“Very fun in the cool weather.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2012

We spent a lovely day looking for diamonds. The weather was in the high 50's. I will say I can't imagine how hot it gets in the summer. It is an open field.

“No luck but fun for the kids...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

We didn't have any luck finding any diamonds, which was a little disappointing but other than that, it was fun. The kids had a blast running around the field and digging in the dirt to their heart's content. Just make sure the family does not wear good clothes because you can't really do this without getting some dirt on you. It was a neat experience.

“Fun for about two hours then very tedious”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2012

Digging for diamonds in December is not the best idea very thought of for a family vacation but we did avoid any crowding. However, we were not alone and there were many families and locals out looking for diamonds after days of rain. From a teaching experience on geology, many of us found it fascinating. The first two hours of digging and swishing were exciting but soon cold hands and aching feet made it quite a chore. The mud was everywhere but that was to be expected.

The park rangers, and in particular, the park geologist were extremely nice and provided excellent tips. There is no food there during the off season so bring in what you want or hose off the boots and get lunch in town. With admission price, you can come and go as needed.

Rentals are available for tools. Stick to the basics as you won't be good enough to use the more advanced equipment. A few shovels, buckets, and straining boxes were all our group of six needed. The rental is affordable but they do charge a hefty fee if you don't return everything.

Dont' know if we will ever do it again but it was definately an interesting side excursion.

“Wonderful weekend at the Crater of Diamonds State park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2011

We love to travel to unusual and exotic places around the world. One such place is the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Southwestern Arkansas. It is set in a beautiful location and is only five hours from our home near Dallas, Texas. We've made the trip three times in the past two years, looking for diamonds or other precious stones.

The diamond prospecting is an adventure where you will get lots of fresh air and sunshine even if you don't have the good fortune to find an Arkansas Diamond. We've found several semi-precious stones and expect to find a diamond as we improve our "minimg" skills and knowledge. It is great way to spend a long and relaxing weekend.

We can recommend the Queen of Diamonds in Murfreesboro for a clean and comfortable room, great breakfast, and super friendly service. We've also towed our 27 foot travel trailer on two occassions. The Crater of Diamonds State Park offers modern camping facilities for every size camper and RV enthusiast, at very reasonable prices. Be sure to book as far in advance and possible or at least check the Park's website. We can recommend either way to travel depending on your preferences.

“Adventure with the thrill of possibilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2011

This attraction is full of possibilities that you may leave richer than you came. It is 37 acres of tilled earth in which you can dig and search and sluice for treasure! This is where the most flawless diamond in the world was found. It is set up very well and there is everything you need available there for rental. there are gemologists to help you identify what you find. There are many sluicing tables and the entire exepierence is fun for all. Only open during daylight business hours so do plan to go early. There is a gift shop as well and the small town of Murfreesboro has a few hotels that include the gear you need to hunt for diamonds in the room rate. Very nice way to spend a day.
