“Great views, okay location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2014 via mobile

We stayed here in late Mar 14. We were driving ourselves, and arrived in Petra after dark, without GPS navigation. So finding the hotel was a bit of a challenge since it is located off of the main hotel drag in Petra, plus stopping at others for directions wasn't too helpful, but we eventually found it. The rooms are nice, probably not up to par with other Marriott resorts, but we were just spending the night and the rooms were just fine. Due to the location, getting to everything is a short drive. Breakfast was provided with the cost of the room and was very good, a combination of local and continental. The staff is very nice and helpful. Would certainly stay here again.

Our group loved this hotel. Spotless throughout. Staff always working, cleaning, polishing. Food excellent. View unsurpassed. Beds just plain wonderful. Highly recommend. Maybe 3rd time we have taken our groups here over the last 18 years. Turkish bath was terrific. Will return!

We stayed for 2 nights on a visit to the Petra site. Upon arrival we asked for extra water bottles as only 1 in the room and tap water undrinkable. We were told you only receive one bottle complimentary. Then the air conditioning wasn't working, we're told it's not actually on as it is low season! So opened window. Dinner-sadly only one restaurant open at a time, again because not many residents. Staff could be friendlier. Plus points, spectacular views of the mountains and sunset and the pasta is very good! Breakfast was not as good as other Marriotts.

If we were not staying on reward points I would not pay to stay here again. The location is out of town so your stuck for food unless you get a taxi. Popped into the Movenpick opposite the Petra site which looks a better option.

Room Tip: High floor mountain view away from the road

Dear GengisAndLivingston,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write in Trip Advisor about your recent stay at Petra Marriott.

We are truly sorry to hear that we have failed to meet all your expectations in terms of the friendly staff, the one complimentary bottle of water in the rooms, the breakfast buffet and having one restaurant open at a time. We also regret that you were misinformed about the A/C in the rooms, as due to seasonality, it was still set on heating, and as such it was turned off because of the unexpectedly nice weather on those days.

It gives us such pleasure to know that you have enjoyed the spectacular views, the amazing sunsets and the Pasta.

As a valued Marriott Reward member and guest, we would very much appreciate it if you could kindly write to us directly to the hotel email, in order to get further details concerning your stay, and to be able to regain your trust.

Our sincere apologies for all the inconveniece, and we take this opportunity to express our gratitude for choosing to stay with us.

Very much looking forward to being of service to you.

Yours sincerely,

Zovinar Mananian (Ms)

We had picked the Marriott because of the view from the hotel’s location. Yes, the view from our room on the 7th floor was nice, but in retrospect, it did not make up for (1) the cramped room with its bland/generic/corporate décor and very dry and uncomfortable air ambiance in the room due to the unyielding thermostat; (2) nickel-and-dime approach (wifi in one’s room for a fee, by the hour, in this day and age, after one had paid extra for the view and everything else?! BTW, the “free” wifi in the lounge was for 3 hours only, if one could get a signal! We couldn’t!); (3) mediocre dinner and breakfast buffet at the restaurant (intercontinental fare is fine, but we are in Jordan: it would have been nice to have been offered one or two regional specialties among the hot entrees. The food itself also reminded us of what one might typically find in a cafeteria .. overcooked and without much taste); and (4) indifferent to unhelpful to rude front desk staff (in response to our query regarding a discrepancy between our third-party booking and the hotel’s record over one of the charges, the front desk staff told us “check with your agent” (literally in so many words) and then just walked away …. In keeping with this same theme of “unhelpful indifference”, no one offered to help with our luggage at check-out. We ourselves actually did not need it with only a few light pieces, but at other hotels, the staff would have at least offered. We wonder how other guests with more and/or heavier luggage would fare.)

The staff in the restaurant was pleasant and tried to be helpful, but they alone could not compensate for everything else.

We knew that the Marriott was 10-15 minutes by car from the main entrance to Petra and had been prepared to accept this in return for the view since we had a driver. In retrospect, we should have stayed at the Moevenpick! We don’t know if the room, food, and service at the Moevenpick would have been any better, but at least we knew we could have just sauntered from a room at the Moevenpick over to the park on our own time and enjoyed the extra 15 minutes of the view at the park!

Room Tip: The extra cost for a room "with a view" was not worth it!

Dear PIn61,

Your comments in Trip Advisor about your recent stay at Petra Marriott are very much appreciated, and we thank you so much for taking the time to share them.

We deeply regret to know that our congested room and the type of decor along with the thermostat system did not meet your expectations.

Would you please accept our sincere apologies that we have failed you in regards to having difficulty connecting to our free Lobby Wifi and that our staff did not extend the 3 hours as a way to compensate for the challenges, the quality of breakfast and dinner buffets while lacking regional dish choices, the unfriendly approach from our Front Office and Bell Staff.

On another note, we are thankful for your kind comments about our Restaurant Staff and the special views of the hotel with the surrounding mountains.

Your comments are very valuable to us, and they will be all reviewed and addressed thoroughly.

We truly hope we will have the pleasure of serving you again, and regaining your trust, should your future trips bring you back to this area.

With our thanks and appreciation.

Yours sincerely,

Zovinar Mananian (Ms)

Our morning view over the valley was breath taking with all of colours of the rocks standing out. The hotel is a distance from the entrance to Petra itself. You definitely need a driver. The hotel itself is fresh, room and bathroom were welcoming and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. Likely the weak link is the dining. Not being a buffet fan leaves limited options.
