“Fonte Al Canale”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

Our trip to Tuscany included an 8 day stay at Fonte Al Canale, one of the 2 properties run by Floyd Sully. The location in old Tuscany is incredible. The villa is a working farm, however during March only spring preparations are underway. Fonte Al Canale is a second storey apartment with a fully equipped kitchen. Numerous bedrooms make for a variety of guest opportunities. The stone building has been renovated with modern amenities, however it retains its feeling of an old Tuscan farmhouse with the stone floor, fireplace and walls. The area is quiet and peaceful providing a restful and tranquil stay. Fonte Al Canale is well situated for exploring Tuscany whether it be hiking in the National Park behind the villa or day trips by car. Our day trips consisted of travel to many small villages and towns in the area, some lasting for full day excursions and others providing a 1/2 day sojourn. Exploring this part of Tuscany provides insight into the history of Italy - the Etruscan settlements, the Renaissance era - nothing much has changed. The villages perched upon the hilltops are obscure from a distance, historically providing the much needed camouflage from intruders. The stone and brick buildings surround the village centre of the Castle and Duomo. Lifestyles are quiet and subdued. Weekly 'markets' are experienced in the villages where produce and goods are delivered by mobile 'stores' once a week. The spring colours are amazing with the deep greens of the newly sprouting fields and the yellow hues of the first buds appearing on the trees. Fonte Al Canale, perched upon a hilltop itself, provides some stunning views of the Tuscan countryside below and amazing sunset experiences. We would definitely return!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

We had the pleasure of visitng both Canto Del Vento and Fonte Al Canale in September, 2011. Our host, Floyd Sully, was most welcoming and generous. We spent about 10 days at Canto Del Vento, enjoying both the lovingly restored and furnished villa as well as exploring nearby towns in the region. The pool was enjoyed during the afternoons under the very warm sun. We shopped for local produce and products and cooked many meals together which were always leisurely shared outside, admiring the beautiful scenery and especially the sunsets. Figs were picked from nearby Fonte Al Canale and many jars of jam were made together. Our 'field trips' took us to interesting Italian shops and eateries in nearby towns and villages. Following a week long train trip throughout Italy, we returned to stay at Fonte Al Canale for about 5 days. The gardens here are lush and beautiful. We picked lavender from the prolific supply and bundled them up. With family and guests we enjoyed visits to new towns and shared cooking and feasting together. Both homes have lovely bedrooms, linens, art work and spacious bathrooms. The fond memories have been preserved in scrapbooks and videos to treasure in the future. Jim and Jill

Room Tip: All of the rooms are well appointed and offer interesting views in a very peaceful and beautiful set...

I spent a week at Podere Siena in May 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and serenity offered. The rooms are spacious, beds comfortable and everything is spotless. The nearby villages and the countryside offered lots to see and explore. I'm already planning a return next year.
