“Best hotel in our trip in Jordan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

Rocky mountain hotel benefits from an amazing location for sunset over the hills of Petra... The rooms are charming, clean and quite big... The breakfast is gorgeous with jam, cheese, zartan, juices, omelet, veggie... the community room looks like a bedouin tent with balcony...
For us, Jane, owner of Rocky mountain, made our stay an unforgettable experience... she is extremely pleasant, friendly and funny... you can discuss with her about Jordanian culture, life in jordan or anything you are afraid to ask jordanian about...

Really nice place, nice rooms, great breakfast and teat / coffee always available (free) on the restaurant, where you can enjoy the most gorgeous sunset on the balcony.
We where a group of 4 friends and got a nice room for the price.
They will have free transportation for the Petra site.

This is a great cheap hotel to stay at while visiting Petra...staff are very helpful and accommodating, rooms are nice and clean...they have a beautiful top floor dining area with great views over the valley where you can sit outside and enjoy their great breakfast...you are a short walk from the center of Petra town and they offer you free drop off and pick up to ancient Petra...we had a great time there and they can arrange a bus to pick you up from the front door and take you to Amman for 7JD (I think it was around that, I cannot remember exactly but it was cheap) which is really helpful...

The balcony at the back of hotel provides amazing view to Wadi Musa and Petra. We stayed in a room next to the balcony and enjoyed the great view when waking up and before going to sleep. The room and bathroom were a bit small, but okay for a budget hotel. They provided organized trip but we found cheaper ones elsewhere. You can pay 4JD to get a lunch box with sandwich and soft drink and some snacks, but obviously they just forgot to do it in the morning when we ordered one the afternoon before. There is free shuttle to Petra in the morning at 7:30am and one about 8:30am. The pick up should be 5:30am but again they totally forgot to pick us up even though we checked out the same morning but asked to be picked up in the afternoon. The driver of the shuttle tried to persuade us to booked the transportation to Wadi Rum with him all the way to Petra.

Room Tip: Get a room with view facing Petra.

Thanks for taking the time to review the hotel. Apologies for forgetting your lunch box. Also, sorry you got hassled by the shuttle driver about Wadi Rum - it is not something I condone and I will talk to them.

Not sure what "organised trip" you are referring to - we offer transportation from the hotel to various places in Jordan e.g. the airport, and these are offered at the standard prices.

Regarding pick up from the Petra site - we pick up at 5pm (not 5.30pm). This could explain why no vehicle was down there for you. Regards Jane

We stayed at this hotel twice during our Jordan trip. I have fairly mixed thoughts on the hotel.

Rooms
For example, the first time we stayed at the hotel, we had a spacious, clean, well maintained room, but the second time we stayed, the room was a fair bit smaller, the toilet and shower were practically on top of each other (small bathroom) and the room had a funny smell and was not in a very good state of repair and could do with so e maintenance work.

Food and chill out area
The breakfast was simple (bread, cucumber, tomato, hummus and eggs). A great perk is that there is unlimited tea / coffee available all day. One of the best parts of this hotel is the very special chill out area on the tip floor- it is a beautiful Arabic themed area with incredible views (esp good for sundown)- we didn't get to spent as much time here as we wanted but it was a really peaceful place to hangout. All meals were served up here. You can pay 8 jod for dinner at the hotel- dinner is ok but you get to watch sundown and town is 5-10 mins drive Away so it is convenient. You can also pay for shisha in the chill out area.

Management
The owner seemed a little bit all over the place and was often hard to find. However, when you did find her or any other staff, they were extremely helpful - they took us through a map of Petra city and gave us lots of tips- they also organise two pick ups and drop off daily and can help you with taxis/ other transport. If you are taxi to another town, we found it quite a bit cheaper to organise ourself.

The location
The views are incredible and it is worth spending a night just for that alone. However, we did find it a little inconvenient for Petra- it's a 5-10 min drive down and was too hot to walk to and too much of a hike up to walk from. Taxis are 3 jod each way.

Overall, a nice hotel but I would have preferred to be closer to town where the entrance to Petra and other bars/ restaurants are.

OK - so I may sound a bit erked! but a hotel is "deemed" budget for a reason - if we renovated all the rooms and bathrooms so they were larger with new furniture, we would no longer be "budget".

Bathrooms - all our bathrooms are SMALL. This hotel is old and the size of the bathrooms reflect this. However, they do have separate shower cubicles with shower curtains and are not "wetrooms" ( which you still find here in many budget hotels). To compensate for size I have fitted hooks and racks so that everything can be held off the floor. Also, the bathrooms are clean and the extractor fans work.

Bedrooms - once again, they are small but clean. Furthermore, it is important to me that everything works - TV, a/c, multi-sockets, lights and table lamps, window locks. If something breaks when someone is in the room (and we are told about it) we will fix it immediately. The furniture is old but clean. Beds are new. I am not sure what maintenance issue was referred to in this review.

Local traditional breakfast - 3 different juices; a variety of jams (e.g. fig, apricot and black cherry); local hand pressed olive oil and zaarta (thyme based dip); lebaneh (a type of creme fraise) and hommous; cucumbers, tomatoes and olives; omelettes; fresh pitta bread.

Management - hmm! What can I say! Well - with it being Ramadan and my staff fasting 14 hrs a day, I tend to be "a little bit all over the place" because the other staff members have reduced hours. It is only fair - they are fasting and I am not. Regards Jane

The hotel is eccletic and individual. It has all the comforts required including air con and heating. You are greeted to some amazing views as it is located on the side of a mountain overlooking Petra and the folks who look after your needs are special. I had an amazing stay although my arrival there was fraught due to a possible misunderstanding. However it got better in leaps and bounds. I spent my birthday with them and they made me feel very loved and special. For those looking for a 4 or 5 star hotel, this is not for you. So rock up folks and have a great time!!!!

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear of the hotel are cooler and also face Petra and you also have amazing views

My husband and I went to Petra in May. We stayed at the Rocky fof four nights. It's a budget hotel, very clean, rooms are small with old forniture.
Breakfast is good,
we paid 40 euros per night and we stayed well. It's a good budget choise.
