I have to start by saying i spend a lot of my holidays here, why? well its one of the most unspoilt islands in the caribbean, its not over developed its not crowded the people are great but if you want to a lot to do , dont bother its not for you. Carriacou has some secluded beaches that are very nice and you can go hiking accross the island if you want but the busses are frequent as well (these are actually mini busses and the drivers will try to get as many people in as they can, they may also divert to drop off granny with her shopping off at her house). to get there from Grenada you can take the Osprey which is a ferry run by the Osprey lines so whichever boats turn up they are always refered to as the osprey, they go twice a day you can also take the 8 seater plane from Maurice Bishop International Airport for a 20 minute flight and if like me you prefer to travel in a small plane and dont minfd getting knocked about a bit sometimes this may be the way to go but beware luggage space is limited. if you do go, go for carnival or the string band maroon Festival or Parang and while you are there , take a trip to Windward where you will find traditional boat building and if youre lucky you will see one of the traditional style schooners being built mostly with an adse and a hammer. I love Carriacou so i am biased so study up a bit before you go, you can chill especially if you can get hold of some "Jack Iron" rum in one of the local rum shops, take care its supposed to be the strongest rum in the world and is surrounded in folklore regarding where it comes from and how it gets there, i dont know if any of this is true but i can remember the first time i tried it about 20 years ago, we went up into the hills and paid about a fiver for a gallon! If you wantto go to a place where there is realy not much to to but being there is the thing, give it a go.
