“Beautiful World”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2008

I traveled around Peru last march and this was by far one of the most beautiful hotels I ever stayed at! Home cooked meals and is always ready for you; it felt like a home away from home. The small group I went with were the only people at the entire hotel the entire time I was there! The rooms were absolutely incredible! It is surrounded by beautiful gardens everywhere. Sheep, dogs, and horses roam around, and if you wander off a bit you'll end up at a small farm with a family. We played a soccer game with the little boy Christian who lived there, while his mother and grandmother were weaving clothes by a river. Everything about this place was like a dream!

We decided to end the last few days of our holiday in a more luxurous hostal with good facilities. We were also attracted to the hiking and horse riding activities. It became a bit of a disappointment. For a 90 dollar hotel and top end hostal we didn´t expect a grumpy staff, cold water and a room above the kitchen with loud music. The horse riding and hiking facilities were limited to a walk/ride around the courtyard. We only stayed one night and moved quickly to an other hotel in Cajamarca.
The rooms are decorated in a nice way, although the bathroom doesn´t meet a top end hotels critera. The 3 dogs on the premises are really sweet. Maybe if you are away on tours all day and if you are lucky the staff wants to make a fire in the dining room at night, it won´t be that bad..

We stayed three nights at Hotel Posada del Puruay in 2004. When we first arrived, they did not have our reservation, but thankfully I had brought the email that confirmed we did have a reservation. They quickly found us a wonderful room and brought our luggage in. We had a large accomodation with an upstairs and downstairs. Downstairs were two twin beds and a bathroom and upstairs was a queen bed and bathroom. We had our two girls (ages 1 & 3) with us and the hotel staff were wonderful with them. We only ate breakfast and one lunch in the restaurant on site. The food was great, but we preferred exploring town.

The property is located in the country about a ten minute taxi ride from downtown cajamarca. But you are rewarded by being surrounded by the beautiful countryside. There were cows on the property next door. On their property were horses and a nice large lawn and play area for the girls. Our girls loved the playgrouond and expecially the little playhouse.

We were in Cajamarca during Carnival so it was wild, but fun (not x-rated). The plaza was packed with lots of celebrations going on. We saw a parade. The town was nice and we enjoyed walking the streets. We did hire a guide to show us around El Cuarto de Rescate, Iglesia Belen, Hospital de Hombres, Hospital de Mujeres who was interesting to listen to even if all his information was not accurate.

Our favorite excursion was to Cumbe Mayo. It was awesome. We enjoyed seeing the local people, where they lived and how they lived. The stone forest was really neat, but the aqueducts were amazing.

We did visit Banos del Inca because my husband's father had been living there before he died, but we were not very impressed and would not visit there again.
