“Average hotel close to entrance to Petra”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

We have spent there 1 night during our 2 days visit to Jordan. In general the place was quite Ok, but you shouldn't expect too much.
Our room was quite big,bed were too soft, linen was crumpled but clean. Internet was available in the lobby, they asked 1 JOD for 1 hour.
Both dinner and breakfast were edible, not big selection however.
The hotel's location is perfect: it's around 300 meters from the main entrance to the Petra park. There are also some restaurants and stores around.
I think If the price is reasonable (I booked a package tour so I don't know how much the hotel rate was) you can stay there.

Room Tip: If you don't like a heavy tobacco smell, ask for non-smoking room while checking in. Check your...

Big rooms, big beds, clean toilets, excellent situation - a perfect price/quality ratio for those seeking accommodation to visit Petra (especially in low season). We stayed in a room facing the street, we slept very well and we could have breakfast in time to go very eartly to Petra. It offers also the possibility of lunch and dinner. Also, it's very close to shops and small markets and restaurants. The staff is very kind. We could even leave our luggage there until mid-afternoon when we came back from the site.

The hotel is located 5 minutes from the main entry to Petras main attractions, the tombs. And 3 minutes walk from the Moevenpick hotel which is located almost opposite the main entry. We could therefore, after spending 5 hours in The tombs etc. walk back to the hotel, have a litle rest, something to eat and go back for the evening light show.
The hotel restaurant normally serves food at 7.30 pm, but once we explained that we needed to leave at 8 pm for the sjov, they were happy to serve us lovely Jordansk meal at 7 pm. We had an evening Meal and breakfast there, the food was traditional from there and it all tested great. Most staff spoke very litle English, but they tried very hard to understand you and meet your needs, in the day time the manager or owner was there and he spoke good English.
We had a spacious and comfortable double room with en suite, all very clean, a great shower and good bed. The hotel has two entries and the lift entry takes you down straight to the main street that goes to the ancient tombs. As We love to experience the local people and food when we travel, staying at the Silk Hotel provided us with that.
Some of the paint work on the door frame to our room was tatty and I worried about what to expect in the room, but it all nicely done and very comfortable. They do not serve alcohol there, but that was not a problem for us. After the light show we stopped at a restaurant/ tea house. Few doors from the hotel and had traditional teas and coke. The hotel can also get you tickets for the light show. There is Wifi which you pay and ge on request. There is a cash machine in the lobby of the moevepick hotel, which is open to the public. The Silk Hotel is is not a luxus hotel but a would prefer to stay there again, rather than an international hotel which could be anywhere in the world, there you get feeling that you are in Jordan, people there are extremely helpful, nice and honest.

A group of four of us wandered in off the street looking for a cheap place to stay. With December being low season, we were able to walk in with no reservations and haggle a deal. This is a nice place to stay, especially for the location to Petra (3 minutes) and for the service.

The manager (who speaks excellent english) made sure we were taken care of, and is a very fun guy to talk with. The first night, we did Petra by Night, and one of the front desk guys went and actually bought our tickets for us (at a discounted rate), so that we could eat dinner and not be late. Though we didn't spend much time in the room, it had everything I need. The bathroom was huge, just remember that they shut off the hot water at 9pm each night.

Would definitely stay there again on a return trip.

The purpose of booking this hotel was its excellent location approximately 3 minutes walk from Petra gate. This is its outstanding feature, and if you are only in wadi musa for 1-2 nights in order to spend time in Petra, then this place is fine. If you want to spend lots of time relaxing in a hotel room and using a range of hotel facilities, then you will need to pay a lot more, and stay at the movenpick next door.

As noted by other reviewers, the hotel is generally a little bit grubby and shabby. BUT, to be fair, the bed and pillows were decent, the sheets and towels were very clean (some had marks on them but had been properly laundered), there were no bed-bugs, and the shower, whilst not particularly powerful, was always hot. The free to use in-room safe was a big help too.

On the negative side, carpets could do with a good hoovering, the desk staff are a little off, locks on the room doors are feeble and the wifi - despite standing next to the router - is non-existent and absolutely not worth paying for.

The breakfast is not exactly mind-blowing (boiled eggs, hummous, flat-bread, olives), but is adequate and similar to other places in the price-range. I would avoid the restaurant for other meals.

All in all, its a perfectly functional place to stay if you are going to be out all day and you really only want somewhere to lay your head at night. There are nice restaurants nearby to eat at, and we visited the movenpick next door for a few drinks of an evening.

This was my second time in Petra. I stayed in the Movenpick the first time I went, and I was hoping to do it again, but since it was Muslim holiday season, the prices were shocking. I knew how important it was to be within walking distance of the gate to Petra - I could never understand the people that stay in those resorts where you have to be bussed to Petra - so I did a bit of research and found the Silk Road Hotel.

I can't say that we had a bad experience, but it was definitely a dive from the Movenpick. The room was passable and the people were nice. There was a somewhat seedy atmosphere throughout - e.g. the internet was JD 3 per hour if you put it on the room, but if you paid the guy at the reception cash then he gave it to you for JD 2. Was this money going to the hotel, or to his pocket? But at least that was kind of entertaining.

The down side was the food, which was terrible. The buffet advertised in the website was a complete fiction; we had half board (since I was with my children I figured it was easier) but there was no buffet in the evenings, and all we got was substandard food served in courses. The breakfast "buffet" was a disaster - basically all there was was bread and olives. I have eaten better in Gaza. All in all we survived, and the hotel was certainly cheap - but I don't know if I would recommend the place. If you do end up going here, I would certainly recommend against half board - you can eat much better outside.

We stayed there for 1 night in march (low season).
The rooms are large, the location is convenient for visiting petra, but these are basically the only good points.
On the drawbacks, the breakfast is poor, the service is poor, the room is old fashion. We looked for an other place for the other nights in Petra. We found "La Maison" hotel, for the same price (maybe thanks to low season), we had a so much better stay.

If the price of the hotels around are very high, it might be a cheap and honnest fallback.
