“Great Adults Only Get Away in Paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2014

We had a delightful trip and very likely will plan a return some time in the future. The all inclusive facility has a natural look and feel because the buildings are not one a top another and the landscaping is beautiful. The birds/critters in the area were entertaining and not pesty.

Be prepared for a short stroll from area to area or build in time for transport. Rooms were nice (We upgraded to the Imperial Suite which is large and has a great view. Our friends upgraded too but they unfortunately had a balcony jacuzzi that did not get warm despite a visit from maintenance so it was good ours was big enough for all of us - it was disappointing that it could not be fixed or some compensation provided for their inconvenience). Our room was very clean. We missed having some liquor in the rooms especially when the bars at the pools and beach closed at 5:00 but we adapted.

Pool is huge. Beach is beautiful Lazy river is delightful but could use an additional bar or more frequent chair side service. Privileged package allows you reserve cabana type lounging at the pool or beach - instead, we took a book, found seating and settled in after breakfast which worked fine.

Meals requiring planning. Especially if you have more than one couple. Men need to wear pants to dinner (but oddly, they allowed white under shirts or biker tshirts yet turned us away for dress shirts and Bermuda shorts - you need to read the rules very closely). There is no option of a buffet for dinner so timing is critical. If you want to eat before 9:30, you need to get in line for a table between 6:30 and 7:00 and some of the restaurants will provide a beeper to let you know when your table is ready which gives you plenty of time to enjoy a cocktail. Food was good to great and service was mixed depending on restaurant, server and meal. The service ranged from ok to excellent.

All in all. Pleasant stay. 4 nights and 5 days was perfect. March 30th-April 2nd

Room Tip: Because of the spread out nature of the facility, pick a room close to where you like to spend the d...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2014

We just returned from spending two weeks and our 10th anniversary at VIM. This was our first trip to this resort and has now become our new home. We have vacationed in many resorts the Riviera Maya, Cabo Sans Lucas and Punta Cana - Dreams, Bahia Prinicipe, Iberostar and Palladium Resorts and this was by far the best resort we have ever stayed at. It is truly a 5 star resort with the friendliest people I have ever met and being an adults only resort made it even that much better. They truly go out of their way to ensure you are pleased with everything. All the restaurants - French, Italian, Mexican, Indonesian, Japanese, Steak House all had excellent food and excellent service - I would recommend them all. The beach had soft white sand and the water was turquoise in color and clear. The pool was huge and they had lots of floaties so you don't need to bring your own. The liquor was top shelf - Grey Goose Vodka, Crown Royal, Capt Morgans, Bacardi's, Bailey's, Kahlua, Blue Sapphire - anything you want they had and they were all done very well. They had music every night to listen and dance to and the typical shows in the theatre. They have various room types and grades depending on what you want and how much you want to spend however for us location is more important since we don't go to Mexico tp spend time in our rooms. We stayed in a regular Deluxe room and it was great - the pool was 50 feet away and the beach was a 3 m inute walk. I could go on and on about the resort and the 2 weeks we spent there however other TA posters have also said the same things. If you would like any other information or have specific questions please feel free to email me directly titleist_11@hotmail.com and I will answer them as honestly as I can. So to sum up our 2 week vacation at VIM in one word - AWESOME!

We just returned Thursday from our 9th stay at obviously our favorite resort, the Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya. When friends ask why we always go to the same resort we respond, it’s beautiful, tropical relaxing and the staff from the front desk to the gardeners are wonderful, greeting you with Hola, Buenos Dias or other similar phrases. As you pass along the driveway to the main building lined with tropical growth perfectly manicured and arrive at the resort entryway you are met with “Welcome Home” and to us that is an appropriate saying. We go away to enjoy the warm weather, ocean views and delicious food after a tough winter in New England, the Valentin meets all of our needs. On this visit the resort was almost fully occupied but you never feel crowded due to the layout of the facilities. We arrived early and our room was not ready yet so after checking in at reception where we took advantage of the “privilege program” we made use of the changing rooms located close to the front entrance and headed to the beach. The resort has added concierge service at the beach and we met Nancy who directed us to our lounge and picked up towels for us as your beach towels are in your room. We found Nancy and her co-concierge Juan to be attentive and a great addition to our overall enjoyment of the beach and resort. They assisted in answering questions about activities and always had the trademark smiles and “welcome home’ attitude of every employee at the Valentin, they also made our dinner reservations for us which is another perk of the privilege program. Another concierge who we had the pleasure to deal with again is Angelica, who we had met on previous visits. She assisted in clearly explaining how the points we have accumulated over our multiple visits can be turned into free nights on our next visit. We had a junior suite in building 5 on the 3rd floor with a view of the ocean on this visit which was very comfortable and had all the amenities such as a stocked mini frig and Wi-Fi service. The housekeeping staff does an excellent job of cleaning and changing linens and towels in the morning as well as turndown service in the evening.
The food at the Valentin in our opinion is excellent and the potions are fine. We try to visit each on the restaurant on our visits and have favorite wait staff in each one. It is the staff that we enjoy and look forward to as much as the food and as I mention the names of people we have met and look forward to dining with I know there are other staff just as conscientious and pleasant that we have not had the pleasure to meet. At the Italian Il Olivo on our 1st night, Victor was our server and met the high standard the resort has for the waiters. We find the wait staff is always willing to explain the selections and wine list or take your picture as you enjoy your meal. Il Olivo has added a wine cellar in the main dining area since our last visit in September. On our second night we chose the hibachi table a Ginger. We like to eat there early in our visit to meet other guests and find out where they come from and have a fun meal as the chef performs. This visit we found many Canadians at our table along with a couple from Michigan, everyone was escaping the cold and all were enjoying their stay. Throughout our visit we would meet some of these same guests in other areas of the resort, bars, beaches, pools and restaurants and get quick updates on their stay but mostly the date that we would all have to leave this paradise and head back to the cold. Our visits always include the French restaurant, L’Alsac where the duck is delicious and our server; Christian did an outstanding job flaming the baked Alaska. The Indonesian restaurant also serves an excellent duck. The steakhouse introduced us to Ricoberto who has a smile that never quit as he served us that night; we also renewed our friendship with Manuel who has served us in the past. Our last evening meal was at La Hacienda and Ureal was added to our list of staff who we will request in the future as he made our dinner fun and helped with our selections and Mexican coffee showing us how they made it and what is in it.
At breakfast and lunch we ate at either Mar y Tierra or Le Marche. Elena and Elisia at Le Marche have greeted us warmly by name on many of our visits as we start our day on the porches at Le Marche. At Mar y Tierra, Angel who we refer to as the “mayor” because he is everywhere and has a personality as big as the dining area greeted us with a big hug as did many of the other staff. You can always enjoy a Mimosa or Bloody Mary to start the day and Abel our server who we have had the pleasure of dining with on previous visits kept our coffee cups and glasses full at breakfast and lunch. Omar is another of the wait staff that we enjoy seeing on our visits; both he and Abel do a great tequila boom boom. Gabriela who was the main grill person we used at the breakfast buffet never made a bad omelet or had a shell in the fried eggs. She made eggs to order quickly and efficiently and I’m amazed at how well she can handle standing behind that hot griddle and smile as we enjoy her efforts at the start of the day.
At the beach we would never become dehydrated because of the efforts of Lourdes, Anayeli or our favorite Sonia. These women walk up and down the beautiful, hot beach carrying trays of drinks to keep us cool as we relax in the shade and enjoy the breeze from the Caribbean or the warm waters. On this visit the beach was so perfect we never used the pools which we have enjoyed in the past. The surf was moderate most days and the water so inviting we spent several hours each day contemplating how much we enjoy our visits.
Our evenings have always ended with a flaming Mayan Coffee and we like the way that Israel, another of our favorite staff makes them but we had to find him as he wasn’t at the lobby Martini Bar. He was now in Don Miguel and after some inquiries we were able to enjoy coffee sitting at the bar watching him flame the coffee and listening to the piano player or engaging in conversations with other guests many who were from the colder climates. Entertainment on La Plaza is a nightly event and we enjoyed dancing under the stars.
The grounds keepers never rest and the maintenance, changes and improvements to the facility never end, each trip we look to see what has changed. This visit brought about a change to room service wine delivery, in the past you could order a bottle of house wine and there was no charge. On this visit you can now only order 4 glasses at no charge each day, not a big deal but one we don’t understand as the room service staff works harder to deliver 4 full glasses than one unopened bottle.
I’ve spent much more time on the staff in this review than the facilities, Mary and I agree that the resort is fantastic and the pictures on any of the travel sites show that but the staff truly makes us feel at home. September is the month that we celebrate our honeymoon with the Valentin and we are already planning that return visit.

We stayed in building 5 as per my request and found it to a perfect location.

This resort has it all and rates a 5 star +++
The grounds are lush tropical gardens that are meticulously kept
Our Junior Suite was spacious with 2 balconies and marble bathroom
We were made to feel special the moment we checked in and every minute of our stay,
We were greeted with a glass of Champaign and seated in a luxurious lobby
Walking the property is zen like you are surrounded by beauty, thatched roofs, bridges over ponds surrounded by flowers and the sound of soothing music is piped in all around the resort. (very romantic)
A stunning pool the size of a lake complete with (2) waterfalls, 2 swim-up bars and amazing floats and plenty of chairs.
Floating on the lazy river is pure heaven
The beach is gorgeous and clean with plenty of shade, no need for beach shoes
The 10 restaurants and 9 bars cater to the most discerning tastes. It would be extremely difficult to pick one favorite.

Sushi is incredible at Ginger/Japanese
Teppanaki table show is fabulous at Ginger (requires reservations)
La Hacienda/Mexican & Tamansari, Indonesian have romantic dining outside. L’Alsace/French is formal and very classy/food and presentation amazing
L’Olivo/ Italian, far exceeded our expectations.

**The most important asset the resort offers is the warm gracious and accommodating staff that goes out of their way to make your stay extraordinary. We have to say a huge thank you to the following people for providing service above and beyond;

Christian/Assistant Manager reservations
Angel/Manager Mar y Tierra (thanks again for the fish tacos, delicious!
Luis/server/Mar y Tierra
Isidros/server/Mar y Tierra
Mary/server/Tamansari
Suzanna/server/Tamansari
Samual/server/Ginger, service so amazing we went twice!
Gabriella/cook/Mar y Tierra, outstanding omlettes

We would highly recommend this resort to anyone and started planning our return on the flight home.

Room Tip: We didn't have the Privileged pkg. but still got shade on beach but be prepared to get up early.

We visited the Valentin Imperial Maya the week before Christmas in December 2013 with family and friends. Unfortunately, the events that occurred on the first night of our stay will prevent us from ever returning to this resort.

A little bit of background - my husband and I had just stayed at a couples-only resort in Saint Lucia for our honeymoon two months prior to this Christmas vacation. We paid twice as much for our honeymoon as we did for this vacation (same length of time), and were anxious to see how the two stays compared.

Upon entering the VIM, we were blown away by the resort's beauty and size. You drive quite a great distance to get from the main gates to the resort's entrance/lobby, and, therefore, you do not hear any traffic noise whatsoever. We were offered champagne upon arrival and the entire check-in process was a breeze. We quickly dropped our suitcases in our room and set out to wait in the lobby for some other members of our party to arrive at the resort. We lost a member of our party at the airport in Cancun (she was not on the same flight as the rest of us) and some members of our party had stayed back at the airport to find her. It took a couple of hours to get everyone at the resort, and when they finally arrived, we were tired and hungry. My husband and I went back to our room, I dropped off my carry-on bag, we hung our do not disturb sign, and left for dinner. We returned approximately 2 hours later to find that a fruit basket had been delivered to our room (we had not asked for one). The fruit basket had been left on a table that was next to the chair I had left carry-on bag on. We are experienced travelers and never, ever leave valuables outside of the safe, but with all of the stress of trying to get our party together, we had left our room to go to dinner before setting up the safe. I had a bad feeling and went to look through my carry-on bag. The contents were all out of order and my wallet, which had been stored in a zipped compartment at the bottom of the bag, was now laying on top of the other possessions in the bag. I opened the wallet and found that $330 was missing.

We immediately went to report the incident. We asked to speak with a manager. Several people came to us claiming to be the manager, only to find out later in our conversation with them that they actually were not the manager. No one seemed terribly concerned or embarrassed that this had happened. A team of three people came to look through our room. The entire time they were in our room, they were asking questions and making comments that made it seem as though we were lying about the stolen money. They told us to check back the next day after they had finished their investigation.

We check back the next day. They told us the investigation was still not complete and to come back again. Finally, late in the afternoon on day 2 we were able to meet with upper-level management. They came to us with a pamphlet with the portion stating how they were not responsible for items left outside of the safe highlighted. I completely understand that we made a huge mistake by not securing our valuables immediately upon arrival, but I had a real problem with this attitude that any of my belongings that could not be put in the safe were up for grabs for resort employees. We were also told that they knew who had entered our room based on information from the key used to enter the room, but that they had checked his work locker and did not find the money, so there was no proof. When we finally got to speak to the general manager, he said that he could not give us money back, but that he could offer us a massage at the spa. That infuriated me. After a lot of back and forth, he offered to upgrade us to the Privilege Package for the remainder of our stay. He also added to the Privilege Package allowing us to make reservations at restaurants for all 8 members of our party instead of just the two of us. I never would have even spent $330 on this package (it was valued at about twice that), but we figured that something was better than nothing and that the reservations would be really nice for our large party.

For the remainder of our trip, we did not allow anyone to come in to service our room. After receiving the message that our belongings were up for grabs, why would we? I wasn't going to make that mistake a second time. Any time we needed our fridge restocked or new towels, we had to wait to have them delivered. Our floors got really sandy over the course of the week. One of the nicest parts of going on vacation at a resort is having a clean room to return to, and that, unfortunately, was not the case for this vacation.

The last night of our trip, we encountered another problem. That day, I set up reservations like I had the past several days. We arrived at the restaurant that evening to discover that our reservations had not gone through. We called the Privilege desk and they said they did not have a record of us making a reservation for that evening and that the staff member who had made the reservation for us was gone for the day. We were told that the only thing we could do was put our name on the list (at the bottom of the list) and wait 1.5-2 hours for a table. That is absolutely ridiculous. The mistake was not on our end and yet we were the ones left to pay the price. After arguing back and forth with the manager at the restaurant and the Privilege staff members, the restaurant manager finally agreed to seat us. When all was said and done, we sat down to dinner 45 minutes after our reservation time.

All in all, we lost $330 and countless hours of vacation time. This was without a doubt the most stressful vacation I have ever taken. Had we not been vacationing with others, we would have left after day 1.

Management needs a big lesson on what good customer service is. The resort is nice, but we will never return because of our experiences with the management and some staff members. Angelica in the Privilege Club office is the only person I enjoyed dealing with. Maybe if she took over the role of general manager this place would learn a bit about customer service.

After a long summer (unfortunately filled with work) we decided to book a last minute trip. Stayed for seven glorious days! The weather was terrible for 3 days but we then got 3 days of full non stop sun. This was our first adults only ai and i loved that kids weren't running everywhere!

Had an emerald suite in building 9 on the 2nd floor and it was fantastic! Had a great view, huge bed and huge tub! Housekeeping was a little spotty, sometimes they would come late, and sometimes too late for turndown service that we we're already asleep. Wifi worked great in our room.

The food was phenomenal. Our favourites we're the French and the steakhouse. Least favourite was the Mexican. We didn't try the Indonesian. Loved the breakfast buffet at mar y Tierra and the lunch buffet at le marche. We did eat off the a la carte at le marche once the buffet closed and it was fantastic. Unfortunately we we're so full from our dinners we never got to try the room service.

The drinks we're made to perfection. My drink of choice we're mimosas in the morning and Miami vice throughout the day. I didn't try the wines so I cannot comment on it.

My favourite spot was in the pool on the ledge with the beach chairs. I could lie there all day! Pool service was amazing. One day a little spotty but overall I cannot complain. Truthfully I hardly ever had to get up to get a drink! We stayed more on the quiet side of the pool and washrooms we're super close which was nice.

We did walk the beach a bit, but not much as we are not beach people but the sand was soft and white.

Yes the resort is big and there is a ton of walking, bring comfortable shoes, and don't be afraid to wait for a shuttle back to your room! The shows at night we're really early we found but we ate early enough that we could see them.

I am really hoping to return again!

Seven ladies (White Pearl Ladies) met for a reunion of 40 plus years of friendship for the most wonderful week of March 9 - 16.We arrived from LA, Orlando, New Orleans, and Memphis. We spent seven glorious days dining at fine French, Mexican, and Indonesian restaurants, and danced every night to fantastic entertainment and shows. We took our picture with Michael Jackson, and partied with some new friends from all over the world. We were treated like princesses from the moment we arrived until the moment we left the resort. The spa was a fantastic way to relax after a late night of fun. We spent hours on the beautiful beaches and relaxed at the swim up bars where Ester Williams (one of the girls) performed a "now" famous water performance to a crowd of many. We laughed until we cried. We had the most fantastic service throughout the entire trip. A great decision was to stay in a swim up room where there is more privacy. It was a peaceful pool area to relax where Henry made sure our drinks were always fresh. We topped the trip off with professional photos that made this trip so memorable and we can cherish until we return in three years for another reunion.

This was my second trip from 3 years ago. I have recommended to another family who experienced the same fantastic memorable week. I highly recommend the Valentin if you want to total get away.

Room Tip: Swim up room is more private and worth the value.
