“A touch of Holland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

We love the beautiful family run cheese farm. Great variety of dutch cheeses and also a place to buy some imported goodies, They have a speclass (those weird dutch cinnamon and almond biscuits) bread spread. Sounds insane but really a hit in my family.
Pretty venue for functions and weddings. Great spot to get a picnic basket and sit in the garden. A nice place to visit if you want to get away from the city.

“A lovely day out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

The Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij is a great day out. I discovered if with fellow bikers out for a breakfast run, and have returned with family. The food is good, and there is a shop with a wide variety of Dutch and Indonesian treats. But the highlight of course is the cheeses. Most are made on the premises, but they have some great imported cheeses too. They alow tasting, and of course you buy almost everything you taste!
There is a well stocked bar with Hoeks and Millers microbrewed beer.
We did not try it, but they have picnic baskets and blankets and yo can go down to the river for a restful lunch.
The Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij is located just 20 minutes from Hartebeestpoort Dam 45minues from from Rustenburg or the West Rand or Pretoria, so I guess it could be decribed as central! It lies in a lovely picturesque setting, and the drive there is great. A good venue to families, but also for bike clubs out for a breakfast run.
Definitely to be repeated.
Negatives? Not really, but you should understand you are paying primarily for the location and atmosphere, and so it is not the place for a quick meal or a drunken party. But perhaps those are POSITIVES!

“Love this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

This is a stunning day out for couples, friends or family. The food is excellent. Shop filled with unusual food and other things to buy. You can get a picnic basket and blanket and go down to the river. Brilliant place to cycle, just not after heavy rains as the cycling track runs right next to the river and it get too muddy. Only negative is that you do have to wait a while for your food. It's not going to arrive in 10mins, however when it comes, it's worth the wait.

“A beautiful day trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

We came across it by chance on our way back from Magalies Park. About 45 mins from the West Rand. Good variety of cheese, delicious mustards and well informed staff. There is a play area for children and a beautiful view over the mountains. It was very busy (Sunday early afternoon) but not noisy or crowded. My husband and I shared a cold meat platter for R84, that was more than enough. The cheesecake afterwards was wonderful! Very relaxed, family atmosphere and we will definitely go again.
