“Great for a short break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

We stayed one night over the weekend and enjoyed the hotel. We had a small problem checking in, but it was resolved by the staff, without any problem. We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful.
The hotel and room were very clean and everything worked as it should.
The pool area was clean and staff serving pleasant and helpful.
Although the hotel is a little way from the town of Nafplio, we didn't see it as a problem and went to the town at night.
We didn't try the restaurant but breakfast was fine. There were two areas serving breakfast - the restaurant and cafeteria - we were directed to the cafeteria and whilst the choice of food was good, the juices need to be chilled and the cooked food kept warm - this didn't seem to be a problem in the restaurant side where a similar buffet was being served. A toaster would have been helpful in the cafeteria area too.
All in all - a nice hotel experience and we would return if we were heading down to that area again.

It is a four star hotel where we found, more or less what we expected for this price range.
Nice environment, friendly hard working people, basic amenities.
No life guard by the pool :-(
Small rooms, comfortable bathrooms.
Old premises that sometime shows despite the renovations.
Very avaredge quality of food.. Acceptable but not great.
We had good time thanks to the hard working and friendly staff.
We may well choose it again if we return at the area.

Stayed one night on way back to Athens from Peloponnese. Definitely need a car, but if you have one you get peace and quiet and a good open-air pool — different from the average Nafplio hotel. Breakfast was fine; room clean and comfortable. No wi-fi in room, but OK in reception; can't vouch for how it would be with a full house.

The rooms are very spacious, clean and so on, great bathroom, breakfast is more than fine, there is a pool and the lovely town of Nafplio is a short drive away.
Great for a long-weekend for a couple, possibly great with kids too but haven't tried it.

Amalia hotel is situated a couple of km outside the picturesque and must visit city of Nafplion in a very nice peaceful and green location .The main building and the rooms are spacious and nice BUT there 2 important weaknesses for its price and category namely breakfast quality/choice and internet coverage. If you claim to be a 4 star hotel you can't afford to provide wi-fi only to the main lobby area ( and even there not really good connection, you could check your email relatively fast but if there was an attached PDF you could spend easily 10min to download it) . If you claim to be a 4 star hotel in Greece , in the middle of the summer you can't afford to yourself to present to your guests almost no fresh fruits!!! Just a very pale watermelon amongst some very pale small croissants and bread . Eggs despite being in the "hot plate " we're cold and in general the breakfast buffet was totally uninviting that made me to skip it the second day. The irony is that the road leading to the hotel is full of kiosks selling fresh fruit...
His strongest point is ,also like its Athens brother , its staff!!! Friendly with a smile in their faces always ready to assist you or to give any information is requested.

I booked this hotel for a 2 day getaway with wife without kids. Was looking for a quality place with elegance and good service to get some pampering.

What I got!? Disappointment!
Staff:
Apart from the lower level employees that were very kind, the executives acted very "superior" with major lack in service. Hardly smiled but that was not my problem. They just don't go that extra mile they promise.

Facilities:
A restored old hotel. Several corners are still at their old deserted condition( see images). The rest is qualitatively poorly made trying to look royal. Ok I am not buying the place, but I did not get what I saw on their website!

Food: morning buffet was quite good! Coffee (espresso, cappuccino) is terrible. The rest was fine! Choose the right hall as you go down the stairs. Has smaller tables and is quiet.
Very disappointed not to have seen a restaurant again as depicted on the website. Pool bar food is good but pricey. I say it's good.

Room:
Again, not quite there. Quiet and very comfy pillows. Mattress medium hard and quite the selection of blankets. Website claimed Egyptian cotton. Not sure. Bath very dirty with black dirt between tiles. Overall quality of a 2 star hotel.

Cleanness:
2/5 hallways n staircase had hair and stuff flying around the corners. Elevator had spew marks of god knows what. Room n sheet was ok but bathroom not.

Pool area:
Water is clean and not too much chlorine in it. Furniture very good and service excellent. A log of wasps were blocking the pool stairs. Nobody of the management seemed to see it as an issue. Clean towels provided.

All images are of things that made me a bad impression. The good stuff is already provided by the hotel.
Enjoy Nafplion!

This is a nice and clean hotel away from the crowd but close to Nafplion and within easy reach of Mycenae and Epidauros. Less than two hours from Sparta and (more importantly) the Byzantine city of Mystras (close to Sparta). My wife and me had a double room and our grown up children had a triple room. All standard rooms (there are also more expensive superior rooms we did not see).
The rooms are a good size, with a queen size bed in our room and good sized single beds in the triple room (three identical beds rather than the "additional" smaller bed some hotels like to use).
There is a nice pool with plenty of space, a cosy sitting room with a piano with a pianist every evening. There is a big green garden and a spacious parking lot.
Staff are very friendly. Drinks from the minibar or from the pool bar are not too expensive (a small jug of wine - two glasses - is 4 EUR).
Still, I Am lacking some features that would make this an excellent four star hotel (which it claims to be). For starters I had reserved a double room but was given on arrival a twin bedded room. They changed it when I complained but the reason given was that 90% of the rooms are twin bedded. There were no explanations about the hotel services in the rooms. There is no room service. There are no coffee or tea making amenities in the rooms. The bathroom is spacious but there is no separate shower. Breakfast is until 10 am even at the weekend and the buffet is rather uninspired. The seat cushions in the breakfast/dining room looked dirty (they are probably clean but simply look dirty). There is a wired internet connection in the room (very slow) but wireless is only available in the lobby (internet is free though). The internet connection is not able to cope with all of the guests having smartphones etc so it may take a while before you can connect.
There is no AC in the public areas which in July makes it uncomfortable to sit in the lounge for a longer while.
There is no fitness club.
Also be aware that when we visited in July there were a lot of groups stopping there overnight causing a crowded pool full of yelling children after five. There is no life guard and the pool closes at 8 PM.
If you are not there as part of a group you will need a car. Nauplion is about 3 km away.
Would I stay there again? Probably, as it is not too expensive and clean and may be the best hotel of its sort in Nauplion. But it is definitely not a four star hotel in my book.

Room Tip: If you want a double bed insist through a message before you arrive or you will not get one.
