“Great Place to Stay - Be Prepared to Walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2009

My husband and I stayed at the Valentin for our anniversary in September 2009. The place was incredible, but we chose the hottest time of the year to visit. The rooms were fantastic, and we had a pool directly outside our room, which was very convenient. It was not the main pool, which was even better, because we shared the pool with only several other couples, and had a bar, place to get towels, etc., without fighting the crowd at the main pool, plus there were plenty of places to sit in the sun or the shade. The service was excellent. It did take the staff until late in the afternoon to clean our room at times, but with a phone call, they were there immediately. The main downfall with the facility was the walking. Depending on where your room is located within the resort, you have to walk a distance to get a meal, go to the beach, the main pool, lobby, etc. As I stated, we were there at the hottest time of the year, and after walking a distance, most of the restaurants did not have air conditioning, so, at times, enjoying your meal was difficult. Room service works great in this instance. We used it several times for breakfast and once for lunch. The area where they perform at night was also not air conditioned, which may not seem like a big deal, but when the temperatures are close to 100 degress everyday, and not much cooler at night, you're looking for some relief when you arrive at your destination. One thing we did discover is that you can get a ride back to your room anytime, if you're in the main lobby area, which is where most of the restaurants are located. As far as the food goes, buffet was offered at breakfast and lunch, but you could only eat at specialty restaurants in the evening. You did not need a reservation for the specialty restaurants, but the wait, at times, was close to one hour. I was a little disappointed that they did not offer buffet for dinner. Of the specialty restaurants were tried, the Italian and the Steakhouse were our favorites. Although we heard the Lobster House was excellent, which we did not try, but was always crowded. Overall, we had a fun and relaxing vacation. Since the hotel is not located close to anything, we stayed at the resort the entire trip. This is not the hotel for you, if you're looking for nightlife, since downtown is 25 minutes away. You certainly can take transportation to this area, but you're going to pay for it. For the price, you could not find a better place to stay. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking to relax and forget about life for a few days.

My husband and I went to the Valentin to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. It was fantastic and we are already to book our next trip and it will definitely be here, unless we let our girls come with us this time. The food was excellent, the staff was friendly and the rooms were better than our expectations. We did leave a tip after every meal..just a dollar or two and we tipped the lady who cleaned our room. The only bad thing I would say is the dinner service is a little slow. Expect a hour to an hour and 1/2. The sushi was pretty good, and the Thai place was great. The pool was unbelievable.

We were highly satisfied. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted w/ cold towels and glasses of champagne as we were escorted to the main lobby for check in.
Our room was lovely! We were in building 6, which was close to the beach and the main pool and also has it's own smaller private pool. The ground floor rooms have swim up balconies. We were on the third floor w/ pool, lagoon and ocean views. There was a small terrace and a larger balcony w/ a table and chairs. We had a living room area w/ sofa & tv plus a bedroom area w/ king size (super comfy & very sturdy!) bed and a second tv. The bathroom had an oversized jacuzzi tub w/ wooden shutters that opened into the bedroom. There was also a very large shower, toilet and bidet. Of course there's the mini fridge that gets restocked everyday, big closets and in room safe.
The pool was expansive with 2 large swim up bars and tons of seating. We never had a problem finding a spot in the shade. There were also lounge chairs resting in the water, which was nice if you wanted to soak up the sun and then pop in the pool for a dip to cool off.
The ocean water was beautiful and clear, though a little rough. There was also extensive seating on the beach, both covered and uncovered. There is a beach bar w/ waiter service too.
All of the staff was very friendly and attentive. The only time we ever really noticed any sort of problem was at dinner when they seemed very busy and were a bit slow, but it wasn't really a big deal.
I know sometimes the activity and entertainment people can get a bit obnoxious at these types of places, but this was not the case at the Valentin. There were lots of activities listed every day that were included and they did some afternoon pool stuff, but there was never any pressure nor was it loud or obtrusive.
The bars were all great, everything was top shelf and the bartenders were fun, friendly and attentive. The drinks were certainly flowing!
I commented repeatedly on how lush and beautiful the grounds were. Their landscape team does a very nice job.
Breakfast: We hit up the buffet every morning and were very pleased. They had every conceivable thing you could think of including two omelet stations, tons of fruit, a bloody mary & mimosa station, salad bar, cold cuts and on and on.

Lunch: We hit up both buffets, the bigger one is in the same place as breakfast and the smaller one is on the beach in the same place the Lobster Pot is. The bigger one was better, but both had a lot of variety and were good.

Ginger, the Japanese place: Great food!. We had tempura, shrimp soup, soba noodles, sushi and something else I can't remember. The sushi was very limited at the table. They do have a small sushi bar and also teppanyaki tables.

La Hacienda, the Mexican place: Again, very good. We had salad w/ awesome avacado dressing, crab soup, tortilla soup, shrimp fajitas and tequila shrimp. The only thing we wouldn't order again is the tequila shrimp. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as awesome as everything else.

Lobster Pot, the seafood place: We had salads, clam chowder, crab legs, filet and of course, lobster. The clam chowder was ok, very creamy and the steak was a great cut and tasty, but undercooked. The lobster and salads were fresh and delish!

Our friends ate the the Indonesion place and said it was awesome and the French place, which was just ok. The room service was great and they have a delish Kobe beef burger on the menu. Also, I loved how fresh and crisp all of the produce was. I had a salad w/ every meal because it was so good.

All in all, we had a lovely time and were very pleased w/ our decision to go to both the Riviera Maya and the Valentin Imperial Maya.

We booked flight and hotel and transportation from airport to resort through American Airlines. Totally amazing stay. We were treated like royalty from the beginning to the very end. We were greeted with champagne and damp towel. The upgraded our room at no cost. We were so thrilled. The most amazing room ever. Funny thing, we didn't know there was a beverage hut just outside because we went to the beach the opposite way each time, until the last day. Probably a good thing, because we would have enjoyed the hut hospitality even more often. The food was quite good. Portions were small, but we ordered additional entrees. The service from everyone was top shelf. The porter kept our fridge stocked with the specific beer and sodas that we requested. We did the Xel-Ha and Tulum excursion. Xel-Ha was such fun. I would do it again. I am glad we got to see Tulum, but we got to see Tulum. We did the shopping trip to Playa and that was quite good, except for the barker atmosphere. Watch out in the airport for the "helpful' people. They are selling time shares. Go straight to your pre-arranged transportation. Thank everyone who tries to help you, but keep going straight ahead.

My boyfriend and I just got back from 7 nights at this incredible resort. We both have been to several other all-inclusives (2 in Mexico and 2 in Jamaica) and we both agree that the Valentin Imperial Maya was by far the best. We were in building 4, right in the middle of the resort, we had an ocean and pool view. The rooms we spacious and bed comfortable. The food was really good, our favorite was the French one (and we don't really even like French food!). Service was great, especially Samuel. This resort does NOT skimp on the alcohol - you want more? Just say so, and they will throw in as much booze as you want. Top shelf, I might add. Bring your own float for the pool - they go FAST. Wish there were more palapas on the beach - shaded spots go really fast. We truly loved this resort and were shocked at just how smooth everything went. We would go back in a heartbeat..... I absolutely would recommend this hotel!!

Insider tip - Bring lots of one dollar bills, making change into US dollars is nearly impossible.

Just returned from Valentin Imperial - We received an upgrade in room d/t booking thru expedia. Suite was beautiful. Huge bathroom. Every amenity. Everything in our suite worked great. On the other hand my son and daughter inlaw had a little trouble. First they had to wait for a their room, when taken to their room it was occupied by another guest. So they had to wait some more for another room. I felt at that point the resort should have automatically upgraded their room because of all the inconvience they had. They did not. They had hot water in tub but not in the shower till last day. The pools and beach were fabulous. We were in building 8 with a swim up suite. Which was great accept the "lagoon" area needs some work on the landscaping. The rest of our group were in building 4 near the main pool. The food and drinks were great. The entertaintment was good. All the staff were super!! There were 12 people in our group of family and friends. We all aggreed it was the best vacation ever. Be prepared to walk quite a bit. Be sure and take lots of sunscreen, a really comfortable pair of sandals or flip flops and several single bills for tips and have a great time!! Adios amigos

We had a short stay at the resort. Only 3 nights. Would have liked to stay longer. The weather was perfect, the beach was incredible. All the food we had was good. We ate the the Mexican, the French, the Lobster Pot for our dinners. The steak and lobster restaraunts by the beach are both without a/c and there is actually no view of the beach from them. If you want a real dinner by the water you have to pay extra for a special set up. If there is a place to eat lunch with a/c we didn't find it. The steakhouse (special buffet set up) and the big buffet in the middle of the resort are the only places we found open for lunch. You could order room service if you must. One of the bartenders we talked to said they tried to make more ocean view rooms but many of the trees are federally protected and they were unable to clear them. There is no view of the ocean from the pool either. We like to hang out at the bar by the beach or pool. There was no bar by the beach and the pool bar closed early. Not much night life at all. The sports bar was open til 2 and it is indoors with great a/c but it is a long dark walk from any of the rooms. The paths are very poorly lit. No reason to be scared but still..really really dark.
The entire resort is non-smoking in any indoor areas. We had a nice relaxing quiet time together for our 20th anniversary and we did enjoy our stay. No major complaints at all.
Of all the resorts I have been to in Mexico, this is our 2nd favorite. The room was great, the food was good, the beach was fantastic.
