“safari trip with wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2015

In August 2014 we were invited to take part in a German Ugandan wedding ceremony in Uganda. So we planned our own tour around the country with a longer stay at Kingfisher Lodge, Kichwamba, where the wedding took place. We decided to choose a safari car from African Pearl Safaris. Herbert, our driver, was a very kind and gentle guy. He told us a lot about the country and the animals. He knew when to start in the morning to reach the lodge/hotel, which we had booked ourselves, in the evening. He always was on time and he had a particular style of driving carefully and safely around or, if unavoidable, through the potholes.
He showed us Uganda from its most beautiful side, for example he advised us to have a look at Murchison Falls from above or he drove us competently around in the maze of Kampala.
He always knew the needs of his clients. It was a great pleasure to have him as a driver.

“We highly recommend African Pearl Safari”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2015

APS was nothing short of professional and efficient in arranging and providing for us an exciting and worry-free safari. Our only regret is not taking this trip years ago. This was our first trip with an onsite tour company in an African country, and we were wary, but Edris was extremely professional and helpful in the planning stages. The itinerary included: Rwanda’s Virunga volcanoes, home to 300 mountain gorillas, fifteen of which we experienced up close and very personal, Uganda’s wildlife parks including Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and its 300 mountain gorillas as we experienced another fifteen of these intriguing great apes, Queen Elizabeth Park and the wildlife teeming Straits dividing Lake Albert and Lake George, culminating in the spectacular Murchison Falls Park and its mesmerizing six meter gap in the Nile, the largest rush of water in the world. This was a lifetime adventure and most memorial experience thanks to Edris, sales manager, our outstanding guide/ driver, Fred Sunday, who could spot birds and monkeys in the trees and avoid pot holes at the same time, the excellent itinerary, and the services of the moderately-priced lodges. Be prepared for long rough rides on bad roads however,
and the fact the generators are off in all lodges at night meaning no room fan on hot nights. We highly recommend African Pearl Safari.

“Exceeded every expectation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2015

Our experience with APS was honestly among the best travel experiences of our lives. And we travel often. Even though my girlfriend and I had a very specific 6-day window available to safari in Uganda, our APS contact, Edris, was beyond accommodating. He was incredibly responsive as he worked with us to craft a safari itinerary custom tailored to desired activity, pace, and budget.
Our personal driver/guide, Sula, a veteran commercial driver and safari guide, spoke perfect english and was helpful, accommodating and like most Ugandans, incredibly friendly.
Every nature activity on our itinerary lived up to the hype. We stood a few feet from gorillas, tracked down a family of chimps in a forest, looked countless elephants in the eye, watched lion cubs play, witnessed hundreds of hippopotamus play and countless other mind blowing experiences.
The accommodations all proved stunning and luxurious. Even the one listed as a "budget" option was in reality quite gorgeous.
On top of it all, I proposed on a mountain top in Bwindi overlooking the Impenetrable Forest!! Couldn't have imagined it any other way.

In summary, it's worth every penny. We ended up not only saving money, but the stress of planning, driving and navigating the language barrier—Uganda has 52 languages.
If you're in Uganda looking for a safari, we would 100% recommend APS.

“Wonderful people, great company, BEST experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2015

Edris at African Pearl Safaris was such a pleasure to work with. I had a work trip to Uganda with a tiny window (3 days) in the middle for being a tourist--and African Pearl Safaris helped me squeeze in one of the most memorable experiences of my life!

I opted for the flight from Kampala to the Bwindi region (my schedule didn't allow time for the drive) and it was super smooth. They picked me up at my Kampala hotel, took me to the airport, and stayed until they made sure I made it through the gates. The plane was small but pleasant.

Upon arrival, I will say it was rather odd that all of us on the plane were going to the same park, but we each went in different 4x4 vehicles, even though we all could have easily fit in 1 or 2. I suppose each company wants to make sure your experience is entirely in their hands, but they could have saved gas! The hotel is beautiful. Huge room, lovely bathroom, warm water bottle under the sheets at night. Lovely people working there, beautiful grounds.

The actual hike into the forest was amazing. We had a group of about 10 people plus guides and porters. Be sure to have a porter with you--it's optional, but do it for 2 reasons: 1) It can get very muddy and it's super helpful to have someone to be there for you when you inevitably slip; and 2) You're helping the local economy and that means a LOT. Tourism dollars are what keeps this region alive, and incentivizes locals to keep their farmland from encroaching on the park where the gorillas live--and to help protect them in other ways. It's seriously a win-win.

I would highly recommend African Pearl Safaris. Definitely do this trip if you're in the area!

“Nothing short of outstanding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2015

Me and my travelling buddy arrived in Kampala and were met by our Guide Sula, he swiftly took us to our hotel for 2 nights in Kampala. Ready for our road trip he met us as arranged and off we went. Our trip for 6 days was Kampala -Queen Elizabeth NP, Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi, Bwindi to Kampala. Over the days this was a lot of travelling and a lot of time spent in the van however we wouldn't have changed a thing. We were lucky enough to have the van to just the 2 of us which was great as we could stop as and when plus had plenty of space to relax and enjoy the time on the road. Abundance of water was provided and the sliding roof gave great photo opportunities whenever we wanted. Sula our guide is an absolute legend. He was a brilliant driver (not an easy task on some of those roads), thoughtful, engaging, informative, caring, a true gentleman and over the time we spent with him became our friend. We were so sorry to say good bye to him when we left to get our flight home. The trip itself was brilliant but Sula absolutely made the whole experience just absolutely brilliant - we miss him already and are planning a return trip with APS to Rwanda and would insist Sula be our guide again. On the first day of our trip, the stop at Kazinga Channel for a 2 hour boat trip was absolutely brilliant. We had the boat to just the 2 of us so was a private trip and as it had been raining we didn't see the elephants come to the water, however the abundance of hippo's, crocs and birdlife were excellent. 3 hippos tried to overturn our boat which was an added excitement considering they are the second main killer in Africa, second to the Mosquito! Our night at Ihmaba safari lodge was great, lovely place and will post a separate review. Again, we had the whole lodge to ourselves which was peaceful and relaxing. Paul the security who we had been chatting to on our walk back to the lodge after dinner, kindly knocked us just before midnight to show us mama and baby hippo who were out of the water just by our lodge - breathtaking experience not to be forgotten. Early morning gave drive for elephants, hippo, lions, Kobs, Warthogs and so much more before heading up to Bwindi. 2 nights at the Trekkers Tavern, again brilliant and had the place to ourselves! Of course the highlight was our Gorilla Tracking which is what we travelled for, a family of 20 and we saw over 10 of them, including the silverback with the mother and 2 babies and many more youngsters playing in the trees. We have over 2000 photos and videos of our trip but nothing can beat the actual experience. We absolutely loved our entire trip and the fact that Edris called twice during our time there was a great added touch. Nothing was too much trouble and even when we arranged (of our own choice) to move hotels for our return night in Kampala, APS intervened and sorted it out for us. I cannot recommend APS but especially Sula, our guide and now our friend enough. This trip surpassed our expectations and we will definitely be back and use this company again - thank you so much for the experience of a lifetime, a week full of laughs and brilliant moments,
