“Dark, mysterious and wonderful food and company”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

The Rock Camp is across between a Bedouin Tented village and a gourmet restaurant. You sit in an open tent under the stars and Fatima offers you Kohl around the eyes and henna patterns on your fingers while you wait for the food. This is a meat feast with roasted veg cooked in a steel drum, buried in the sand. There are vegetarian options as well and a meze-type selection and salads to go along with the main course. We went as part of a tour party, but you are equally welcome as a pair or individuals. Very romantic, miles from anywhere and there is an option to camp in one of the black and white Bedouin tents. Highly recommended!¬

“Difficult to rate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

Just returned from the rock camp and our experience is very difficult to put into stars. The camp was easy to find from Petra and the staff could not have been nicer but I think we were there on a off night. We arrived early because we were concerned about finding our way. Until dinner there is not much to do, did not want to hike as we had just spent the day hiking in Petra. Dinner and sitting around the campfire was wonderful, 5 stars. However, we did not have any dancing as others have said and the hand painting was done hurriedly and not very well. We were lucky in that there was another couple at the camp, it would not have been much fun if we were there by ourselves. The accommodation are basic, to be expected. No hot water in the evening, lights out at 20:30 and no water at all in the morning. Breakfast was cold coffee and bread, not great. The experience was wonderful out in the stars but it was it has the promise of being so much more and the night we were there it just did not deliver.

“Experiencing Jordan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

This restaurant was part of my trip, and I really enjoyed it. We were asked about Kohl decoration around our eyes, and henna on the hand while awaiting the meal. Some of us declined the Kohl , no one was pushed into it, the evening was lovely, with the stars, quiet setting, and a bonfire, along with music. The food was fantastic and loved the way it was cooked in the traditional way. Everyone went out of their way to make it a wonderful evening. After the meal we were given the opportunity to use the hena on our hand. Neat Would definately recommend this .

“Fabulous family night!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

My husband, young son and I spent one night in the luxury tent accommodation. The tent was clean and spacious with fresh sheets and lots of extra blankets. The dinner was the best meal we had in Petra, and breakfast was also tasty. The setting is lovely and quiet, with stars, a bonfire and cold beer. Our three hosts were kind, fun and always helpful. The one night gave us a great family memory. Highly recommend!

“A great,fun evening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

This was not like the usual 'tourist attraction' of local culture and believe me I have been to a few. This was a great taste of the Bedouin lifestyle from traditional food to making bread; from henna decorated hands to Kohl decoration around the eyes - even my husband's! It was great fun. With comfortable seating we were able to appreciate the food and music. Some of the more adventurous in our group even tried the dancing with a little instruction from our hosts! The people who looked after us were friendly and helpful, especially Fatima who showed us how to make shrak bread as well as decorating us with henna and kohl. The atmosphere of a Bedouin camp was enhanced by the brightly burning camp fire, the towering cliffs and the stars shining overhead. We were part of a tour group, but this is a great addition to anyone's trip to Petra. The quiet, the peacefulness and the fun was magic!
