“Just loved it... what a treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

We had the most wonderful meal here last weekend. A very warm welcome and a wonderfully attentive service by Jeremy throughout the evening. Nice atmosphere and decor. Cedrik works wonders in the kitchen, lots of taste, excellent cuisine de campagne in subtle variations. Very good wine list. We will certainly be back in the summer at the latest to try out the terrace at the back!

“A fantastic new addition to this area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

I have now had dinner at L'Estaminet three or four times and have been absolutely impressed each time. From the extremely friendly welcome, to the charming décor, to the choices on the menu, to the perfectly executed food, and to the extensive and reasonably priced wine cellar (with the added bonus of lots of non-Burgundy selections for those of living in Burgundy who get tired of the same offering in most other restaurants around here) and at the end of the evening, a bill that always surprises on the low side... What's not to love? I definitely plan on becoming a regular here. The only negative thing I have to say is that you often have to book a couple of weeks in advance, although from time to time, they do have tables available at the last minute. My new favourite in the Clunysois.

“Great food, warm atmosphere, great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

A small restaurant and always busy (so reservations are usually needed). These guys have a lot of taste and do incredible menus - not expensive at all. Good selection of Languedoc wines available. There are a couple of rooms for let (chambre d'hote). There is also a little bar so a nice place to entertain friends. Every meal I have had there has been wonderful.

“Shhhhhh.... Don't tell anybody how great this place is!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

I am rarely impressed about a place so when it happened I am absolutely speechless!

I won't even try to make one comment because it is so worth to come here with a fresh mind to experience it yourself!

For the gentlemen owners: please do Masterclasses in the South of France where it is needed!
I am coming back next year to check you out again! :))

“Tasteful, Welcoming, Good Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

That a couple of guys from Provence have managed to put together a restaurant experience in a Charollais village as great as this ... is pretty amazing. Mazille (where L'Estaminet is located) is not on anybody's map -- except, perhaps, of medievalists like myself who remember that the Abbey of Cluny once had an important priory here, buildings of which are still worth seeing. But a great restaurant? This is the first, I think, in the history of Mazille.

The decoration is stylishly unpretentious. What the dickens do I mean by this? When you walk into the room (it's just one room, and a bar) you sense that the guys have really thought about making their space esthetically appealing, and it is. But it's not over the top, and appropriate for a country place. You feel warm and comfortable, and that sets the mood for the food.

The chef Cedrick is Belgian and he clearly comes to the craft of cooking with lots of training, experience, and very good skill and taste. His menus draw from the local ingredients brilliantly (there is an excellent "ferme" nearby which provides first rate pork, veal, etc.etc.) and he's chosen a wine list from local producers that is thoughtful and first rate. I've eaten here about five times, both at lunch and dinner, and every meal has been really delicious and satisfying. The last dinner included one of the best bowls of beef consommé I've ever had (and I make it myself) -- later we learned from Cedrick that this was his mother's family recipe! Main was fish, colin, with a superb sauce and exquisitely done rice. Tarte tatin for dessert. This is the general flavor of Cedrick's cooking. Imaginative, careful, appealing ... satisfying.

The guy who runs the dining room -- Jeremy -- is a really charming host who can handle a crowd of thirty people without once losing grace or calm, or smiles from his face. He and Cedrick make a great team, and they really make their guests feel welcome and comfortable.

So overall this is a great addition to dining possibilities in the "greater Cluny area" (if you can imagine that!). In fact, I think L'Estaminet is more interesting that counterparts in Cluny itself, though on a good day, Serge at Potin Gourmand is formidable competition.
