“Commune with the Spirit of The Group of Seven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

From the lake shore you can see one of the windswept pines right out of a Group of Seven painting - this is where they came to paint the 'real' Canadian wilderness 100 years ago. While it is a significant sojourn to get there, spending time at Northern Edge Algonquin is a magical experience that you will never forget. We go there several times a year to attend retreats they hold. They have a wide variety of outdoor trips into the park as well as journeys inwards for the spirit - they have even hosted spiritual events with Tibetan monks and Peruvian shamans.

We love the energy of the area, a chance to swim and kayak Algonquin, as well as the local trails for walking. The warmth and hospitality of the hosts and the people who run NEA make them seem like family. Greg's gourmet meals are sensational, many made with local/seasonal ingredients. The cabins are warm, roomy and very clean. NEA is "off the grid," and they have their own power, but remember to bring a flashlight - except for the moon and stars, it's really dark at night! Leave your cellphone behind, as there is no cell tower nearby. Just you and nature...

Room Tip: All four double-occupancy cabins on the lower level are excellent (and identical). Some are a bit cl...

Walter, We treasure your visits . . . surely as much as you appreciate what we do at the Edge.
Thank you for the kind words and reflections on your stay.

Three of us spent one night in one of the chalets and the next night in the Algonquin Park. I cannot fully express how beautiful we found the surroundings, how comfortable the accomodations were and how wonderful the people are. Simply an incredible time. I will certainly be going back and would recommend this to anyone.

Room Tip: While the chalets are great, if it is at all warm enough I highly recommend a night tenting in the P...

The experience at Northern Edge provides experiences that help focus one's mind while communing with the natural surrounding. The Dreamtime cabin was clean and luxurious while embedded in the woods. There are several highlights:
- watching meteors across the brilliant star lit sky from the dock
- paddling and exploring the lake often frequented by the group of seven artists
- enjoying the healthy, fresh, local, and gourmet creations by the chef

It has been over a week that I have been trying to write this. every time I find myself writing almost a page and I'm not even done talking about "The Edge". OK, I am going to make it simple. You just have to go there and experience it yourself...
Magical place,Magical people and Magical moments.
From the moment you arrive till the moment you leave magic is part of your reality.
Something absolutely magical happens to you. You are immediately part of it all. You feel that you belong, and that is the only place for you to be at that moment.
The beautiful and tranquil wilderness of Algonquin, the great facilities of The Edge, the warmth and hospitality of the hosts and the people who run the place and work there, the chef and the what I like to call, out of this world food...I can go on and on and on...
What I really love about The Edge is that you are not just taking part in some outdoor activities and being in the wilderness. There is a special bond and connection that you feel at all times with the place, the people and what you are doing. There is love, kindness, generosity, mystery, and again magic and more...You see it, smell it, feel it and experience it.
I will be back, I know that for certain.
And by the way, everyone should try Stand up Paddle boarding at the Northern Edge Algonquin. It is an amazing experience. Nothing like being on the board early in the morning on the beautiful Lake Kawavaymog.

Salomeh,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the Edge with others and for helping spread a bit of edginess in the world. We're going to be doing a lot more stand up paddling in 2013!

We experienced a 4-day stay, with 3 days in canoes and tents. The family gave us a warm reception. It was an absolutely fantastic experience. Travelling as a family with 2 kids (13 & 15) they had a blast. We saw a large amount of animals and had great fun. Visitors choosing this experience should make sure they are ready for camping in tents and preparing meals over campfire. If they are, the food prepared by the accompanying guide is the best you will find.

I'd heard lots of great things about the "Edge" but it wasn't until I went there that I truly understood why it's so special. The stunning location, the warm hospitality, the peace & quiet, the incredible cuisine - I didn't want to leave. I loved the outdoor yoga where you could stretch with a breeze blowing over you & the kayaking on the lake watching the ducks & loons swim by. The locally grown food cooked by the chefs was incredible - I couldn't wait to see what the next meal would hold. At night & in the morning you can lie for hours listening to the quiet rustling of the leaves rustling in the wind & the loons calling in the distance. It's a gem that's just a few hours from Toronto. I can't wait to return!

"The Edge" located along the border of Algonquin park is nestled deep within the woods where magic becomes apart of your everyday reality while staying as a guest. It seems as you journey to the Edge facility along the beautiful narrow, nature filled roads that perhaps you are lost..lost in a land that only your wildest storybook dreams could conjour up. Then POOF the Edge facility appears. The magic has just begun !

This 5 star, 4 season facility in my opinion has all you could ever want in a wilderness adventure experience that's off the grid. The Edge is perfect for folks of all outdoor skill levels from novice to professional & boasts great food, attentive & professional staff, amazing scenery, superb nature based, clean & comfortable accomodations, great entertainment via the wildlife as the animals put on theatre grand enough to rival any broadway production.

This is my 4th year back as a guest and I am a "season" ticket holder !.

In short this one of a kind kingdom is a must experience get away that will satisfy every taste. You will leave The Edge feeling rested, relaxed, re-energized & wondering if this dream really ever happened at all. Allow me to PINCH you.. It did.
