As you come onto the resort property, you are led to the reception area by lighted trees on both sides of the drive. Once at the reception area, you walk along a raised covered walkway looking down on a tiki torch lit court yard with a wading pool for the kids and umbrella covered benches for the adults.
As you walk into the lobby/restaurant, you are greated by "Welcome to Mountain Harbor. My we help you?" There was no waiting and no wondering when we would be helped. The receptionists had our reservation and keys ready. The whole check in took about 3 minutes including going over a property map that was well explained. We opted to have dinner before going to our cottage. A server was at our table even before we had a chance to sit down. We spent as much time looking out at the lake and beautiful dusk sky line as we did at the menu.
We ordered the ribeye steaks with baked potatoes and a garden salad. The salad was as fresh as I have ever had and the tea was great also. Our steaks were perfect and very tender. They melted in our mouths. The huge baked potatoes were perfect as well. We took 1/2 of our meals to our room with us. There was just too much. Our bill for 2 people including tax was $48.89. Very resonable for ribeye dinners.
As we drove to our log sided cottage, we saw red foxes, deer, racoons, and rabbits. Pulling up to our cottage we thought a possible mistake was made. This cottage seemed much too large. We entered the cottage and our mouths dropped open. The cottage was decorated with antiques, and they were blended with modern appliances wonderfully. The bedrooms were huge, the bathrooms were huge and the back deck was huge with a beautiful hot tub. We were sure there was a mistake for what we paid, so we called. The receptionist answered cheerfully and we stated our concern. She checked and said "There is no mistake, is there a problem with your cottage?" We told her that it was much more then we expected.
As the day light came, we went out to the deck to have our coffee and our mouths dropped again. The view that had was nature at it's best. We could see an estimated 5 miles out across Lake Ouachita, and it was mirror smooth. We were extremely pleased. As we sat there with our coffee, we watched two bald eagles feeding over the lake. We decided to do nothing but sit on the deck for our first day. We spent our entire vacation at Mountain Harbor and we plan to spend all of our upcoming vacations there also. We even reserved the same cottage for the same time next year when we checked out. Check out was quick and easy. If you ever have a chance, visit Mountain Harbor Resort and Spa in the fall. You will fall in love again with your mate and nature.
