“Excellent Cottage to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

We stay there 3 day and 2 night. 3 meals inclusive during our stay. Cozy and clean room, delicious meals. Kayak and canoe at the back of our cabin, we can just take them to the lake. Nice to go with a group.

Wow what a holiday get away, we had a wonderful cabin set amongst the trees with our deck overlooking the lake which made us feel quite private. The staff on site went out of their way to ensure that we had all that we needed. The food was superb and I would definately recommend the ribs. We had great fun taking the kayak out on the lake and also enjoyed following the trails through the woods. Everything was included from coffee served in the lounge 24 hours a day to the peanuts to feed the very friendly chipmunks. We were lucky enough to see 2 moose and whilst sitting on the deck were rewarded with a passing beaver. Fantastic holiday would highly recommend this to anyone who loves the great outdoors.

We are so happy we chose to stay at the Killarney Lodge for our honeymoon in Algonquin Park. The cabins were cozy and clean. We had a private porch that had a wonderful view of the lake (so beautiful to wake up to each morning). We were also completely spoiled by the delicious and quality meals three times a day. We took full advantage of the provided canoeing gear, and had a great time exploring not only Lake of Two Rivers, but also a lake near by that required a ~1km portage. The owners and staff were extremely helpful and kind; they offered advice on where to canoe, jump started our car, and even arranged for a surprise honeymoon extra for us on our last night there. We had a wonderful time.

Some advice for future travelers:

We did go during bug season, but with some spray, citronella candles, and head netting (for hiking and portages), we were not bothered too much by it, and were able to take advantage of the spring rates and less crowds.

Many reviewers mention the road noise, but with the activity going on in the lodge area, it's not too big of an issue. The only time it was very noticeable was while canoeing on the adjacent Lake of Two Rivers which touches the highway directly. If you want more solitude, we would recommend taking a day trip to paddle/portage to one of the quieter interior lakes. We portaged to Provoking and found it divine.

We are delighted that you were so happy spending your honeymoon here with us. In particular we really appreciate your comments about the staff ... they are the ones who deserve all the credit. You know, our average staff member has been with us for 10-15 years ... all the way up to two of our cooks who have been here for 34 years!!

Thank you as well for including your personal perspectives about:
1) coming during bug season ... "not bothered too much"
2) road noise ... "not too big of an issue" which is most of our guests say too

We'll look forward to seeing you back for 5th anniversary, or maybe even sooner!

Algonquin Park, a glorious public landscape of rocks, woods and water is perhaps the most painted and revered place in eastern Canada. And at the center of it, Killarney Lodge, perched on a narrow spit in the Lake of Two Rivers. The cabins are comfy, the bathrooms better outfitted than many condos and the meals inventive, the dessert sundae s show-stopper. The staff was warm and welcoming, and we out-ran the early season mosquitoes. Grab a paddle. Enjoy the stars. Listen to the wind. We did. Forget the price--do it in the shoulder spring or fall seasons at about half the summer rates. A change is as good as a rest. And this is very different from the world of concrete.

Our fourth visit to this charming Algonquin lodge proved to us we need to visit more often. Cosy log cabins edge a penninsula jutting into one of the Park's major lakes, each cabin with it's own canoe and private rocky shore. Inside, the comfortable pine cabins are furnished tastefully with no telephones or television. Wireless internet is available in it's own cabin. You may spend endless quiet hours at the lounge sampling a large variety of reading material (Times Literary Supplement, Architectural Digest, Canadian Geographic), playing board games or assembling numerous jigsaw puzzles. And of course there is fresh fruit, freshly baked cookies, tea, coffee and cappuccino available - 24 hours a day. The ample 3 meals a day served in the informal dining room, are consistently delicious and offer lots of variety from day to day. The staff - from the wait staff to the cleaning staff to the fellow who helps with canoes while filling the chipmunk peanut bin - were outstandingly polite, friendly and helpful.
With a Provincial Park available at your doorstep, Killarney Lodge is the perfect place to enjoy this stunning part of Ontario.

Room Tip: The vehicular noise is unavoidable and all cabins are beautiful. But you can minimize it by choosing...

We stayed here on their opening weekend for a couple of nights, and had a great retreat from the city. The cabin had obviously been fixed up over the winter, as it still slightly smelled of varnish. We had a shoreline room, which did face the highway. Unlike other reviewers we didn't have an issue with traffic noise, despite sitting out on the porch all days, although perhaps being early in the season there was less cars going on the highway. I could imagine, perhaps, that in the summer if you had the windows open it might be more noticeable. The cabin contained a sitting area, with comfortable seats, although the lighting wasn't positioned the best for reading after dark. The bed, a king size, was comfortable and very appreciated after long days of hiking. A couple of minor issues for me, as someone who's a rather sensitive sleeper - the pillows were rather thick and didn't have too much give, and the covering over the window wasn't the best at keeping the light out early in the morning. Not a big deal either of them, but worth mentioning. For the bathroom, everything worked well, and was very clean.

Regarding the food, some previous reviews have not been too complementary. It's true there aren't a huge number of choices (I think it was 4 main courses for dinner), and it's not 5*, but the portions were large and we were always satisfied. We also did the picnic lunch one day, and again while it wasn't overly fancy (sandwich, juice, apple, granola bar and cookies) we really liked it.

Overall a very enjoyable stay, and a nice break from the city.
