“Could do better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

I feel the same as some of the other reviewers - the location is stunning but the hotel could be a whole lot better. The staff were friendly, though, and we had a barbecue one evening and a lovely nature walk early one morning. The food was fine (dreadful coffee though, they could really do with a Lavazza machine!). Since there are not many other places to stay if you want to go to Hampi (other than hostels), I think the owner is resting on his laurels. If I went back to Hampi I think I would try out one of the local hostels right at the site.

the property is simply stunning : 3000 acres of granit rocks, shrubs, streams grottos etc...Not unlike a safari lodge with several bungalows peppered within the property. The ride to Hampi is delightful and 15mn through unspoilt Indian landscape. The staff is very nice and the food is good but : the mattresses are as hard as board not to mention the pilows! Avoid giving laundry away it will come back in a worse state than before: smelly, burnt in some places even, Decoration is often inedaquate more of a mismatch of this and that.
Lots of ants inside the bedrooms and mildew stains in the bathrooms. Such a pity the management couldn t check on these issues better.

Room Tip: get the more expensive rooms for the view over the river

Our five days and four nights at Boulders were unquestionably the high point of our month-long tour of India, even exceeding our stay at the Imperial in New Delhi. Bobby and Sarma, in particular, were helpful, gracious, friendly, and kind. Accomodations were excellent, and the food was beyond compare. We very much look forward to our next visit, hopefully with more time to explore Hampi/Vijayanagara in greater detail, but staying at the selfsame 'Star' executive fortress overlooking the Tungabhadra. Boulders is truly a first class operation with an enviable locale.

We went to Boulders expecting a lot. The property has an unfair advantage of a fabulous setting with a rock pool, open grassy vistas, a stream gabbling through with the resident crocodile that sun bathes quite close to the dinning area, and the astonishingly weathered boulders that the name of the property is inspired by. These boulders are beautifully coloured works of art and nothing like what one could see elsewhere. Truly breath taking.

But the accommodation could be much much better. For what one pays, the place is very basic. Rustic is good. Rustic is what will work. But carelessly rustic is off-putting. The bathroom attached to the room we stayed in was leaking and not that clean. The linen provided smelt damp and moldy. The cottages could do with much improvement and attention to detail. The food too. Typical local fare would be welcome.

But otherwise charming with the rock pool, bonfires, the lovely scenery and a pet emu thrown in.

Room Tip: The suites certainly look better than the thatched cottages where we stayed.

Loved this hotel - literally in the middle of nowhere and the approach through paddy fields is interesting as we thought our driver was lost!! Across the river from Hampi - accessed by a small boat - this is a haven of peace and quiet. The rooms were large with good size bathrooms. Our room had a lovely shared terrace with a view of the river (and boulders). The food, although no choice, was tasty and plentiful.
Highly recommend this lovely charming hotel

Room Tip: We had a room with air conditioning but did not use it - the room fan was sufficient to keep the roo...

This is the only 'nice' hotel to stay at in and around Hampi. So I understand that they feel they can charge what they want. However, be warned that you will be paying way more than double for what you get. For 7000INR a night for a double room no A/C, initially we were shown a room that was completely damp (it had rained so the back wall of the room was sopping wet), then as we were looking surprised at the mess, we were shown to a room that was still being painted...hmm sleeping around wet paint?! Then they scrabbled about a bit and found a room that was supposed to be 9000RS but were so generous as to give it to us for 7000RS after turning the A/C off obviously...

After the epic train journey and flight from Mumbai this was not what we were hoping for, especially as we were shelling out a whopping 7000RS...we were expecting a bit more luxury.

The food at dinner was cold a 'buffet style' in ancient (not quaint) pots with nothing to keep them warm (it would have been alright if it was hot). In the morning the coconut chutney had a cockroach running around on it and even the fruit looked un-appetising. We ordered an omlette without Chilli, but guess what we got... In the evening power cuts were aplenty, which is totally fine, but candles would have been good?! The place is in a beautiful setting, granted. But it could be so nice! They really are missing a good few tricks! It's really a shame actually. And for 7000RS I expect ALOT more. So we stayed one night and ditched the supposed 'luxury' for the Mowgli Guest house, much nearer Hampi and 1500RS a night instead! There we even got a MOSQUITO net. amazing.

Room Tip: don't go with high expectations, if at all.

Good resort but dangerous to get too. Our driver wouldn't drive there until they sent a car to show how to get to it and then it was on single lane roads that a jeep could barely operate on. It is very remote and there aren't any signs to find the place. Recommend staying somewhere else.
