“A great dissappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

We had booked 2 rooms at Beit Zaman resort in Petra, Jordan, through Agoda, for the period from 29/dec/13 to 1/Jan/14 and had paid the whole amount.
However when we reached Beit Zaman hotel from Dead Sea on 29 Dec; our reservation vouchers were not honored, we were transferred to their sister concern hotel Taybet Zaman, which is far away from the city centre. Although the hotel claims to be 5 star category; it can not even be ranked as 3 star. The facilities are very basic -
1. The hotel is very far away from Petra; more than 10 km.
2. There is no shuttle service from hotel to Petra
3. There is no curtain inside the room.
4. The doors are old and rotten; the keys don't work properly
5. There is no variety of breakfast; for 3 days the breakfast was menu was same.
6. The service was poor; there was not even complimentary water available in the room. We had to repeatedly request the hotel reception to provide us Tea/Coffee maker in the room.
7. The bathtub did not have water stop.
8. The restaurant is far away, it is very inconvenient to reach the restaurant during winter night.
9. They presented a wrong bill while checking out; we had never used the Gala Dinner on New Year eve but were presented with the bill. Later they apologized by stating that it might be human error; this is not expected from a 5 Star hotel.
10. The staff at reception are inefficient; there was no coordination between the staff during change of shifts.
11. The toilets are cold.

We booked this hotel as part of our trip to Petra and Wadhi Musa. We arrived tried and footsore from the wonders of Petra to find our room was freezing cold, the door did not fit by about 3/4 inch all the way round and a howling gale was blowing. We booked to use the steam room for 5.30 turned up and was told it would not be ready until 6.00 we returned and the steam room was just about okay but the rest of hammam was freezing - there was five of us and we all got the briefest rub down and then sent back to the steam room, the water in the shower was tepid. We has supper which was nothing to right home about and retired to our room and went to bed because we were freezing. The next morning it was too cold to use the shower room and there was no heating and again the water was only tepid.

This could be a beautiful hotel with stunning views and it desperately needs money spending on it and facilities enhancing - would not recommend in the winter which is the best time to see Petra and its glories.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else - our excellent tours operators Eco Tours said they get more complaints about the...

We stayed here as part of our 10 day tour of Jordan. We were told this property was originally a Bedouin camp area. It has been developed in a way that imparts a 19th century Jordanian style of living. All 102 suites are built into the side of a hill in row house patterns. The suites are built of stone walls and supporting stone arches. Furnishings are comfortable and basic to fit the atmosphere. Bathrooms are modern. The locks on the wooden doors were tricky to use.
We ordered from the menu for our dinner. Food ( dinner menu and breakfast buffet) was only adequate. Some of the menu items were not available at all and others they ran out of as people were ordering. Wifi only available in the lobby. The resort is fairly dark without much lighting which imparts a mystical sense and the stars are amazingly bright.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room with a walkout and a view over the valley. We had room 115- ideal for us.

I stayed here in November 2013. The hotel has a theme concept which is interesting by needs some updates. I didn't find any rooms the same. All different sizes and shapes. The rooms are spread out into different sections. There are maps to assist you but hard to see in the night. I would bring a flashlight. The thick walls gives you a cave feeling. The rooms were clean and the staff were excellent. In the room you have a safe, hair dryer, toiletries, extra blanket, TV with a few English channels and telephone. There is a ac/heater unit but I couldn't get it to work.

This hotel is very close to the Mosic so you will hear the morning call for prayer.

The restaurant staff is excellent and the buffet has enough for everyone. You will have to buy water which is a bit pricey. Alcohol is expensive bit we are in Jordan.

Views of the valley, sunset and sunrise are wonderful. I think this hotel has the best views.

The updates are minor, need to change the doors too hard to open, need more lights around the resort, update the Internet to have access in the rooms, supply one free bottle of water in the rooms and update the windows so we don't hear the call for prayer or people walking by the room.

I did enjoy my visit and would return.

We were in a group staying for the night and then going to Petra. The design of the hotel is an
old village. The rooms are design to look like inside of a cave. Beds were fairly comfortable.
The scenery around the hotel was unique as views of the mountains and of the village. We had
a buffet and the food was really good.

This concept is interesting enough to make up for the imperfections. We were with a group and most of us liked this place. The rooms were unique if not perfect. The food was probably not as good as some other hotels, but I found the service was better. It's a bit far from the main gate, bit the distance from town provides it with a nice view. The rooms are quite varied so if I was traveling on my own I would ask to see the room first. Wifi was in the lobby only ; but was reliable.

The description is fascinating but the reality is disappointing. A walk around the hotel is nice because the rooms are all located along narrow walkways the meander around the property. I think there is potential but the downturn in tourism has hampered this hotel. The rooms are interesting but basic and the air conditioning is adequate if the temperatures are not too high. On the plus side the food at the restaurant was wonderful. Breakfast was a little hectic and the egg chef was having a hard time keeping up with the demand. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this hotel.
