“Great Views from the Marriott”

The Petra Marriott Hotel

New York City

I stayed at the Marriott Petra for two nights on a visit to Jordan. The hotel is located outside the town of Wadi Musa, and is a bit of a hike to the town itself. The views from the hotel are amazing and a nice introduction to the entire Petra experience.

Since the hotel is a bit isolated, we ate dinner there both nights, as well as the included breakfast buffet. The food was good, the breakfast buffet especially so. Dinner choices were somewhat basic, but OK.

The major disappointment was that the pool was out of order. After a long day hiking through Petra, it would have been great to come back and dive in the pool. Instead, I opted to go into Wadi Musa and visit a local hammam.

“Nice hote with great views, but you need to have a car to get to Petra.”

I stayed at this hotel with a friend for two nights when visiting Petra.

It is situated about 10 minutes drive from the city centre, so you will need a car in order not to be bored. Hotel facilities are somewhat limited. There is a spa and cinema, however during our stay there were no takers for the cinema hence no films were shown.

Breakfast was tasty, but you had to look for a guy from the omlette/egg station.

Good views from our room.

I am not sure that I would agree that this place is a 5 star hotel.

“Beautiful View”

The Petra Marriott Hotel

Mar 30, 2008

Enjoyed an overnight stay here. Staff friendly, Food good and a lovely big bed. One criticism - I asked when the pool opened and they said May. I could have done with a swim to clear the desert from my ears. They looked after bags and I collected them on the outward journey. The hotel is up and away from the visitors centre. To get close go to the Movenpick - but make sure that you get the right one! We were woken in the morning by a random caller but he was very friendly and it was 8 O Clock
Cannot tell you how great Petra is - You have to be there. You really need a week there and quite a good level of fitness. But after a hot sticky day in Petra this is a great hotel to come back to and relax and have a beer.

“Very pleasant stay at this Marriott”

We found the Marriott very clean and comfortable. Everything was crisp and fresh, not worn or soiled. We had a nice size room and the bathroom was a good size and clean and modern. The food was good and while the staff seemed to be not as polished as they could be, they were responsive and efficient. I had my laundry cleaned by the hotel and it came back on time and was very nicely done. All in all, a very good experience.

“Nice but too far away from Petra”

I booked this hotel based upon the reviews on Trip Advisor. Everything was lovely about this hotel, the rooms were clean and nice, the staff were attentive and service was great. Views were gorgeous. However, if I had known how far away from Petra it is I would not have stayed here. It is a good 10 - 15 minute drive (if you know where you are going) from Petra and there is nothing nearby. So you either have to rely on haggling with taxi drivers over price etc or try and find your own way around in your rental car.

Again, I will say that it's a fine hotel but when I saw how close the Movenpick was to the gates of Petra and to all the restaurants and shops etc I would have booked there instead.
