“Thanks for a great stay Jack”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

We just loved out stay here and regretted it was only for one night. Jack is a great host and is really interested to learn more about his guests. We were greated enthusiastically when we arrived and were not disappointed in our room ( very clean ). We booked the roon with the twin beds and were happy as they were really pretty comfortable. The view from the room is breathtaking the propery is not in the tourist area and you are surrounded by Volcanic mountains and the lake. Jack organised our treck to Mt Batur and spent time explaing this to us which was great as we didnt have to negotiate and based on the cpmplaints of other treckers we met at the top we felt Jack had looked after us. We visited the Hot springs which are only a five minute drive and this was a lovely way to spend the afternoon. Jack cooked us delish fish for dinner and also great pancakes when we returned from the treck. We alos discovered the joy of ginger tea and wer not able to find a brew like jacks anywhere else. Thanks Jack and we hope to visit you agian next year. Jack organised our transport to and from via his nephew Nyoman and I also recommend this as it is not located in the main tourist area. We were very happy with the drivers.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms one with a queen bed and one with twin beds.

The WiFi is not as described.  When you want to use WiFi, another guest sets up her laptop as a base station tethered to her phone.  This will last for a couple hours until her computer sleeps or something else breaks the connection.  Most of the time I did not have WiFi when I needed it.

The ambiance was fantastic.  It is surrounded by farms with great views of the lake and mountains.  The owner drove me on his motorbike a ways around the lake so I could have a nice walk back.

We arranged for their driver to pick us up in Seminyak. We took our time on the drive, stopped in Ubud, saw some beautiful rice fields, and small towns. The driver spoke pretty good English and was knowledgable. The total time driving on the road was probably around 2 hours.

The hotel consists of 2 buildings. One is the kitchen and outside dining area. The other is the building with the rooms - 2 units. Each unit has a bedroom and bathroom. The room is simple and spartan yet comfortable and clean. There was a large bed, some colorful sitting pillows, lockable night stands, a full bathroom (with hot and cold water), and an amazing porch overlooking the lake and village of Songan. There was also a gazebo in the garden area to sit and relax. The yard and garden area was beautiful. The scenery was breathtaking. It's clear that the owner takes great care in the quality of the gardens.

Made (Jack), the owner, was our host and was very kind. He welcomed us warmly, gave us a tour and introduced us to the scenery. He welcomed us with hot coffee (you can also choose tea). We arrived at 4pm and he asked if we would like to place dinner orders and if so, when we would like to eat. We thought it was very thoughtful. We asked him for a recommendation and he suggested we try the local fish from the lake (we don't remember what it was called on the menu). It was outstanding. The fish was well prepared and delicious and came with rice/potatoes and vegetables. When we sat down for dinner, Made lit a candle and put in a tape of traditional, local music which was a great addition and really made the experience complete.

Made arranged for our hike up the mounatin with a local, licensed tour guide, Mungoo. He made it very easy. We booked everything through him and Mungoo picked us up at 3:45 am. We were able to walk directly from the hotel to the paths which took us to the top of Ganung Batur. It was a great treat to be able to start at our hotel by just walking out our front door. We highly recommend going to the top at sunrise with Mungoo as the experience was great. Mungoo was a great guide. He was incredibly knowledgable - he knew everything about the mountain, the traditions, local stories, etc. We enjoyed our conversation with him as we hiked down the mountain.

Take plenty of bug spray/repellent. There were a lot of flies in the area. They didn't bite but were a little annoying. It would be great if the room had a mosquito net in case any of the flies or bugs got in to the room.

Room Tip: Only 2 rooms. Both are very good (and the same).

We booked a room in combinatian with a sunrise vulcano trip. The best thing we could do!!! We paid 300000 IDR p.p. The guide was the neighbour from the Mapa Lake view Bungalow. He was really great and funny. He takes his time so we can see more from the vulcano and the surroundings (it was cloudy, we have to wait longer for the view of the Mount Agung). If you plan this trip be sure you have a fleece and maybe also a jacket, because it is very windy on the top.

The room was very clean and cool. If you want to eat somtehing, ask for the fish!!!

Give the owner your arriveltime, because he wasn't there when we arrived ;-) The other guest gives us thee and coffee...

We only spent 1 night here as we were on our way to Gili, Made is an amazing host, he went out if his way to help us, he cooked all of our meals which were great, his pancakes for breakfast are awesome, he took us to the hot springs and also drove us to Amed and spoke with a local office there to get our tickets to Gili Air, such good value for money I will be recommending, note it is a little way out from everything but so worth it !

My wife and I recently stayed at Mapa Lake View Bungalow ahead of our morning trek to the top of Mount Batur. Although we were only there for one night, we had a great stay and "Jack" was an amazing host. Upon arrival Jack greeted us with a warm smile and made sure we immediately felt at home. The rooms were big, clean, and quiet with an great view of the lake. Jack is also an amazing cook and was happy to make our meals at a moments notice. When we arrived back from our morning trek, Jack had peaceful Java music playing and offered to take us on his motor bike to the local hot spring pools free of charge. He even spoke with the hot spring ticket counter for us to make sure we could pay by credit card. I'm telling you, Jack is the man and goes out of his way to make sure you have a comfortable stay. If you plan to stay around the lake, Mapa Lake View Bungalow is a must.

Found this place by accident just riding around Batur. Nice and secluded place. Very beautiful territory and beautiful views around. Located on a small hill between the villages Toya Bungkah and Songan. The bright and spacious room with views of the lake and the caldera.

Price is certainly not so cheap, but around Batur all accommodation prices are quite high. In Mapa correlation price - quality of the room is very good. Very hospitable owner, he does not impose trekking on Batur as done in other places or just on the street.

By the way they have a page on Facebook are, where you can find information how to get to this place (with GPS coordinates and map), and where they began to gather useful information about Batur and the area around and photos.

Of the proven accommodation options in the area near Batur volcano, I think it's the best in terms of price and quality. Recommend. Just don't forget warm clothes, in the evening on the street a little cold.
