We booked this hotel as a last minute deal with Thomson, thereby saving nearly £300 off the brochure price. On our arrival we were informed that we had been upgraded and had a beautifully spacious room with balcony overlooking the mountains.
As previous reviewers have indicated, the selection and amount of food cannot be faulted. There was an extensive breakfast buffet - both hot and cold; breakfast was served between 7.30 and 10.30. There was always plenty available with the very best selection first thing. We were half board and surprised by the range of food available freely in the bar between 1 and 4 pm: soup, salad buffet; bread, cheese, hot meal (pasta, nuggets etc) and cake. Evening meal was 5 courses including salad buffet. There was a choice for each course and 5 separate main course options. Twice we had a dessert buffet (choice of around 30 desserts!) and once a starter buffet which was outstanding. The portions of the waiter-served courses were fairly small which meant that we could easily manage the 5 courses. The cream soups were always excellent; main courses and starters were generally good and sometimes very good.
One of the highlights for us was the spa/pool facilities. The hotel was almost full during our stay and whilst the pools (indoor and outdoor) were quite well used, they were never crowded. The sauans (2) and steam rooms (2), however, were almost always deserted despite being of the highest standard, so we often had them almost entirely to ourselves.
Unlike other reviewers we found the guests to be of mixed ages including family groups, young couples like ourselves and large parties.
The staff were all courteous, efficient and pleasant without being the most chatty, although this is not something which bothered us. The hotel runs its own extensive programme of activities -guided walks etc (we didn't sample these) and offers free use of bikes (which we did). The bar is a lovely spacious and comfortable area; the evening music is probably geared towards an older clientele.
The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the village centre, but as it is not on a main thoroughfare is probably quieter at night than some others.
This was a wonderful stay; we would thoroughly recommend the hotel to others and felt it offered excellent value for a four star hotel.
