Very serene and pleasant. A dense forest surrounds the building. The church is beautiful from inside.

“An old church amidst deodars”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

This was an old church set amidst the deodar forests just outside McLeodganj. The environment around the church was calm and it had some old world charms.

“Goth in the wilderness”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Built in 1852, this Anglican church is dedicated to John the Baptist. Standing amidst deodar forest, the church offers profound peace that one has to experience to savor.
The spire of the church, visible from the road, beckons you down a stone pathway towards the doorway of a tall neo-Gothic styled building. As you enter and walk towards the altar there is an envelope of calmness that seems to descend with every step. At the altar you can’t help but appreciate uncontrollably the Belgian stained-glass windows. As the sun-rays filter through the thick trees and then the windows, the bright hues of yellow, orange, red, and blue in a dark stone walled structure impress the force of starkness and reality.
Definitely worth a visit if one is in Mcleodgunj!
