Location of this hotel cannot be beat! 5 mins walking to the entrance/ticket office/gate of Petra. Ample street parking for rental cars. Route is well-lit at night if you are walking to the gate for Petra by night.
When you walk into this hotel it does not look like a budget hotel, it looks clean and spacious and quite classy and it is quiet and peaceful. The clientele I saw were mostly well-dressed couples 50s and above-so a scraggly backpacker like me was an oddity! The customer service I received from all staff at the front desk and the night time House Keeping Manager Hatem was above and beyond all expectations-friendly, informative and caring. I had an awful cold the entire time I was in Jordan and all staff were sympathetic and Hatem even went to the pharmacy and bought me cold remedy medication to my room as well as water and lemon tea each evening and morning:)! Staff will arrange purchase of Petra by Night tickets be delivered to your room or the front-desk for no service fee.
The rooms are clean and comfortable with nice linens on the beds. You do need to run the hot water for several minutes to have a hot shower. Rooms are cleaned every day if you like.
The morning breakfast buffet was pretty great in my opinion and with a very nice presentation-and a pleasing bright view from the front seats of the restaurant near the windows. There are full-length draped banquet tables arranged in the middle of the restaurant in an attractive square where you can get limited hot dishes (eggs, potatoes, and sausages, and tomatoes); an omellete station where usually you have to ask the chef to stop watching tv to come and make you a nice fresh omellette with veggies and cheese added to your liking); a wide selection of cold cuts/cheeses/humous/yogurt/olives/pitas/breads/cakes/cereals and a standard tea and coffee area where the juice is more like fruit punch.
Things to Improve Upon:
Hotel Rates: I thought making a reservation over the Internet directly through the hotel would secure a good rate versus going through an Internet consolidator. However when I arrived I was quoted a different price than agreed to in the email. Eventually the price agreed to in the email was honored. However, I did find out later that most travelers paid less than me even though I expressed the fact that I was low on funds and travelling solo. It is a bit stressful when the prices keep changing depending on the guests, standard prices that are consistent and honored are appreciated by most guests.
Smoking: I think in Jordan smoking indoors is acceptable, but most tourists don't appreciate that in common rooms in a hotel like the lobby or staff smoking in the room behind reception.
Fresh Juice perhaps at the buffet?
When arriving in your room be sure to ask: how to turn on the heat or air conditioning and fan; how...
