner and body lotions, and our rooms are very clean. Our housekeeping staff does a great job keeping our guests happy.

Most of the time our guests are quiet and are tired and get to bed early as they are up early to go fishing in some of the most exciting fishing and diving waters in the world so noise complaints are rare. If you do have a complaint we have nightly security that will quiet down your neighbors.

Bimini Big Game Restaurant and Bar is said to have the best food and libations on the island and we are proud to serve Big Game Ale as our specialty draft beer.

We will take a closer look at our pool cleaning schedule but its is so popular we have a tough time getting people out of the pool to give us time to clean it as they enjoy our poolside bar at the same time.

Thank you again for your candid and well intended comments. We look forward to welcoming you back to Bimini Big Game in the near future.

I had a lot of fun visiting this place. Bimini is a true jewel, but if luxury is what you want. Stay at Bimini Bay, they have a casino and large docks. If you want to fish, and swap fishing stories then Big Game Club is the perfect place. During New Years I was having lunch and Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh came in and sat at the next table.

Well I loved your comparison to the other resort. I have to say you are Spot On....If you want to tell and hear fishing stories over your favorite libation in a comfortable, clean but unpretentious and fun place...Bimini Big Game Club is the place to be.

Its true that we attract celebrities from all over the globe. Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh were both here (and both staying with the Miami Heat) and you will see many more in the coming days with our Wahoo Smackdown coming up Nov 13.

Thank you for your review and we hope to welcome you back real soon.

There is an "old world charm" associated with "Big Game". The marina, hotel and restaurant have not been greatly impacted by the large scale development on the north end of the island -- the docks don't float, the bar and restaurant often don't put their walls or windows in place (fantastic sea breezes), and the hotel rooms are basic -- but clean. "Welcome to the Bahamas".
Bahama Customs and Immigration are virtually on site, Cisco is a wonderful and super friendly Dock Master, Divito knows the local waters if you want to scuba, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
If you want something more upscale this is not your place -- move up the channel to the newer properties at Resort World. But if you want a comfortable hammock and some local color Big Game is still a great choice.
NOTE that many of the rooms are built along the main road running through the island, weekend nights can be busy and a bit loud.

Room Tip: Big Game is also a marina on the east side of the island; 150 yards west is a very long white sand b...

Thank you very much for your kind words while reviewing your recent stay at our resort. We truly have "Old World Charm" as our resort was frequented by notables of Ernest Hemmingway, Zane Grey, Michael Lerner, and Howard Hughes in the 1930s and 1940s. In the 1960's Martin Luther King Jr. spent time relaxing at the Big Game Club writing speeches in the bone fishing waters in Bimini.

Cisco and DeVito will certainly enjoy your accolades and thanks for mentioning their great service to our guests.

Our resort immolates the comfortable hammocks that are scattered throughout the property and we are a very clean and comfortable and fun resort to relax.

Thank you again for your candid comment and we look forward to welcoming you and your family back again.

Bimini is a small casual Island, and the hotel is located centrally, so easy access to all local shops and restaurants. While there we rented a golf cart to tour the island at our leisure. There is a tram that runs the entire island for $3.00, but it's not consistent, and we never seemed to be able to catch it. The Big Game club itself is an older hotel, very clean, but in need of some updating. Hot water for the shower was not always available, and the pool needs extensive remodeling. They have a poolside bar which was nice, and the views from the marina are amazing. We did book a fishing trip with Captain Steve Knowles out of the hotel. He was great! He put all of us on fish, and his boat was clean. The boat had a cabin where you could cool of in the A/C. All at the front desk were very helpful with questions, and I found the local people to be very friendly and helpful. There is a small straw market in town where you can shop. When you catch fish the chef at the onsite restaurant will prepare it for you. He prepared our Mahi Mahi and Mackerel 3 different ways and presented it beautifully to us. We also ate dinner at the Bimini blue Water (across the street) and had a wonderful dinner 2 nights with great service, and great views. The only really disappointing thing was that we booked, through the hotel a snorkeling trip and the boat never showed. They did offer us a discounted trip the next day, but we went on our own to the beach and snorkeled. The beaches are amazing, but like most of the Bahamas covered in trash from dumping at sea. The water is crystal clear and warm. We did notice a lot of families with children at the hotel, so I guess this would be a great place for a family vacation. Overall this was a great vacation, very laid back and relaxing. We flew in from Ft. Lauderdale on Silver Airways, but a lot of people travel here by boat. A bonus of the trip was since it was July 4th we were able to see lots of fireworks - 3 different sets over the water, which was amazing.

Room Tip: I would be careful in your room selection. We were on the 1st floor, and had people above us and it...

Thank you for your thoughtful and through comments regarding your recent stay with us.

We particularly appreciate your great comments on Steve our fishing captain and how our chef prepared your fresh fish to your liking.

I was disappointed that you had a problem with our snorkeling excursion. I am glad that he did offer restitution to you and your family but I will make a special effort to discuss your recent failed trip with him to insure this does not recur.

Thank you again for your very nice comments and we look forward to welcoming you back to Bimini and the Big Game Club Resort and Marina.

My husband and I traveled here with another couple for 4 nights over the 4th of July weekend. The marina was full of beautiful boats and the view from the restaurant overlooking the marina was awesome. Check-in was fast and easy. Pat at the front desk was very friendly and was very helpful with questions we had about the area and the hotel. We booked a 1/2 day charter thru the hotel with Captain Steve Knowles. He was excellent and had a very nice 45 foot boat with a large cabin,a/c and bathroom. He made sure we were all comfortable and had a good time. We had made a reservation for all four of us to go snorkeling the next day thru the resort. We showed up at the meeting place on time and a total of 11 people all waited for 45 minutes (at $65 a head) and the snorkel boat never showed up. We were all disappointed since it was a 1:30 pm trip and had planned our day around leaving at that time. We did not have to pay upfront so we weren't out any money. We were offered the snorkel trip for the next day for $40 but it was too windy and it stormed. We decided to rent a golf cart from LeRicks Golf Cart Rental for 4 hours and drive around the island. The beach directly behind the resort was beautiful. I found our room to be clean and well stocked. Housekeeping staff was very friendly and promptly found me a hair dryer when the one provided in my room was not working. We noticed that the rooms in our section were cleaned later in the day which I liked so we never felt rushed to get out of the room in the morning. We ate most of our meals at the restaurant on the property. The food was good and reasonably priced. The chef cooked the mahi mahi we had caught on Capt Steve's boat and presented it to the table on a huge platter. He had prepared the fish 4 different ways and it was excellent. The cost was $15 and included your choice of 2 side dishes.
The pool area needs some attention. The pool was not very clean and needs a facelift. The pavers around the pool were uneven so I tripped a few times as did lots other people walking around the pool area. Overall, I would say this is a great place to stay for a guys fishing trip.

Room Tip: Ground level room was quiet.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent experiences at our resort. We certainly appreciate your comments about Pat and Capitan Steve and will let them know you mentioned them in your review.

I am disappointed that the snorkel boat excursion did not show on your scheduled time but was pleased that he offered some sort of compensation for your troubles. As the excursions are operated by separate companies that service our resort, we only allow the best operators in our resort but sometimes mechanical failures or other events cause delays in services.

thank you very much for your very nice comments about our housekeeping services and your pleasant experiences in our restaurant. We are proud to say we have the best in food, libations and service of any Bimini resort.

Our pool does need some attention and after our busy Summer season we will be addressing the new resurfacing and attention to the pool pavers in the Fall.

Thank you again for your wonderful comments and we look forward to hosting you and your family again.

I have been to Bimini many times but this is the first time I have stayed at Big Game Club. We went with the family so the amenities were great for the kids; pool, hammocks, ping pong, billiards , etc...Also having the restaurant and pool bar and outdoor grills was very convenient. The rooms were very nice with large balconies and comfortable chairs and beds. Our only complaint was we didn't receive housekeeping service one day; not even clean towels after I asked twice. And the A/C took a while to cool down the room. I would definitely stay here again especially when we bring the whole family.

I was disappointed that you didn't receive housekeeping services on one of the days of your stay. This is a very unusual occurrence and rest assured I have spoken to our housekeeping manager to insure this does not recur.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family back to our resort in the very near future.
