“Hostel with the special personal touch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

Caracol convinced us with a welcoming atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and clean rooms. The location is quite central not far from some bars and restaurants. We also stayed at the proposed coffee farm which was a relaxing and rewarding experience. Caracol is like an oasis compared to the hectic streets of some Colombian cities. Its a great starting point for tours to various natural and cultural highlights. Highly recommended!

I stayed at Hostel Caracol for 3 nights. The staff was extremely friendly and they were available to provide directions/information about the city. The dorm room, the bathrooms, and the kitchen were always clean. The wifi worked fine and the other guests (most them families when I was there) were very respectful and friendly. Another great thing about the hostel is its location. It is conveniently located near Parque Caldas, libraries and museums. I felt pretty safe around that area and walked to the hostel every night. I highly recommend this place.

Worth the price, the entire hostel is really clean and well-spaced out! They have a really good kitchen available for use. Staff were friendly. They have a cafe out front so you wake up to the smell of yummy coffee! Hostel is well-located. Unfortunately we only stayed there for 2 nights, would have liked to stay there longer.

In the heart of the old town this hostel is set in a beautiful old colonial house with a small cafe in front which has GREAT brownies! Kim and Tony are excellent hosts and you will immediately feel right at home. The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen is organized, the bathrooms are clean and the water is hot. What more do you want?? Had a great stay, thanks guys!

This is a great, quiet and very friendly place to stay. The place is very clean, it has nice surprises such as a reading light next to your bed, and the staff are very helpful with information on places to go, not only in Popayan and the immediate area, but other parts of Colombia as well. I really enjoyed my stay here!

Surely one of the best, if not the best, hostel I've stayed at in regards to quality. First and foremost, the hostel has FOUR, count them, FOUR shared bathrooms each with a hot water shower. This, above and beyond anything else, qualifies the hostel for five stars. Friendly staff, tidy dorms, wifi, tv room AWAY from the sleeping rooms, tables, and a coffee bar in the front. That's COFFEE BAR, not a "come get plowed and scream all night" bar that most hostels inflict upon humanity nowadays. Dorms are $10 a night. It's located in the historic center of Popayan... a nice little town to wonder about for a few days. Don't miss the Natural History Museum! Fer-de-Lance baby...Fer-DE-Lance!

By far the best place to stay in Popayan whether long or short term.
Friendly, well organized and very well run.
Great kitchen and comfortable beds.
Shared baths are kept very clean.
I will always go back!
