“clean, good facilities but management biased and not quite honest”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

We booked a Swiss Cottage for 1 night stay. The cottage was clean and well-maintained. The whole resort is also quite well-maintained. Betwa river flows just in front of the river, so viewing sunrise and sunset was not an issue, However management wasn't quite helpful and they were clearly biased towards foreigners. We had to wait almost 1 hour after ordering lunch for the food to arrive as the waiters were busy serving group of foreigners and totally ignoring us (and all other Indian tourists). After the lunch experience were ordered dinner 2 hours early but still had to follow-up 3 times before we got some food. Also, they cheated on the lunch bill (charged more than the menu card price) and refunded only after we noticed the discrepancy during dinner and pointed it to the manager. Then there was supposedly a cultural dance program free of cost that runs between 7pm-10pm. But when we arrived at the rooftop at 8:30pm, the dancers stopped performing. When inquired, the Manager lied that the dancers are just taking a break and will resume their performance soon but they never did. Moreover, the breakfast was included in the boarding price but we were never informed (it was not mentioned in the online booking slip). We got to know about the free breakfast only from fellow inmates but by that time most of the items were finished. Lastly we clearly saw how some inmates were getting discounts in their final bills by bargaining and bribing the manager.
On the positive side, the manager arranged for a sightseeing taxi with a very helpful and polite driver who made our 2 day stay a memorable one.
All in all, Orchha as a town is extremely beautiful and because the resort is close to the river and the Swiss Cottage was a nice experience, I am giving a 4* rating but management deserves only 1*.

It was the most emphatics of stay we had. We stayed on the night of 5th January 2013. Amazing facilities, Hospitality is wonderful. And the location is tremendous. It is very close by to the near by places to visit. Surrounded by nature beauty. It is simply breath taking. It helps you to rejuvenate.

If you thought govt. run establishments are drab and poor in hospitality you would be wrong. This is a wonderful located place in orchha with helpful and supportive staff. They have a heritage room built over a ruined structure which is worth a stay. Kitchen and dining areas are clean with a view of the beta river. Recommend this to the visitor.

Room Tip: See if the heritage suite is available.

Most properties in Orchha are well located as its a very small town. This property is owned and managed by a Government body. Going by standards of most Government run properties in India, its maintenance is relatively better. However with regard to food options and service, there is a lot to be desired if you start comparing to privately run hotels/ resorts. A little tip at the restaurent and to a support staff could result in slightly better service.

Room Tip: Go for the cottages over the tents

There are v.few hotels at Bedaghat. River View is one of the good hotels. The hotel is simple but the view of the river is very good. Staff is cooperative. Good place to stay. Temple and Dudandhar falls are at walking distance.

Room Tip: take rooms near pool.

One of the few times where we choose to decide on which property to stay at once we got to the destination.. Explored a few hotels around but found this one to be the best in terms of location. A sun basked property situated right across the road from the Betwa river. the temples, the fort are all within walking distance. The landscaping inside the premises of the property was excellent and was well kept.. Location and the Airy premise are the feel good factors & that's it. Staff behavior was very very casual, you know that Guest kinda feeling that is extended at hotels in Rajasthan ... Completely missing.. Lunch and the dinner was alright coz we were to may for that in addition to the room cost but the breakfast which was inclusive was not only short on variety, quantity but more importantly the quality.. Brief talk with the high headed manager, it seemed as if he didn't care about the service, people would anyways come to them for the location..

Hi,
We were a group of 6 who stayed at their Swiss Tented accommodation over the 1st weekend on November... The best part about this property is the location...you are right in the heart of the small town and within the walking distance of all major attractions...the soul of Orchha,, though, is the Betwa river, and it's right there across the road from the hotel...the hotel is sprawled over a huge arrea and the terraced layout quite adds to its beauty...but the hotel staff leaves much to be desired...smiles and that feeling of hospitality seems missing (maybe because its a government run property, and like so many government employees, the staff attitude is they couldnt care less...!)
...breakfast menu is very limited and its not a buffet either...the food at the hotel restaurant is average overall... we had one of the best lunches at another hotel Bundelkhand Riverside which is a bit outside the town, but serves excellent multicuisine...
...one of the best things about the hotel is they rent bicycles, which i believe is the BEST way to move around this small town... I'd suggest book room only accommodation for the unbeatable location, and ride the bicycle to the Bundelkhand Riverside to work up an appetite and a hearty meal, and have the best of both worlds... :-)
