“Las Velas Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Traveling as two adults and two children (two and five years old respectively) arriving on a Thursday lunchtime mid June and staying for seven nights. The complex is made up of three main apartment buildings, Atlanta, Carabela and Bergantin. Reception, Internet access, one bedroom apartments (small balconies) over two floors with a central enclosed courtyard and outdoor swimming pool are all located at the Bergantin. We were located in the Carabela which is the twin of the Atlanta and located side by side with two bedroom accommodation over four floors with the upper floor being private roof terraces for the top three flats (accessed via spiral staircase from balcony) in both apartment buildings (very nice and unexpected and they really are private with sun beds, table and six chairs plus purpose built BBQ with views of the mountains and resort with the walls high enough to prevent the kids from nose diving, we stayed in apartment 17. Good pool located to the front with small baby pool with nice shallow end, the other pool is deeper and not so shallow and not ideal for young children. Sun beds and small children's playground were all clean, tidy, well maintained and very relaxed and we never saw a reserved sun bed once during our stay! Excellent accommodation, rooms serviced 5 days out of the 7 by extremely friendly and helpful staff, in fact one of the cleanest apartments we've stayed in but I did know of one or two people who had an issue with ants but we ourselves didn't. Parking for hire car right by reception, spaces for say eight cars and reception organised the car and did all the talking, proved cheaper than hiring direct (when you talk the language you get a better deal). Las Velas is located 20 minutes from the beach, 30 minutes from the main area of restaurants, 10 minutes from a tourist supermarket, 25 minutes from a Euroski supermarket (please note we go kids pace which is far slower than adult speed), if anything I'd say it was right on the limit of how far we wanted to walk with two young children in tow but this did mean we were far enough outside the resort to add a certain air of relaxed peacefulness to the whole complex, also worth noting we stayed self catering and no restaurant/bar exists on site (2 coin operating vending machines dispensing cold drinks including beer and a confectionary version with crisps, chocolate etc are located under the veranda of the reception building) but all residents get use of the Pollensa Park Hotel (10minutes walk) which is where you eat if your all inclusive, can't comment as we never used it. Our apartment had a 4 ring electric hob (1 bedroom apartments have a 2 ring set up and smaller kitchenette), decent fridge with small freezer section, microwave, toaster, kettle, iron and ironing board, tv with one English channel (BBC 1), all the necessary plates etc and air conditioning to the main room and hair dryer in the bathroom. Excellent range of restaurants within the resort and a beautiful old Spanish town square (best restaurant we experienced throughout our entire stay was called the 'Centric' and is located just by the old square itself, fusion food extremely well prepared and very tasty), you will be spoiled for choice and we didn't encounter a bad meal throughout our stay, can be pricey, three course meal for four adults and two children including moderate drinks can range from €150 to €200 including tip so ideal we could BBQ on the roof terrace. All in all if you want a relaxed venue in a decent location then you won't be disappointed. Would we stay again, yes we would and plan to return next year to finish of exploring this part of the island.

Room Tip: If you can grab a bus or hire a car go to the 'old' town of Alcudia, (10 minutes in a car bu...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Just returned from a seven night stay at the lovely Las Velas Apartments.
Situated around a km from town centre next to a road, these apartments are close enough to the beach and amentites but away from built up areas. The road noise wasn't noticable and the walk to town was a pleasant stroll along the front.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, towels were changed whenever you needed and everywhere was spotlessly clean.
There are two excellent pools. One of which is a children's pool with a small paddling pool and another in a pleasant, grassy area which is deeper and more suitable for swimming.
A small play area was fab for the kids to play in.
We stayed in a two bedroomed apartment for six people on the ground floor. There were two single beds in each bedroom and an extra bed was provided in the living area. The sofa was also suitable to sleep on. We moved the extra bed into one of the the bedrooms so our two toddlers could sleep with mum and dad and grandma and grandad had a room to themselves.
Every window had lockable shutters and the kitchen was well stocked with crockery, an oven/microwave, a very modern electric hob, a fridge/freezer, toaster and ironing equipment. There were two sets of French Doors opening onto a quiet grassed area at the rear and onto the beautiful, children's pool area at the front.
It was always quiet and peaceful, (apart from our 2 year old's tantrums) with plenty of sunbeds and quite often we had the pool to ourselves.
The reception closes around 4.00pm which could be a problem if arriving later but the sister Pollensa Park Hotel, which is along the road, is available for late check in. The many amentities in the hotel were free to use and our kids enjoyed the playpark, and kids disco in the evenings. There was also a cash machine which proved very handy.
Due to a problem with drainage underneath our living room floor, we were asked to sleep in another apartment on the top floor for one night. This was also a really nice apartment with a spiral staircase leading to a very private rooftop patio with sunbeds and a barbecue. Not really suitable for small children but great for groups of friends or couples. There were also some minor improvements being carried out but this was all dealt with efficiently and smoothly and we were back in our own place first thing the next morning. We were given a complimentary evening meal in the hotel as compensation.
The only grumble was that the matresses, although brand new, were very hard.

Altogether a brilliant holiday and we would definitley return.

Room Tip: It would be advisable to request a room on the ground floor with young children although some famili...

Lovely clean apartments, ask for a top floor apartment like we had & you get your own private roof terrace with sun loungers, BBQ and table + chairs. Would definately recommend. Only thing is if you arrive after 4pm like we did the reception is closed. Thomas Cook weren't great either, when we arrived at the apartments and got off the coach they never told us this & just left us there with no receptionist & no idea where to get our keys from. After wandering around the site in the dark we finally found a small sign saying if reception closed to contact the Pollensa Park hotel across the road about 400 metres away. So we had to leave my elderly father with the luggage while we went to get the keys from the hotel. Thomas Cook seem to just ignore their customers who stay at Las Velas as we saw no sign of any rep after this.

Room Tip: Top floor with private roof terrace

Stayed here May 2012 with husband and little girl.
Big spacious 2 bed apartment, due to reading other reviews about ants I kept floor clean from food and never had any problems with them. 5 minute walk to beach and 10/15 minute walk to big supermarket. We used both pools which were kept nice and clean. Would stay here again!

stayed here in August 2012 in 1 bedroom apartment directly above reception with a view of the main road. Balcony overgrown with foliage. Beds comfortable apartment clean and spacious. let down by distance from beach , walk felt like it took forever in heat. unfortunately the garden area had a problem with ants but pool was excellent never busy despite in height of season. A shame about lack of bar in the complex. Overall good value.

I have been coming to las velas for 10 years now and have never had a bad stay. Friendly receptionists and a very welcoming feel. In the early days there was no main road outside which made it very secluded but even now when in the complex the road is quiet and hidden (almost none existant). beautiful place and near the shops and the sea. 1 negative is that the reception used to be open longer and sell icecreams, bread and water. Would love it to go back to how it was before!

Room Tip: I have stayed in most of the rooms and Ground floor rooms are my favourite as its easy to go in and...

Stayed 11nts from 19th August. Booked independenty and this was considerably cheaper than a package.Had a 2 bed apartment for a family of 4, apt.was spacious, clean and great value- cost £545.00 for 11nts.As stated previously a lot of ants, but as in middle of heatwave so could not complain, plenty of sprays supplied. Top tip to spray legs of beds and bases of units and that does the trick.
With only 26 apartments and 2 swimming pools there was always plenty of space and you never felt overcrowded. Puerto Pollensa has great beaches, nearest 5 minute walk, but all the best eateries are in the square in centre of town a good 20 minute walk, with the heat seemed to take longer.Still taxi back only 5 euros !
Would recommend for a quieter holiday if you do not mind being slightly out of town, also if staying for more than a week best to hire a car. We booked a car for 4 days in middle of our break, and booking through Holiday Autos in advance saved £50.00 than booking when in resort.
