“A well named hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

This is a fantastic hotel on the sea front at Port Soller, with great views and a chilled atmosphere.

The food is good, the rooms are modern and practical (and with great views if you are in one at the front of the hotel) and service is excellent. It is in the middle of the bay at P. Soller, so a short walk into either of the parts of town. The road in front of the hotel between it and the sea is mostly for pedestrian traffic although the tram goes past regularly so you have to be careful with young kids (although they love watching it, which you can from the breakfast terrace).
Unfortunately the bit of beach in front of the hotel is stones and this is where the hotel has sunbeds and towels etc, although it is a couple of minutes walk to a sandy area.

We visited as a family, but I imagine it would work pretty well for couples wanting a quiet and relaxing time, as there is an adults only pool and breakfast area. I would visit again, but more likely for a short break than a 2 week holiday.

Had five fantastic days here in June. They really got everything right. Comfortable, helpful and great location. The restaurant was stunning. When I was there me and my friend were the only two eating. I think it was because it had recently opened. Food was impressive, the house rose delicious but the sunset was incredible! If your not keen on having kids running around then head straight for the private hotel beach where you can order drinks and snack while checking out the array of yachts in the harbour. I had a great massage in the spa. Want to go back immediately!

Room Tip: To save money don't get a sea view or balcony room. Just use the communal balcony out the front...

We stayed at Hotel Esplendido for 10 nights, and loved every minute (despite a few days of cloud and rain!).

It's Swedish so very cool and designer but still great for families - children ages from 0-10 probably best.

There's two pools, one with a special shallow area for younger kids. And there's another infinity pool right at the top, which is adults only. Adults without kids can also have breakfast without children around, if they like, too.

The staff are brilliant, helpful and friendly - and all dressed in white.

Puerto de Soller is a beautiful and lovely harbourwith a very long beach. You can borrow lilos and sit on loungers on the hotel's private beach. But there's better sandier beaches either side. Go to the end beach near Café Bar Es Reco for the best family beach - also recommend that café for cheaper meals. That beach stays shallow enough for younger kids to wade out without getting too deep too soon.

The hotel Bistro offers good value lunches and dinners. The free breakfast buffet is amazingly good.

If you don't travel with kids I'd probably avoid in the school holidays, although you can get away from them in most parts of the hotel.

The Spa and gym area is great, too.

We had a Sea View terrace, which had a great balcony with chairs and table, plus and deckchairs.

The hotel also has arguably the best view of all the town's hotels, and wonderful sunsets.

Catch the little tram to the nearby town of Sóller. It's not cheap at €5 each way, though. You can catch a wooden train to Palma, which takes about an hour. Leave early, though to get enough time in Palma. You'll be pining for the hotel pool anyway.

There's a boat trip to Calobra beach, which is nice. We thought it would be too crowded but was fine, and a lovely cove. Cost is around €25 return per adult.

You can also hire your own little boat to cruise around in.

Best places to eat: El Pirato for modern tapas; Es Reco for cheap eats and drinks on the beach; and Randemar for cool outside seating and atmosphere. Plus the hotel's own bistro.

Room Tip: If you can afford it try the Sea View terrace on either level 2 or 3. Level 2 has the Spa and Gym.

Great hotel - didn't want to leave! Lovely pool for adults, amazing views, nice day spa and seriously good restaurant. I would say that the restaurant at the hotel was the best restaurant in town. Nothing was too difficult for the hotel staff, who were informative, friendly and efficient. The Scandinavian design aspects were cool. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious, clean and had everything you needed. I would recommend getting a room overlooking the beach as the view is awesome. The only minor negative comment I have is that the wifi access up near the adults pool wasn't great. That said, I'd definitely stay here again and at any of Esplendido's associated hotels. 4 nights wasn't enough!

Lovely hotel with great views, recommend the burger for lunch.

The only down side is the pebbley beach in front of the hotel, but there is a sandy beach to the right or left.

The spa with the indoor pool is lovely, and the adults only pool right at the top is lovely if you want some peace and relaxation.

This is how a hotel should be. It's just brilliant. I love Scandinavian design anyway- so big bonus for me. I would happily have the room we stayed in as my bedroom at home! The hotel had a very good layout, loads of different areas to sit, different lounge areas, iMacs, excellent food, but i was most impressed with the little touches and it's these that make a hotel experience totally unforgettable. I just thought they got it all spot on.

I particularly loved:
- adults-only areas (infinity pool, and one of the breakfast rooms)
- free welcome drinks vouchers for the bar
- right on the beach, with free sun loungers, towels, and a box full of kids toys and lilos
- mini-bar in the room, not filled with overpriced alcohol to purchase, but 4 bottles of water and 2 bottles of beer, all complimentary, and it got restocked
- huge Sony Bravia TV in the room, with surround sound speakers. Perfect for watching a DVD from huge DVD library
- a lounge area that has in it a turntable and shelves of vinyl! Not my thing but the boyfriend could not contain himself!

You must visit this hotel, and Port de Soller is gorgeous. Forgot to mention that bit!

Just back from 4th year at the Esplendido, and we've already booked for 2013.
It's difficult to explain just why the Esplendido is so special. But it is.
The sensational breakfast (I can't imagine you will find better - especially the always smiley lady who made my perfectly poached eggs every morning). The wonderful pool with an area for little ones - and a dedicated adult infinity pool. The gorgeous rooms. The superb views over the bay. The trams passing the cocktail bar. The helpful and cheerful staff. The food. The drink.
I never thought I'd become someone who returned to the same hotel again and again - but when you find somewhere so special, it's difficult not to keep going back.
