“Absolutely wonderful.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

The property has a very charming wood interior, great staff, and fantastic views of the water and surrounding countryside. If you don't mind large hills, the hostel is well located to the town square and the surrounding shops and restaurants. I would highly recommend this location for couples.

stayed here for one night whilst visiting Castro. loved the setting and was thrilled to have stayed in something seen as a national monument. the furniture was fantastic and added to the spirit of the place. a little bit out of centro but the walk was great and relatively quick. would recommend as the location was also adjacent to one of castro´s best restaurants (1 door away) and also to one of the best cafes (2 doors away)

Warm, clean, decent rooms, and located in a picturesque area. However staff were not particularly friendly, breakfast was fairly average, there was quite a lot of noise from the road at night and it is a bit of a walk into town. Moved to a different place in town after one night.

The hotel is new (although not as new as the Palafito Cucao hostel), and although it is not as charming as the Palafito Cucao, it is nice enough, and the fact that it is an actual palafito is nice.

We stayed in one of the two rooms which face the river (the one with the queen bed, the other features three beds if I am not mistaken), and it was very nice, although a bit noisy in the evening, because of the Mar y Canela restaurant nearby.

Breakfast (included) is exactly the same as in Palafito Cucao, featuring fruit, eggs, yoghurt, milk, juice, etc., and the same amazing home-made bread, and the tasty home-made jams. Apart from the restaurant nearby there are a couple of cafes in the same street, and Castro city center is not far away, where there are many eating options and supermarkets (look for the big Unimarc, which is apparently the cheapest).

Service was good but not as good as in Palafito Cucao (which was really good). As in Palafito Cucao activities are organized through the sister company Palafito Trip. We had intended to rent a car and drive around, but the local car rental company is really small (this may change now that the island has commercial flights) and it had no cars available, so we took up the Chiloe Patrimonial Churches tour, which turned out to be very nice. I am not a big fan of group tours, but the guide was super nice, and he did not push us around, instead giving plenty of time (as much as one wanted) to see things, so the experience was enjoyable, and although we had less freedom of movement we got to visit a couple of places which we would probably have missed on our own, like a tasty oyster shop in Quinchao Island.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the two rooms facing the river (one has a queen bed, the other three beds, if I am no...

What a fun experience to stay in a palafito and see the tide come and go. It was a great central location to explore the island and the staff are very helpful and will help book excursions on the island.

I really loved my stay here at Palafito Hostel. I arrived on a friend's recommendation, thinking I would just spend a night, and ended up staying three because it was such a cozy base for exploring the island. The hostel was clean, warm, and beautifully decorated. Even though Castro itself isn't much to look at, the location of the hostel is perfect: having breakfast while watching birds fly over the channel is hard to beat! I was skeptical about the hike down the hill from the bus station, but it was well worth it.

The staff was also friendly and gave great travel recommendations (if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have discovered Cucao). And, just to repeat what other travelers have said time and again, the breakfast was amazing. The toasted grain bread with home-made jam pretty much made my day, every day.

Thank you Palafito for a wonderful stay!

This place was beautiful and very clean. The breakfast was nice and included a variety of things (fruit, yoghurt, porridge, juice, very nice bread, eggs, marmalade...). The shower was the best I've experienced during the 2 months I've been travelling South America! The only faults I would say about this hostel is although the location was very scenic it was a tough "hike" up a big hill to the centre (and bus station). If you are travelling with a low budget it is quite pricey but deffinately worth it!
