“Pleasant, if overpriced, Lake District hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012 via mobile

The beautiful surroundings of this Best Western hotel are likely what they justify the premium prices of these room which are fairly basic and not far above your bog standard Premier Inn. However the hotel has added value by its friendly staff, heated pool and sauna and above average breakfast. I can't comment on the dinner at the restaurant as we were too late eat (last orders are at 9pm which was a little unusual). We were instead told that the pub beneath the hotel took orders until 9:30pm.
This pub does a real disservice to the hotel: it was full of mainly locals who clearly come to watch the sport on the hideous overhead projector which dominates the room and ruins any 'tradtional' pub atmosphere. The food served was fine and enhanced by tasty puddings, although I was told the local ale wasn't very good.
It would benefit the hotel if it could separate entirety from the pub so to avoid any negative association. We would have liked to have tried the main restaurant as judging by the breakfast it would have been of good quality.
Finally in regard to their dog friendly policy, it I'd true that they were very tolerant of our canine companion but the £10 extra charge was the highest of its sort we'd ever experienced. Amenities in the room were as you'd expect and there was plenty of free parking. The proximity to the stunning Ullswater lake really is he selling point I must emphasise.

Myself, my husband and my daughter stayed at this hotel in August 2012. I had read most of the reviews both good and bad and decided to book as it was right next to the lake where my husband was doing a triathlon and I thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt. Suffice to say that my experience is too long with too much detail to write about so I apologise for that to any readers HOWEVER I would say the following, the hotel is lovely, the view is amazing and the staff and food are top notch EXCEPT that if your booking doesn't quite go to plan which ours didn't then don't expect that you'll be treated in a dignified fashion. Whilst efforts were made to right our issues which did indeed make our stay much more comfortable the 'attitude' from the GM was certainly exactly as described in the other reviews you read on this page and frankly as it transpires that she is the owners daughter this pretty much explains it all. As I learnt to my peril with Best Western when you book with them always ring the hotel direct to pass on any special requests or information as the communication channel doesn't work or at least it didn't in our case. There is a common theme amongst the poor reviews on this hotel, that in itself speaks volumes, venture to this hotel with no expectations and with any luck you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: Always ring the hotel and ask for a lake view and a quiet room as there are several rooms that are d...

The Best Western Glenridding is a good relaxing hotel, our room was really comfortable with an excellent view of Ullswater lake. The food was excellent with a good choice both for breakfast and the evening meal. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it and hope to return next year.

Room Tip: Cannot comment on Fitness Centre or Spa as we didn't use them.

We stayed here for 2 nights ,24/25 August 2012. We found the hotel was very nice and in a great location next to lake Ullswater. It was very convenient for the steamer.Ours was a superior double room and was ok, very quiet overlooking the river. The hotel has a swimming pool ,jaccuzi, sauna and a nice quiet library. The lounges and reception areas are nice and comfortable. The only thing we did not like was the fact that they seem to let non residents into The Rafters bar,Whilst we were there a stag party arrived and the majority were drunk, needless to say the police were called and this spoiled our stay somewhat

Room Tip: superior rooms are fine ,very quiet , it was called The Rattlebeck

We stayed at the Glenridding from 24th-27th August 2012 to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary, lovely hotel, stunning views and excellent facilities. Room was adequate, towels really nice (BIG!!) Good choice for food with 2 Restaurants and the bar. Ullswater lake is a short walk away with the Steamers available for trips and also various different walks around the lake.
Would throughly recommend this hotel for a break in the Lake District. We had a lovely long weekend and would return.

Room Tip: Back of the hotel looks out over the lake.

We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel and loved it. It is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in and the setting is stunning. It is ideally situated to explore Ullswater. The steamers are only a short walk away and the information centre is also very near. Keswick is close too- about 40 minutes drive away.
Our room was on the second floor and had beautiful views of the lake. The bedroom was spacious, clean, tastefully decorated and the en suite was also a good size, very clean and finished to a high standard. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was outstanding in the restaurant, bar and the coffee shop. The restaurant/bar staff were all excellent -very hard working, polite and helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
The pool and sauna area was not large but clean and pleasant.
We found it to be a very well cared for hotel with high standards and we hope to return in the future.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have stunning views of the lake.
