“Fantastic hotel, great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Myself and my wife stayed at this hotel for a two night break. The greeting on arrival was so friendly and helpful, food in the restaurant very high standard which pleased me as I love my food and take an interest in cooking. Staff extremley good, very well trained and look like they really enjoy working there. I spoke to the General Manager who very kindly took the time to sit down with us over a coffee to explain about the Orangery that is being built on the side of the hotel. We were a little worried when we first arrived and saw it but he soon allayed any fears and thankfully he was right and it did not affect our stay. This is clearly a hotel he takes great pride in and we can't wait to return when the work is complete.

Overall a very nice hotel beautifully appointed and views to die for, we will most definitely be back!

The only downside was the amount of building work going on at the hotel. We knew there would be some but the extent was far more than we imagined. To be fair though the noise was minimal and we were not inconvenienced. When the work is finished the hotel will be very special.

On a more positive note found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful.

The upgraded room we received was very pleasant and the food really good. My only minor gripe would be the cost of wine which was a little above what I would normally expect to pay.

In summary this is probably a special hotel in a special location.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the Lake were being refurbished but looked fantastic.

You cannot beat the view from this hotel, with stunning grounds. The communal areas are really nicely done and modern. Our room which had a lake view could have done with a bit of a touch up, but nice bathroom and what with the view it wasn't a big deal. We dined in one night and really enjoyed it, the food was gorgeous. There a definitely deals to be had at this hotel.

We stayed at the Inn on the Lake in January 2013. The room was good with views to die for. The room was just starting to to show a little wear in the bathroom but nothing to make a fuss about. The staff were excellent and the food first rate. If you can get rooms in a sle or a deal this hotel can offer superb value. There are improvements underway at the moment, including an orangery and swimming pool which we certainly intend to return and make use of.

Room Tip: choose a lake view room.

I stayed at the Inn on the lake with my wife for two nights at the end of January on a travelzoo deal which worked out at £75 per person per night dinner bed and breakfast, which it must be said was a bargain given the quality of our room, amazing view from our room and included meals. We booked a lake view superior room with a request for a four poster upgrade if possible, and we upgraded to room 19, one of the two best rooms in the hotel, very spacious, amazing views, four poster bed and a very big modern bathroom with a bath plus walk in shower. All meals were very nice, plenty of choice on the table d'hôte menu that was part of the deal, the second night we upgraded to the al a carte menu for £10 extra per person which made dinner feel a little bit more special although the standard table d'hôte menu is quite sufficient. Coffee included with the meal is served in the bar/lounge which allows you to relax rather than drinking it at your dinner table.
It is hard to criticise this hotel and any negatives are minor, it would benefit from a swimming pool which I believe they have permission to build, the food could be very slightly better to reach perfection.
All the staff were fantastic, the views are amazing, and both myself and my wife were sad to have to check out and would love to return one day. You are doing a brilliant job and deserve the four stars you have, keep up the good work, we would jump at the chance to return one day!

Up to 9.30am on the Friday we hadn't made our mind up as to wether we were going to risk the drive to The In on the Lake at Ullswater in The Lake District as the weather predicted very heavey snow after lunch, but we decided to risk the drive and weather was great considering, a flurry of snow as we neared Cumbria but nothing to bother us. We arrived after noon and the room was ready and what a pleasure it was to see it. Top floor with views down the lake and a balcony to enjoy. Unfortunately the snow started to fall steadily from then on which made us encamp to the lounge and enjoy afternoon tea which was part of the deal, also evening meals were included which was a great bonus as no extra costs incurred. The next morning Saturday was beautiful with a white blanket everywhere and clear blue skies. After breakfast we decided to take the lake cruise that was also included in the weekend and it was worth the slippery walk to the quay and board the launch as there was only another couple brave enough to take the cruise so we had the boat to ourselves, brilliant. So after that we camped again in the lounge for scones and tea and read papers and magazines. All in all a brilliant weekend that nearly didn't happen because of the weather. There is some building work going on at the moment as the hotel is having a new conservatory built to replace the old one, but that didn't bother us as they finished at 3.00pm on Friday and they don't work at weekends. Very enjoyable and look forward to our next stay at The Inn on The Lake Ullswater.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor lake view and if possible with balcony.

Just had 3 nights at this great hotel. Downstairs has all been recently refurbished and looks great. Our room No 47 was lovely, great view from window, big room.Compact en-suite but would rather have a bigger room than large en-suite.All very clean and nicely decorated although it seems it is going to be re-decorated soon. Obviously a hotel that keeps on top of their decor.Building an orangery on at the moment, didn't intervere or spoil our time there. Food was lovely,as was service . Great staff , every single one we came into contact with is a credit to the hotel. Will certainly be going back. Plan next winter is to add a swimming pool and seperate bedrooms and wedding function room, which ill be great for the wedding party and or other guests. First class really can't say enough about this hotel , I like things to be really good and this was. Thanks for a great time.

Room Tip: e saw the balcony rooms on the web site and would have booked one had it been spring/summer. Really...
