“Fantastic place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

We stayed here for three nights in November (low season offer pay for two nights stay three) and cannot say enough good things about the lodge.

All lodges here are small as there are only three gorilla groups limited to 8 visitors a day, and Sanctuary only has 8 cottages all very secluded.

From the minute we arrived and were greeted at the bottom of the steps up to the lodge we were made to feel at home, with the staff addressing you by first name (rather than "what is you room number?").

The tented cottages are very cosy and large, with a separate shower and toilet and a separate bathroom (both stone/cement) and you don't feel as though you are on a tent.

Food was great with a set meal with two choices every evening and either a picnic lunch or sit down meal depending on what activities you are doing. House wine (good South African stuff), beer and soft drinks all included. As is laundry which includes cleaning and drying your hiking bots which we had left out only to dry!!!

Privileged to see the gorillas after a 45 minute drive and 90 minute walk, which was fantastic

I cannot say enough great things about the Gorilla Forest Camp. This lodge is a little piece of heaven. The rooms are very private and nicely decorated. The bathroom was huge an equipped with a private bathtub room lit by candlelight. Our veranda was overlooking the jungle and mountains. Every morning we were served coffe and tea that we could enjoy prior to coming down to the dining area for breakfast. We were provided with breakfast lunch and dinner. The food was absolutely delicious.....5 star quality. We were given packed lunches for our gorilla trekking as well. The staff catered to our every need and made sure we were always comfortable and happy. I cannot say enough about the service at this resort... Jackson (the assistant manager) and Nicholas (our guide and driver) were so attentive and always greeted us with a smile. I will definitely come back and would highly recommend this resort to anyone.

I was lucky enough to stay at Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp for two nights in October 2012. Its name says it all...it is a Sanctuary in the forest, and a great base to stay when tracking the gorillas. Immediately upon arrival, we were welcomed to the camp by Ian and his amazing staff. They took care of our every need while we were there, from helping with our bags, to providing us boxed lunches to cleaning our muddy boots.

The main lodge/common area is nicely decorated and has a fully stocked bar. The food was great. After each meal, the chef would come out to see how we liked it. The tents, or rooms, were very nice. It got chilly at nights and each time we'd go back to our room, there would be hot water bottle warming our beds.

The location for this camp is great. You really feel as if you are in the midst of it all. At times the gorillas come down into the camp, and while they didn't do that while we were there, we did hear them. And we did have luck with our own tracking experience. The camp was nice enough to provide walking sticks and boxed lunches for the adventure. And it was great to treat ourselves to massages after the hiking.

But what really sets this place apart is the staff. I can't put into words how helpful and good they all were. It was as if they anticipated your every need. When we left, they all came down to see us off.

I would recommend it to anyone gorilla tracking in Uganda.

This place is pure magic. I was excited to visit before we got there, however from the moment we pulled up to their sign and met their manager Ian we were blown away by everything about Gorilla Forest Camp.
The Service is beyond anything I thought possible, every possible detail has been perfected, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave I felt like family. Our room attendant was two steps ahead of our needs the entire time, even went over and above and cleaned our shoes after we left them on our porch to air out after our Gorilla Trek. He found out it was our anniversary and when we came back from our trek we have flower petals throughout our room and a bathtub full of flowers to help us celebrates. Everything from the hot water bottles to warm the bed during turn down service to the freshly pressed coffee we were delivered on a tray with our wake up call. Incredible- really and truly felt like royalty the entire time.
The lodge. The rooms are very intimate and set privately amidst the forest, so your views are of the clouds and trees, the canvas walls enable you to fall asleep to the sounds of the forest and wake up with the sounds of nature. The dining Area is incredible, it is open concept so as you are sitting there eating you can watch monkeys or even Gorillas walk buy.
The Food. This is bittersweet because I was hoping to lose weight however the chef is a cluniary genious - the best lamb chops I have ever had in my life and the soup creations were spectacular.
It's weird as I write this review I am trying to think of new adjectivies to use but everything from each detail was really and trully Magical, sheer perfection.
I would suggest EVERYONE stay here over the other properties in Bwindi - you arrive and you are treated like royalty. Sanctuary, Gorilla Forest Camp, Ian and his team have completly redefined customer service for me and have set the bar extremely high.
Brendan and myself loved every single minute of our time at Gorilla Forest Camp and my only complaint is that I couldn't stay longer.
Thank you for an incredible anniversary and for letting us experience this magical paradise in the clouds.
Ivona

We stayed at this lodge during our stay in Bwindi to track the mountain gorillas which was the main focus of our safari in Uganda. We tracked the Rushegura group which were quite close to Buhoma itself; it took us about 2 hours to actually find them. The lodge provided a packed lunch, which was similar to other packed lunches in Uganda (fine considering the location). As it was, we actually did not need he packed lunch as we were back in the lodge around lunchtime!
Gorilla Forest Camp provided a comfortable base while we were in this part of Bwindi. Obviously Bwindi is a quite remote location so we were not expecting the food and service to be as good here as elsewhere; however we were pleasantly surprised!
The food was tasty and filling (which you need after the trek), and the staff were very polite and well trained. As soon as your glass approaches empty a waiter materializes to offer a refill!
The rooms were a little damp at night, but nothing major considering the lodge is built in a rainforest. There are lots of nice little touches such as the big bath after a trek, and hot water bottles in the beds. The staff also wash your muddy boots after the trek.
This was probably one of the more expensive options we stayed in, but here you really get what you pay for.

I recently spent 3 wonderful nights at the Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp. The staff was suberb and the tents extremely comfortable. If you are going to Uganda just to visit the gorillas you are doing a miss service to yourself. There is so much to see and do in the beautiful country of Uganda. I have the best job of all, I'm a travel agent and I travel the World. Uganda has just moved up to 1st place in my list of countries visited. I can't wait to go back.
