“Friendly place to stay in Schönwald”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

I stayed 6 nights in hotel Adlerschanze in June/July 2012.

This is a small family run establishment, that feels more like a pension than a hotel, in a positive sense.

The hosts are friendly and welcoming and take an interest in their guests and like to talk.
(At least if you manage some German. I never tried English.)

They know all about the area, and come with a lot of suggestions (unasked) for what to see and where to go.

On arrival, they gave me a walking map, quite a good one, with good walking and biking tour descriptions on the back side.

The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the bus stop in the village center, up a short but very steep hill.
Also about 5 - 15 minutes from the shops and restaurants (there are some, but not that many in Schönwald).
It is a little off the main road, which makes it quiet.

My room was a double room, well appointed, comfortable, and rather large with a balcony. Decorated in a folkloristic style with
furniture painted with flowers in the local style. Big wardrobe with enough shelfs and hangers, hooks on the wall, a little chair and table, but no desk, and no easychair.
Large enough to turn around, even for 2 people I think.
The bathroom, shower only, was good, clean, and functional, with space to put your things, but not very large.

The hotel has free WLAN, that worked well in the ground floor, but not in my room, but it might work better in other rooms.

The buffet breakfast is excellent with a large selection of breads, meats, cheeses, jams, musli, fruit, eggs, etc.

The village of Schönwald, is on the hillside, which is part meadows and part pine forest. There are lots of different
walking trails from the village, and cycling and skiing tracks as well. The walking trails are varied, through meadows, and forest.
Also there are relatively frequent bus / train connections to other villages / towns in the surrounding
area. Thus it's a good touring base, even if you're travelling on public transport.
However, the end of June seems to be a bit of low season in Schönwald.

Enjoyed our stay in our quiet room with a balcony and a sitting room. Good breakfast and wonderful hosts! Bed was very comfortable. Hotel is off the main road and extremely quiet. Room 19 was extremely quiet. The bathroom was very small but the shower was hot and strong! Enjoyed our stay here.

Room Tip: Room 19 is very quiet with a private balcony and a sitting area.

This hotel was great. The room was nice and big, with a balcony. The location was beautiful and close to the Triberg Waterfall. Best of all was the lovely couple who run the hotel, they were so friendly and welcoming! this hotel is really great!
