Absolutely amazing place in the middle of the forest, very authentic, nice staff and good food! Wouldn't hesitate recommending it to others!
But be aware that the weather is often cold and wet, so be sure to bring some warm clothes!

We spent 1 night here in one of the self contained tents. The tent is a good sized 3m tent, buit of a platform. The bathroom (which had tiled floor and walls) was adjoining the tent and contained a shower, flushing toilet and handbasin. Although this accomodation is simple it had all that you needed. The shower had hot water on demand, there was electricity in the evening, there were chairs on the outside veranda. It was lovely to sit on the veranda and look out into the forest and listen to the noise of the birds. The tent and bathroom were spotlessly clean. My only comment here would be about the bed, My husband is 6" 2' and the bed was too short for him, which meant him lying diagonally across the double bed.
There is a large communal area where tea and coffee is available during the day. The food served here was really good. We had a great beef stroganoff with mashed potatoes and mildly spiced mixed vegetables. This is not a meal table, which you leave and still feel hungary.
If you are going to and from the communal area at night you will need a torch as the pathways are not lit. The tent accomodation is down the hill from the communal area and was a bit slippery in the rain. There you walking poles you can rent ($5)/ buy($10) a in the communal area. They have gorillas carved into them and make a lovely momento to bring home as well as being very useful for walking.
We had a low expectation of what to expect for our stay at the community camp but were pleasantly surprised by the peaceful location, quality accomodation, excellent food and frienldly staff.
There is a great walk you can do from this accomodation from Buhoma to Nkuringo, which we did with 2 guides - Agatha and Adolf from Nkuringo walking Safaris. The walk takes about 5-7 hours depending on your level of fitness and what you stop to look at on the way. This is not just an amble throught the forest, but an adventure of log bridges, narrow paths along the river and great views as you climb the hills.

Spent 2 nights here while gorilla tracking and was really pleased with the standard of accommodation and of service. I stayed in one of the self contained tents - double bed with plenty of table space and with a toilet, shower and sink out the back, and all spotlessly clean. Electricity goes out at 11pm and camera batteries, phones etc are charged in the dining area. Spent a couple of peaceful afternoons sat on the veranda staring out at the rainforest. Staff were friendly and seemed to be on the ball with regards to getting people ready and organised for gorilla tracking. I was pleased with the food - dinner was served at the time I had specified (no waiting for other guests) and was of good quality. Lovely banana fritter! And breakfast was hot drinks, fruit, and your choice of eggs with toast cooked to order. To top all of this, it is a couple of minutes' walk to the briefing place for gorilla tracking.

I have stayed here 4 times since 2001 and although terrible the first time, it is now a great place to stay when visiting Bwindi. It is a very simple camp with no airs and graces and I guess you get what you pay for. That being said, the food when we stayed was fantastic, simple but tasty and was served when we ordered it so not much waiting around. the tents are a tad dark but the setting on the edge of the forest is awesome and am pretty sure I heard a gorilla down at the river below our tent. will definitely stay again when next in Bwindi.

Buhoma has a feel of what I imagine old Africa camp life was like with a natural visual beauty and tasteful decor. Superb Management - Ken, the GM and team create a welcoming and attentive atmosphere, never giving you a second thought away from your focus which is to relax, unwind and take it all in! It is well located 2 minutes from the Park Meeting Place for Gorilla Tracking and I have been told Gorilla Sightings do happen on the Property. I found the food delicious tailored made to my dietary requirements, and had a great gift shop.

Room Tip: The only thing to note is there are long steep stairs to some of the cottages/cabins.

We loved our stay at the Buhoma Community Rest Camp. It had everything we needed. We stayed in an ensuite tent. The front veranda was practically in the forest. The food was good-certainly not great but more than adequate. The beer was cheap and cold. But I can see how some would be turned off by it. The tent was canvas and, being the rainy season, it smelled mildewy. We were down quite a flight of stairs from the reception and the dining hall. The dining staff tried to be accommodating, asking when you wanted dinner but it really didn't matter. We ended up sitting and waiting until everyone showed up and only then did the serving begin. It wasn't a big deal to us. We weren't in a hurry and had nowhere to go but I can see where it might frustrate some. We loved the location, just steps from the meeting point for our gorilla trek. And we loved saving money, supporting the community while doing so.

I stayed here two nights. I wish I had a third night. This "accomodation" was a heavy canvas tent built onto a platform. The back of the tent opens into a permanent bathroom structure that had running water, a shower with hot water, and a flush toilet. I even had electricity!
This was one of the few places that gave me a double bed and plenty of tables to put my suitcase and toiletries out.
The restaurant offered plenty of food selections. Its open air, so bring a light jacket to wear at night since it gets a little chilly (and rainy) in the mountains.
I especially liked that the surrounding community offered several different activites in addition to seeing the gorillas (which was about a 75 yard walk from Buhoma Community Camp). Other activites include a guided Community Walk (I highly recommend), orphans nightly dance show, streetj lined with shops, coffeesnack shops, etc.

Room Tip: I had the Chameleon tent "cabin". It was GREAT. Be aware that unless you want to be righ...
