“Pleasant Stay in Attractive Area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2011

Located at end of main street close to Seefeld tourist office , rail and bus station, bars etc. Couldn't be better located. Bedroom was big enough but pillows lacking any support. Beds okay - two singles pushed together. Bathroom was one of those moulded plastic affairs and was very very small but at the price we paid quite adequate for the week. Staff pleasant and we were happy with the food at breakfast and in the evening. Cost of House wine and beer at Batzenhausl pretty much the same as the rest of the area 25cl wine and 50cl beer about 3.2 euros. The premises seemed to be quite popular with non residents during day and evening.

A little about the resort - I've been to Seefeld many times, I learnt to ski here and now I come as my second, more relaxing, ski holiday every year. If you do a package you'll probably fly to Innsbruck which is a 25 min transfer. We came independently and weren't staying a whole week so travelled into Munich as there's a much better, cheaper choice of flights and airlines. The drive from Munich to Seefeld took approx 2 hrs and is a beautiful drive through the mountains and German ski resorts. Although there had been about 15cm of snow that day the roads were totally cleared and easy to drive on (much better than Uk roads when we have 2cm of snow!) Seefeld itself is a beautiful town with a small pedestrianized centre, some lovely shops and 2 Spar supermarkets. The prices on and off mountain are no more expensive than at home. We were there over New Year and the slopes weren't that busy and the longest lift queue was about 10 people! We had a little snow most days and the pistes were always kept in excellent condition. The nursery slopes are in the village, walking distance from all hotels. They have a carpet lift, tow rope and 2 t-bars. It's the perfect place to learn to ski and the Ski-School Seefeld are amazing. From the nursery slopes try the Cafe Ahmed for lunch, its by the main bus stop, ski school and chemist. Excellent pizzas, soups, snacks etc at very reasonable prices. There are free ski buses every 15 mins that take you to the 2 other ski areas. These are full of blue and red runs. Please note that the piste maps in all brochures are quite out of date and there are at least 3 chair lifts and several runs that are not shown on any of them! The lift pass, The Happy Ski Card also covers some other resorts inc Garmish, Lermoos and Erwald. These are all about an hours drive and worth a visit.
The Hotel - We stayed here as the other hotels required a weeks stay over New Year and we wanted to stay 5 nights. We were met by the owner at 10.30pm and he was really helpful and happy, carrying boot bags etc for us. This is part of a family run chain of hotels and the free parking is at one of the other hotels a 5 minute walk away which was fine with us. Its good to stretch your legs before and after skiing! You can park at the Olympia centre directly in front of the hotel but you must pay for this. This hotel has a great position at the end of the pedestrian area between the town centre and the dome church by the olympia centre ( a 1 min walk to either). A 5 minute walk to the nursery slopes or the Gschwandtkopf slopes and ski bus stop is 50m away. This is very much an Austrian hotel but most staff speak reasonable English. The breakfast was a typical buffet, cereals, breads, hams, cheeses, fruit, hot bacon, sausages and eggs. Evening meal was again typical Austrian food. 3 or 4 courses with a choice of main. Lots of meats, potatoes and veg. Very good desserts! We were allocated a table in the public restaurant so you have a mixture of hotel guests and general public eating around you. Drinks seemed to be wine, beer or soft drinks, the only spirits were shots of schnapps! The room was simple, clean, lots of wood, we paid a small supplement for a larger room and it was huge with a large table and seating area. Beds were really comfortable. The bathroom was on the small side but had a fabulous corner power shower.
Overall i would stay here again as its a fab 3* hotel in a great location and i like being in a very Austrian guesthouse. Just don't expect to be surrounded by english people!

Stayed in an under rated guest house previously on Trip Advisor but came away with a good experience for very reasonable money. The bad side was the size of the rooms but we had a balcony which made it feel more spacious.
We booked through Crystal but when we return will go direct because the daily rates for half board are very reasonable.
The food was Austrian of limited choice but good with 4 courses, salad bar, soup, main ,sweet , served in a friendly manner and reasonable local wine at 7 euros for half a litre served at the table.
Michael the manager is very friendly and speaks the best English. The guesthouse is part of the Kalschmid group who own 7 hotels in Seefeld and as part of the package, you can use the swimming facilities etc at the upmarket Hotel Kalschmid and the 5 star Alpenpark.
The hotel is a guesthouse so has no leisure facilities of its own and comprises a restaurant and bar downstairs but not noisy at all .

It is situated on the edge of the main street/town and is opposite the Olympic Centre swimming etc with great views, handy for town but not near the noisy parts.

Going back to the prices , the daily half board rate for the summer is in the region of 40-43 euros each per day depending on your room, whilst winter prices are from 60 to 75 euros. A ski lift is only five minutes walk away.

We had great walks from the hotel and it is situated on the right end of town for the main walking routes number 4 and 2 which head out to the south--see local walking guides.

The Gasthof Batzenhausl is everything you would expect from a 3 star accomodation within Austria.
The accomodation was small but clean and thats pretty much all you need, as your not likely to spend much time there with seefeld being such a busy and lovely place! We had room 104 which was pretty tiny, but weren't that fussed.
The main hostess was extremely helpful and managed to help us with any problems, despite her english not being perfect.
Hotel was set in a lovely location, not far from the main olympia sports area and the green meadows with the main church in. Has a nice view of the mountains too!
Meals were good for a 3 star, lovely tea, four course (salad, starter, main and dessert) i found i missed hot things for breakfast though like toast and cooked food. But other than that there was a nice selection.
Within the hotel there was a nice bar area with lots of outdoor seating, i can imagine it would get quite busy in the main tourist months, was quiet when we were there though.
The main hotel of the chain the Kaltschmid Hotel where the swimming pool is, is a beautiful hotel and the pool/jacuzzi/sauna/steamrooms were fantastic.
Seefeld is a fantastic resort with so much to do, would recommend buying some nuts and feeding the red squirrels and the birds on the path around the lake, they are so tame!
Fantastic holiday had overall.

Small hotel in a lovely position just outside town. Pleasnat dining room, friendly helpful staff ) not very good English)
No cooked breakfast but delicious varied, rolls, bread and usual cereals, fruit, ham, cheese etc. Nice to have fresh orange juice too.

4 course evening meals were excellent, fresh food well cooked and prepared. Choice of 3 main meals. Varied entree and deserts.

Main fault wasVERY tiny room - had to turn sideways tp get around to bottom of bed ducking at same time to avoid hitting head on TV in corner - and i'm short. But i didn't go to Austria to spend time in hotel room. Avoid room 105!
Sister hotels have excellent facilities. Swimming complex just over road

Trip up Rosschute (funicular + 2 cable cars)- all in ticket 16 Euro includes cake and drink of choice. If you walk down from restaurant you're allowed another drink and pass the most beautiful little lake

Seefeld is a beautiful village with plenty to do.

Strange place - the main restaurant has live music, great food, friendly staff and appears really cosy and well run.

If you stay half board at the hotel though, you are put in a silent side room with surly staff! Food is simple and typical for the Tirol - we found it OK for a change, but others were complaining. Although not offered, you can ask for your choice of eggs at breakfast.

The small doubles at the front without a balcony are absolutely tiny and should only be singles - pay the extra and get a different room (unless you go when the resort is full and you have no choice like we did...!); better still, choose a different hotel where the experience doesn't depend on which side of the building you are sitting in. There are far better hotels for the same money (eg the Central).
