“Amazing hotel with fantastic views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013 via mobile

We got married at The Inn on the Lake in August 2013. It was a magical place to get married with the stunning lake and views. The hotel rooms were out of this world a big four poster bed, flat screen television, docking station, views over the lake, armchairs, nice big bathroom with shower and bath. The staff were very helpful and went the extra mile for us. The meal and breakfast were lovely can't wait to go back again would defiantly recommend this hotel

Stopped for Afternoon Tea on a busy Saturday while a wedding reception was in full flow. Very impressed with the decor and furnishings and looked forward to our tea for 5. Having sampled Afternoon Tea in most good Lakes hotels already we knew what was reasonable to expect for £18 pp and we offer the following comments in a constructive way because we were so impressed with everything else about the building particularly the general helpfulness of the staff:

Tea - lots of it and served quickly
Sandwiches - excellent bread, fresh with good standard of varied fillings
cakes - good range and recently baked
scones and cream - Unfortunately, this is where the kitchen staff need to pay more attention. The scones were hard and fairly stale. The cream was a small squirt of what we were assured was not spray from a can. However, when we queried this, the waiter brought us clotted cream (as we always get from other hotels without asking) and this made the scones more palatable.

Whilst the hotel is clearly trying to keep costs down in this small area, this scone/cream issue is such a penny pinching item and spoiled the excellent initial impression we had based on the venue, the staff and all the other aspects of the Afternoon Tea.

Come on Inn on the Lake - for £18 you can quickly produce fresh scones and provide clotted cream, so why don't you?

We had two nights mid week and had a lovely time. As mentioned by others, the hotel is in a spectacular location; we were in room 45 which overlooks the gardens, lake and mountain, the room has a balcony which enhanced the stay for us. Normally we do a lot of walking but on this occassion we spent a lot of time in the hotel just relaxing as it is such a nice place to be in.

The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome, the room was spotless and adequate for two people.

we ate in the restaurant both nights and the service was first class, I am a vegetarian and contacted the hotel beforehand to check how they cater for this, they sent a menu with 3 choices of veggie food but they said it would not be a problem if I wanted something different. My food was lovely and my husband who eats meat said his was faultless. Waiters were efficient and pleasant.
Breakfast is cooked to order but worth it as it was hot and tasty, but also a cold buffet with fresh fruit/cerial etc - all of a good standard.

Would certainly go back as it is a gorgeous location and the hotel is lovely

Room Tip: Worth paying for a lake view as it is fantastic waking up to the most beautiful scenery. Really lif...

The Inn on the Lake is a hotel of two halves. The food is amazing and ten out of ten for every meal. We ate in the dining room twice and the orangery once. The downstairs rooms of the hotel are spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated, lots of large settees and chairs to sink into with a book. However, the Musack was very tiresome. The constant wedding parties made it noisy at times. The gardens are beautiful and go right down to the edge of Ullswater.
However, upstairs is a different story. We had three nights, two nights in a room overlooking the garden and the lake, but could not book this for a third night. Which was lucky. The first room was small and cramped, very hot, and a very uncomfortable bed. I also think it is unhygienic and cheap to have ONE sheet on the mattrass with no undersheet or mattrass cover. There was no top sheet either, although after the first night I asked for one. It was far too hot for a duvet and I do not like sleeping without a sheet over me.The bathroom had recently installed fitments, but there was no indication on any taps as to which was the hot or the cold and I was nearly scalded by the shower. On the third night we had a different room, and this was much larger, cooler, better bed (but only slightly) and a larger bathroom and taps that did indicate hot and cold. I did get a top sheet but had to make the bed up myself.
All in all, the Inn on the Lake is a very nice hotel, but beware that some of the bedrooms are very small.

Room Tip: Ask about the size of the room.

We stayed in room 44 with a lake view and it was amazing. The view from the hotel balcony was stunning, despite a little rain now and then. The room is small, compact, but it is perfectly acceptable for two people and the bathroom was very clean.
We stayed for dinner which was absolutely fantastic, breakfast was also more than adequate. The staff and service was excellent and we would definately stay again.
My only gripe would be with the Ramblers Bar which is situated next to the hotel, but which is still part of Inn on the Lake. We had a very standard bar meal but it arrived cold and this was a let down but we were not going to let it ruin a fab weekend.
Definately recommend room 44.

We stayed here for two nights in early August and the views from the terrace and dining room
were incredible.
We were given room 2 on the ground floor just behind reception - We were told when we booked that this room had "no view" , but the view from the window looking out over the mountains to the rear was spectacular ! We can only assume "no view" meant no view of the Lake.
The evening meal was very nice with impeccable service, and the dessert menu had a good selection.
The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had both a large bath and shower above it.

We were told that a wedding is held there every day of the year , and in the evening the Wedding party take over the "Ramblers Bar" which is a sort of pub within the hotels grounds not far from where our room was located .
There was some noise with people doing the "hokey cokey" round the car park after 11pm , but it soon died down as the wedding guests went back to their rooms.
The Ullswater ferry is only a few minutes walk away , so quite convenient for anyone wanting a round the lake boat trip (approx £26 for two )
Overall we were quite impressed with the Inn on the Lake and we would probably stay there again in the future

Spectacular location with stunning views over the lake. The hotel has been nicely refurbished with the addition of a wonderful orangery. Rooms nicely appointed, huge, comfortable super king size bed - only negatives were the lack of a power shower and very soft pillows.
Ate in the Orangery- lovely food and service. Attentive, friendly staff. Very good selection for breakfast.
Would definitely stay again and recommend it for a special occasion.
